Patent number: 8677686Abstract: High-production, minimal-discharge aquaponic systems and methods. The aquaponic systems separate waste water generated from fish tanks into two flow streams. In the first flow stream, suspended-waste water generated from the waste water is converted to nutrient-rich water and used for hydroponic plant growth. Nutrient-depleted water resulting from the hydroponic plant growth is fed back into fish tanks to continue the cycle. In the second flow stream, settleable solids generated from the waste water is converted to nutrient-rich sludge and used for solid or semi-solid substrate-based plant growth. Excess nutrient-rich water derived from the second flow stream is fed back into the first flow stream, thereby conserving water and nutrients within the system.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2012Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: Nelson and Pade, Inc.Inventors: Rebecca L. Patent number: 8677722Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a high burst slider zipper which allows for bottom filling of reclosable packages, such as large bags, and further provides increased resistance to damage from the dropping or shock loading of the filled package. This is achieved by providing a peel seal or other frangible or separable connection between the zipper profiles, and by sealing a portion of one of the flanges to itself by a hard seal above the peel seal. This causes the external forces on a bag from bottom filling or shock loading to be directed toward the hard seal and further directed so as to cause a shear force against the peel seal, thereby increasing the resistance of the package to external forces.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2007Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: David J. One locking device includes first and second legs operatively coupled together to form a perimeter substantially uninterrupted from a proximal end of the first leg to a proximal end of the second leg. The proximal ends are separated by an opening, and each proximal end respectively defines a passage. A keyway extends from the first leg passage, and first and second shoulders are adjacent the keyway. A receiving area extends from the second leg passage. A locking pin passes through the second leg passage and is movable between an open position, a closed position, and an intermediate position. The locking pin has a key and a stop that prevent the locking pin from passing entirely through the second leg passage. A biasing member biases the locking pin in various ways.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2012Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Inventor: Terry K. Robins

Patent number: 8677728Abstract: A gas turbine engine (10) comprises a diffuser (14) and a nozzle (16) affixed to an annular housing (12), a bearing assembly including first and second bearings (24,26) mounted on a support tube (28) affixed at one end (28a) in cantilever fashion to a radially inner portion (16c) of the nozzle, a compressor (18) and a turbine (20) affixed to axially spaced apart ends of a shaft (22) rotatably mounted in the bearings, and an annular combustor (32) disposed between the compressor and turbine and concentric to the shaft. The diffuser is adjustably attached to the housing external threads (14e) on an outer annular surface of the diffuser and received in internal threads (12e) in an internal annular surface of the housing. An electric generator (42) is disposed radially inward of the annular combustor axially between the diffuser and nozzle. A fuel slinger (30), affixed to the shaft, receives fuel from an air/fuel annulus (88) defined by a stator (44) and a rotor (46) of the generator.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2004Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: Technical Directions, IncInventors: Joseph J. Patent number: 8677729Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention takes the form of a system that uses exhaust from the combustion turbine engine to heat the fuel gas consumed by a combustion turbine engine. The benefits of the present invention include reducing the need to use a parasitic load to heat the fuel gas.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2011Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Timothy Russell Bilton, David Wesley Ball, Jr., Brian Michael Gallagher, Korey Frederic Rendo, Gary Cletus Mobley, Jr.

Patent number: 8677730Abstract: Low-temperature, continuous “cold” combustion, constant pressure, active chamber motor-compressor unit operating with working compressed air and using a piston travel control device as well as an active chamber, with a cold chamber (29) able to reduce to very low temperatures the atmospheric air that supplies the input (28) of an air compression device (28,25,26,33), which then forces this working compressed air, still at low temperature, in an external combustion chamber (19) fitted with a heating device (19A) at constant pressure where it increases in volume, before its quasi-isothermal transfer in the active chamber (13) producing work, before being expanded in an engine cylinder (2) to produce work again.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2006Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: MDI Motor Development International S.A.Inventors: Guy Negre, Cyril Negre

Patent number: 8677731Abstract: A hybrid combustor combines two distinct fuel injection sources to spray fuel in the combustor. The combustor combines a rotary fuel slinger for spraying fuel in a first combustion zone during high power level and cruise conditions and a set of fuel nozzles for spraying fuel in a second combustion zone during lower power level and starting conditions.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2013Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.Inventors: Bhawan B. Patent number: 8677732Abstract: The invention relates to a thrust reverser (1) comprising an opening with fixed grids (4) that is closed by a sliding lid (2) in case of direct thrust, and opened by the downstream longitudinal translation displacement of the lid (2) in case of thrust reversal. A flap (20) is pivotally mounted at one upstream end on the lid (2) and can move between a retracted position and an expanded position in which, in case of thrust reversal, it blocks an annular channel (10) in order to redirect a gas flow towards the grid opening (4). A slider (24) for driving the flap (20) is mounted so as to be capable of displacement in at least one translation guiding rail (33) provided in the structure of the lid (2), and is connected to a downstream end of the flap (20) through a driving connecting rod (30) so that a translation movement of the slider (24) in the guiding rail (33) results in a pivoting of the connecting rod (30) and of the flap (20).Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2007Date of Patent: March 25, 2014Assignee: AircelleInventors: Guy Bernard Vauchel, Pierre Andre Marcel Baudu
