Abstract: Methods and systems stabilization of a camera image for short term or ‘pole shake’ and longer term ‘pole drift’ are provided. The camera is attached to a fixed structure. The pole drift is over periods of times long enough that the imagery can change significantly between a base reference frame and the current stabilized transient frame. A multitude of mapped frames and associated information is maintained. The slowly varying camera orientation (“pole drift”) is decoupled from the rapid motion jitter (“pole shake”), and separate transformations are calculated for each. Up to three transformations may be combined together for any one input frame. The separate transformations are combined together, so that only one full-blown image transformation computation is performed for each frame. A surveillance system applies a stabilization method.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method for focusing a camera on an object of interest in a scene. In one embodiment, an illuminator comprising a light source which emits light at a desired wavelength band is aimed at an object in a scene. The source light beam impacts the object at an aim point. A spectral sensing device senses a reflection of the projected light beam off the object. In response to the reflected light beam having been detected by the spectral sensing device, a location of the object in the scene is determined and communicated to a video acquisition system. A focus of the video system is changed so that the object is brought into the camera's field of view. The object can be tracked as it moves about the scene. A spectral image of the object can be captured and analyzed for the object's material composition.

Abstract: A programmable, many-band spectral imager based on addressable spatial light modulators (ASLMs), such as micro-mirror-, micro-shutter- or liquid-crystal arrays, is described. Capable of collecting at once, without scanning, a complete two-dimensional spatial image with ASLM spectral processing applied simultaneously to the entire image, the invention employs optical assemblies wherein light from all image points is forced to impinge at the same angle onto the dispersing element, eliminating interplay between spatial position and wavelength. This is achieved, as examples, using telecentric optics to image light at the required constant angle, or with micro-optical array structures, such as micro-lens- or capillary arrays, that aim the light on a pixel-by-pixel basis.

Abstract: This invention provides a system and method for generating camera calibrations for a vision system camera along three discrete planes in a 3D volume space that uses at least two (e.g. parallel) object planes at different known heights. For any third (e.g. parallel) plane of a specified height, the system and method then automatically generates calibration data for the camera by interpolating/extrapolating from the first two calibrations. This alleviates the need to set the calibration object at more than two heights, speeding the calibration process and simplifying the user's calibration setup, and also allowing interpolation/extrapolation to heights that are space-constrained, and not readily accessible by a calibration object. The calibration plate can be calibrated at each height using a full 2D hand-eye calibration, or using a hand-eye calibration at the first height and then at a second height with translation to a known position along the height (e.g. Z) direction.

Abstract: In exemplary implementations of this invention, a light field camera uses a light field dictionary to reconstruct a 4D light field from a single photograph. The light field includes both angular and spatial information and has a spatial resolution equal to the spatial resolution of the imaging sensor. Light from a scene passes through a coded spatial light modulator (SLM) before reaching an imaging sensor. Computer processors reconstruct a light field. This reconstruction includes computing a sparse or compressible coefficient vector using a light field dictionary matrix. Each column vector of the dictionary matrix is a light field atom. These light field atoms each, respectively, comprise information about a small 4D region of a light field. Reconstruction quality may be improved by using an SLM that is as orthogonal as possible to the dictionary.

Abstract: Enhancing the image quality by suitable color noise correction is realized without depending on a subject, a photographing scene, and photographing conditions by determining and correcting a color noise component according to photographing conditions of a camera. The present invention is configured of an imaging device that has: an imaging unit; a signal processing unit that performs signal processing on an image signal inputted from the imaging unit and outputs a luminance signal and a chrominance signal; a camera controlling unit that controls at least one of photographing conditions of optical conditions and exposure of the photographing unit and a signal processing condition of the signal processing unit; and a color noise correction unit that extracts and corrects a color noise component from the chrominance signal inputted from the signal processing unit. The camera control unit controls the color noise correction unit using information of the photographing conditions.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a solid-state imaging device includes a pixel array and a high dynamic range (HDR) synthesizing circuit 19. A pixel is configured as a small pixel group. The HDR synthesizing circuit 19 includes a valid pixel selecting unit 34, a sensitivity ratio correcting unit 35, and a calculation processing unit 36. The valid pixel selecting unit 34 selects one or more small pixels validating a use of a signal value in the HDR synthesis as a valid pixel from among the small pixel group. The sensitivity ratio correcting unit 35 executes sensitivity ratio correction on the signal value of each small pixel. The calculation processing unit 36 uses the signal value of the valid pixel among the signal values of the small pixels from the sensitivity ratio correcting unit 35 for a calculation for the HDR synthesis.

Abstract: This disclosure pertains to systems, methods, and computer readable medium for mapping particular user interactions, e.g., gestures, to the input parameters of various image processing routines, e.g., image filters, in a way that provides a seamless, dynamic, and intuitive experience for both the user and the software developer. Such techniques may handle the processing of both “relative” gestures, i.e., those gestures having values dependent on how much an input to the device has changed relative to a previous value of the input, and “absolute” gestures, i.e., those gestures having values dependent only on the instant value of the input to the device. Additionally, inputs to the device beyond user-input gestures may be utilized as input parameters to one or more image processing routines. For example, the device's orientation, acceleration, and/or position in three-dimensional space may be used as inputs to particular image processing routines.
