  • Patent number: 8651813
Abstract: A fluid dynamic body provides one or more fixed size escapelets through a foil body to reduce the induced and interference drag caused by trailing vortices and similar wake turbulence. The escapelets, which can be provided in both aerodynamic and hydrodynamic structures, such as wings, tail sections; rotary blades, guy wire frames, wing sails, and various underwater keels and wing keels. The escapelets transfer energy from an inlet located in the high-pressure surface of the foil or foil body to an outlet located in the lower-pressure surface, allowing energy that would normally form a vortex at the tip of the foil to be redirected and dissipated in a beneficial way. As a result, drag is reduced and fuel economy is increased. For example, in aircraft, escapelets can increase the authority of ailerons and similar flight control surfaces, allowing aircraft that were not previously spin recovery rated to become spin recoverable.

  • Patent number: 8651815
Abstract: A ram air turbine (RAT) includes a movable turbine support structure that is prevented from moving to a stowed position by a stow abort mechanism when turbine blades are not locked in a desired position. The stow abort mechanism includes a pawl that is driven by a cam on a release lever. The release lever is movable in response to a position of a release pin that prevents rotation of a turbine drive shaft from a desired orientation that locks the turbine blades in a desired position required for stowage. Disengagement of the release pin causes the stow abort mechanism to maintain a position where the pawl blocks movement to the deployed position. Engagement of the release pin to prevent rotation results in movement of the pawl to a position that provides for movement to the stowed position.

  • Patent number: 8651828
Abstract: A combined debris catcher and pressure relief valve positionable between first and second ports of an inlet arrangement that is upstream of the main body of a vacuum pump. The debris catcher includes an open ended tube that is spring biased upwardly and in normal operation forms a seal with the inlet arrangement. In the raised or sealed position, incoming fluid from the system to be evacuated travels along a closed flow path through the first port of the inlet arrangement, through the debris catcher, and out through the second port of the inlet arrangement into the main body of the vacuum pump. If the inlet arrangement is hooked up initially or at any time to a system that is above atmospheric pressure, the above atmospheric pressure will overcome the upward force of the spring on the tube and cause the tube to move to an open position spaced from the inlet arrangement harmlessly venting the high pressure fluid to ambient air and avoiding potential damage or contamination to the pump.

Abstract: An electrical submersible pumping (ESP) system for use in a wellbore having a pressure equalization system that employs modules with a bellows. The bellows axially expands and contracts in response to pressure fluctuations encountered in the wellbore. The modules are attachable in series on a lower end of a motor of the ESP to form the string, where the string can range from a single module to a multiplicity of modules, depending on the application. The bellows has a conduit axially inserted through the bellows that includes an umbilical and has an end in pressure communication with the motor.

  • Patent number: 8651839
Abstract: A multi-stage oil-free screw compressor includes: a suction throttle valve for controlling air intake into the compressor; a piston assembly for operating the suction throttle valve; and a structure for supplying a working pressure to the piston assembly. In order to reduce startup load at the time of startup of the compressor, the suction throttle valve is fully closed while a secondary side of a compressor body is opened to the atmosphere. When a negative pressure and the air pressure, that provide the working pressure, are used for slightly opening the suction throttle valve in order to switch the compressor to a loaded mode after a motor for driving the compressor is accelerated to its top speed, the air pressure is provided by a control pipe line that is defined by the same pipe line that forms a drain pipe line. This permits the control pipe line to be opened to the atmosphere as needed during the startup time. Thus is provided the oil-free screw compressor achieving improved startup reliability.

Abstract: An example plunger pump for fabricating soft capsules includes switch and plunger bodies that form an accommodation space, the switch body has liquid suction and injection holes both communicative with the accommodation space, the plunger body has a channel for accommodating a plunger rod, and a rotary switch closely press-fit to the switch body to form a hermetic surface. The plunger rod linearly reciprocates in the channel so that the accommodation space periodically reaches maximum and minimum values of capacity. The structure of a rotary switch switches between opening and closing states of the liquid suction and injection holes, whereby it is substantially free of leakage of medical solution and there is no mixing and dissolving with lubricating oil during normal operation of the plunger pump, to thereby enhance the precision in the loading amount and eliminate the problem of contamination of the medical solution by the lubricating oil.

Abstract: The invention relates to a hybrid pump for delivering a liquid pump medium, comprising a rotor consisting of substantially non-elastic plastic, which is situated in the pump chamber and can rotate about a rotor axis. Said rotor has a base plate associated with the lower lateral surface of the pump chamber and several rotor parts that are spaced substantially at a uniform distance around the periphery, extend towards the opposite lateral surface of the pump chamber and are permanently connected to the base plate. A preferably curved rotor blade is pivotally hinged on the outer end of each rotor part, forming pump chambers of the rotor between neighboring rotor parts and rotor blades, said chambers being open towards the upper lateral surface of the pump chamber and the bases of said chambers being formed by the base plate of the rotor. The pump is characterized in that the bases of the pump chambers follow a concave arc, rising from the outer edge of the base plate inward towards the rotor axis.
