Abstract: A distinct female cultivar of Salix viminalis×(Salix sachalinensis×Salix miyabeana) named ‘Preble’, characterized by rapid stem growth producing 29% more woody biomass than the average of three current production cultivars (Salix×dasyclados ‘SV1’ (unpatented), Salix sachalinensis ‘SX61’ (unpatented), and Salix miyabeana ‘SX64’ (unpatented)) when grown in the same field for the same length of time (three growing seasons after coppice) in two different trials in Constableville, N.Y. and Middlebury, Vt. ‘Preble’ can be planted from dormant stem cuttings, produces multiple stems after coppice and the stem biomass can be harvested when the plant is dormant. In the spring following harvest, the plant will re-sprout very vigorously, producing new stems that can be harvested repeatedly after two to four years of growth. ‘Preble’ displays a low incidence of rust disease and is not damaged by potato leafhoppers.

Abstract: A submersible robot for operating a tool relative to a surface of an underwater structure has a tool holder movably mounted on a support assembly provided with a driving arrangement for movably holding the tool in operative position relative to the surface. Position and orientation of the support assembly relative to the surface is locked and adjusted by locking and leveling arrangements. A programmable control unit operates the driving, locking and leveling arrangements and the tool and receives measurements from a sensor unit. The control unit has an operation mode wherein a positioning of the robot is determined and controlled as function of an initial position for defining a first work area, and shifted positions of the robot for defining additional work areas, the work areas having overlapping portions with one another for tracking displacements of the robot relative to the surface of the structure using the sensor unit.

Abstract: A composition for enhancing the dewatering of a paper sheet on a paper machine and a method for using the composition is disclosed. The composition comprising one or more aldehyde-functionalized polymers comprising amino or amido groups wherein at least about 15 mole percent of the amino or amido groups are functionalized by reacting with one or more aldehydes and wherein the aldehyde functionalized polymers have a molecular weight of at least about 100,000. The method comprising adding the composition to the paper machine at a dosage of about 0.05 lb/ton to about 15 lb/ton, based on dry fiber.

The truck has a first and a second tractor protection valve, each configured to be located on the tractor at a location remote from the other. Each tractor protection valve location is proximate a typical position at which a mating connection on a trailer will be located when hitched to the tractor. The truck also has a selector which is operator-transitionable between a first configuration in which the first tractor protection valve is activated to supply pressured air to an interconnected trailer and a second configuration in which the second tractor protection valve is activated to supply pressured air to a different interconnected trailer.

At least one of the conveying operations performed a number of times is performed based on a distance from the position of the trailing end of the sheet to the position of the conveying roller.

A mutual interference between the sound generated from the front side of the sound emission part and the sound emitted from the rear side thereof can be reduced to thereby improve the performance of the middle and low sound.

Abstract: Fluid flow properties often dictate the performance of processing operations. The present invention relates to a system for evaluating properties of a fluid flowing in a pipe. A test cell (20) which includes two parallel surfaces (5, 6) which are positioned in the flow. One of the surfaces is moveable relative to the other, to a position in close proximity to the other, to create a stagnant flow region between the surfaces. The system further includes a test input device (10) to apply input motion to one of the surfaces, and a test output device (13) to measure output motions from the cell in response to input motions. Furthermore, the system includes a processing device (9) to calculate rheological parameters of the fluid from signals produced from the test input and test output device. There is also a process for evaluating properties of a flowing fluid.

Abstract: A visor assembly for an aviation helmet includes a lens, lens/strap anti-tear interface assemblies, retainer plates, and attachment strap assemblies. A friction strip mounted on the brim of the helmet operates to increase the friction between the visor lens and the helmet. The combined function of the friction strip and the configuration of the strap assemblies operate to maintain the visor in a deployed (as-worn) positioned in front of the wearer's face, even during high speed wind blasts of up to 600 KEAS (Knots Equivalent Air Speed).

Abstract: There is provided a helmet including a shield having inner coupling holes at both ends thereof and fitted and coupled to an assembly coupling hole of a shield coupling assembly provided at a helmet main body and a front opening configured to be opened and closed by the shield. The helmet includes: a lock supporting member fixed to the helmet main body; and a locker including a shield mounting portion fixed to the shield, a coupling shaft coupled to be rotated with the shield mounting portion at an end of the locker, and a locker hooking part coupled to or decoupled from the lock supporting member at the other end of the locker.

Abstract: A sweatband for use on the hand and wrist is provided. The sweatband provides a surface on the back of a user's hand which may be utilized by a person to wipe sweat or perspiration. Thus, the back of the hand (opisthenar or dorsal surface of the hand) is used when wiping perspiration. The sweatband is constructed such that a first band portion wraps around a user's wrist and a second band portion wraps around the palm and back portion of a user's hand. In one embodiment the sweatband may be constructed of an elongated piece of material that is looped to form the first and second band portions. In one embodiment, a sweatband is interchangeable for use with the left or right hand. In one embodiment the sweatband is reversible.

Abstract: Protective chaps to provide protection against chainsaw cuts and, optionally, poisonous snake bites has a woven cloth-like shell lined by a layer of polyester/aramid fiber and, optionally, a partial layer of a woven material, all enclosed by an inside thin polyester fabric. The combination of zippers and hook-and-loop fasteners provides a dual fastener system that protects against freeze up and clogging of exposed zippers and may include alternate connections to provide two different tubular leg sizes.

The leading edge of the panel includes texture designed to enhance the laminar boundary layer, while the adjacent portion of the panel includes texture intended to trip the boundary layer to turbulent flow. The drag-reducing panel may be the cuff of a sock, a sleeve, wristband, a headband, or the like.

Abstract: The present invention provides a toilet using a cyclone-type sewage purifier, which can discharge excrement using a small amount of water and can sanitarily treat the discharged excrement using waste water, thus increasing the efficiency with which the waste water is recycled. The toilet includes a toilet bowl having a depression; a refuse pipe passing through the toilet bowl and connected to the depression, thus guiding the discharge of excrement from the depression; a refuse bowl seated in the depression and temporarily holding the excrement, and discharging the excrement into the refuse pipe when it is rotated; a rotating device for rotating the refuse bowl; and a cyclone-type sewage purifier for executing purification treatment using a vortex generated by descent of the excrement and waste water discharged from the refuse pipe and a waste water pipe.

Abstract: Adjustable shower curtain rod designs for providing a shower curtain rod that allows the wet, inner-stall facing side of a shower curtain to be quickly and easily rotated up to 360 degrees. This rotation allows the wet, inner-stall facing side of the shower curtain to be positioned so that it faces out into the room rather than facing the shower stall. This facilitates faster and easier drying of the wet, inner-stall facing side of the shower curtain due to improved airflow and the lower humidity of the room. These features facilitate ease of cleaning and/or inspecting of the shower curtain, while also reducing the opportunity for mold, mildew and bacteria to grow on the curtain as the shower curtain has an improved drying time.

Abstract: An in-bed patient-positioning and manipulation system for moving patients within their bed. The in-bed patient-positioning and manipulation system comprises: a conveyor sheet; at least one housing unit having, a roller located therein comprising a shaft; at least one gearing cluster; a power source; and a remote. The conveyor sheet is connected to the roller(s) with the roller(s) being housed within inner volume(s) of the housing unit. The two housing units are mounted under each end of a hospital (or other) bed. There is one long sheet, which is rolled and sequentially stored in the housing units and along the upper surface of the bed. The sheet will retract back once the control on the included remote is pressed. Further, the conveyor sheet is able to be rolled and unrolled to manipulate a relative position of a patient residing in the bed.

Abstract: A baby crib includes a support frame having a lower portion and an upper portion, and a bassinet connected with the upper portion of the support frame. The bassinet includes an enclosure substantially surrounding an inner space of the bassinet adapted to receive a baby, the enclosure being upwardly opened and having a sidewall provided with a side opening communicating with the inner space, and a movable board disposed at a bottom of the bassinet and adapted to support the weight of the baby placed thereon. The board is operable to slide through the side opening between a first position where the board and the baby placed thereon lie inside the inner space, and a second position where the board extends outward through the side opening so that the board and the baby placed thereon lie substantially outside the inner space.

Abstract: A crib is provided that includes a drop gate that pivots relative to a stationary portion of a wall from an open position to a closed position. The crib may include a hinge that in the closed position of the drop gate forms a cavity therein that has a height that is sufficiently large to enable a finger of a child to extend into the cavity to be adjacent a pivot axis of the hinge, without being pinched by the hinge. Also, the crib may include a stop surface of a latch device that contacts a projection in a cavity of a striker plate to prevent pivoting of the drop gate into an interior space of the crib. The cavity in the striker plate may include sufficiently large spaces above and below the projection to receive a finger of a child therein without the finger being pinched.

Abstract: A portable, reversibly-extensible hammock has a foldable structure for supporting a substantially planar support surface. The hammock can be folded for transportation or storage, and can be shifted to an extended configuration to create a rectangular structure similar to a cot or hammock frame. A dual-purpose tensioning strap joins the support surface to the foldable structure and increases the structural integrity of the structure by urging top portions of leg members toward a center point of the rectangular structure.
