In some embodiments, this includes determining a file to recover, looking up an index to find a file record number associated with the file, determining constituent blocks based on the file record number, reconstructing data from the constituent blocks, and storing the data in a storage device.

Abstract: Various embodiments of systems and methods for event auditing framework are described herein. The auditing framework includes one or more auditees, an auditor, and a memory associated with the auditor. Each auditee is associated with a digitally signed file including metadata of one or more events authorized for the auditee. The auditor validates digital signature of the file when the auditee is registered with the auditor. After validation of the digital signature, the metadata of the authorized events is stored with respect to the auditee to enable the auditee perform the authorized events. The auditing framework is expandable in that new event types can be added or updated dynamically. The auditing framework also ensures consistency of events.

Abstract: An automated facilities management system has the ability to predict occupant behavior by identifying recurring patterns in the way that people use buildings and comparing them with environmental characteristics. This technology is not limited to human behavior patterns, but extends to any mechanical systems or data points that tend to vary in recurring patterns. The data processing is carried out by rules engines triggered by relational database modifications.

Abstract: Data replication with delta compression is disclosed. A primary system and a replica system are determined to both have an identical first data segment that is similar to a second data segment. The second data segment is encoded, wherein the encoding refers to the first data segment.

Abstract: Techniques and mechanisms are provided to support live file optimization. Active I/O access to an optimization target is monitored during optimization. Active files need not be taken offline or made unavailable to an application during optimization and retain the ability to support file operations such as read, write, unlink, and truncate while an optimization engine performs deduplication and/or compression on active file ranges.

Abstract: Techniques and mechanisms are provided to allow for selective optimization, including deduplication and/or compression, of portions of files and data blocks. Data access is monitored to generate a heat index for identifying sections of files and volumes that are frequently and infrequently accessed. These frequently used portions may be left non-optimized to reduce or eliminate optimization I/O overhead. Infrequently accessed portions can be more aggressively optimized.

Abstract: A system and method is described herein that cache web documents in two or more caches in an optimized manner. The web documents result from a plurality of queries presented to a web search engine. Each web document has a tier score indicating a position of the web document in the caches. The tier scores are modified in a manner that rearranges the web documents in caches. This rearrangement of the web documents in the caches can advantageously improve the retrieval time for the web documents.

Abstract: Method, system, and programs for resolving data inconsistency in a distributed system having a plurality of replica instances. In response to a read request of at least one data element, a key-specific probability value for the at least one data element of the read request is retrieved. Based on the retrieved key-specific probability value and a system load of the distributed system, a self-healing probability of the at least one data element of the read request is computed. A self-healing transaction that includes the at least one data element of the read request is then generated based on the self-healing probability of the at least one data element. The generated self-healing transaction is further applied to at least some of the plurality of replica instances in the distributed system to resolve data inconsistency.

An amount of indexed data accessible to a user may be based on an index storage limit selected by the user, such that data that exceeds the index storage limit may continue to be indexed. Also, one or more projects can be elastically scaled for a user to provide resources that may meet the specific needs of each project.

Abstract: Method of presenting search results to a user of a social network site on the Internet, in which each user of the social network site has a user profile with information regarding the user, includes obtaining content items satisfying a search of information on the Internet by a first user. The content items are ranked as a function of the information in the user profile of the first user such that the content items which are related to the information in the user profile of the first user are ranked higher than the content items which are unrelated to the information in the user profile of the first user. The content items according to ranking are then transferred to a display of the first user via the Internet such that higher ranked content items are displayed on the display prior to lower ranked content items being displayed on the display.

Abstract: A two stage model identifies individuals having knowledge in a subject matter area relevant to a query. A relevance model receives a query and identifies documents, or other information, relevant to the query. A co-occurrence model identifies individuals, in the retrieved documents, related to the subject matter of the query. Individuals identified can be scored by combining scores from the relevance model and the co-occurrence model and output in a rank ordered list.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for determining an optical connectable route to a target person based on a mutual intimacy index in that, when a specific member searches a route capable of connecting with a desiring target person though his acquaintance stored in his address book, it can determine an optical connectable route having a high mutual intimacy index between brokers as few broker as possible, by using the intimacy information of acquaintance lists stored in the address books of each member.

Abstract: A query governor intelligently sets tailored thresholds for a query accessing a computer database. The query governor preferably generates a tailored threshold for each query sent to the database for execution. The tailored threshold for the query is preferably compared to an estimated query execution time to determine whether to execute the query. The query governor uses one or more factors applied to a standard threshold to generate the tailored threshold. The factors preferably include user factors and query factors. These factors are dynamically adjusted by the query governor in an intelligent way to increase optimal use of the database. Other factors may include factors such as job priority factor, resource factor and an application factor.

Abstract: Systems and methods of selecting supplemental content for a document in a computer network environment. A data processing system can receive a notification of a request for a document. The data processing system can access a set of Boolean query expressions stored in association with a plurality of supplemental content records and identify a subset that are satisfied by the document. The data processing system can determine a document relevance score for each query expression in the subset. The score may be based, in part, on a feature of a document token that contributes to satisfying the respective query expression. The data processing system can select an expression from the subset based on the scores and select a supplemental content record associated with the selected Boolean query expression. The data processing system can output data for supplementing the document with a content indicated by the selected supplemental content record.

Abstract: A system is described for collecting data records which have been correlated to subscriber, or end user, access network, core network, transport network, and application service information, referred to as end user correlated data records and utilizing those records in a wireless or wireline network to identify and address correctable conditions in a network, such as a wireless or wireline network. The system includes at least one probe in the network which is able to monitor network activity and provide detailed data records on that activity. These data records are sent to a mediation device that correlates those data records with subscriber and/or location data, to create the end user correlated data records. An intelligent application services device takes the end user correlated data records and examines the records to determine if there are any correctable conditions in the network or the end user devices.

A client computing device provides a search request to a network computing and storage provider. Responsive to the search request, the network computing and storage provider provides search results corresponding to historical content representations associated with content previously requested by the client computing device or a user associated with the client computing device. The network computing and storage provider may determine the search results based on a navigation path associated with a previous request for content, or based on any number of other factors.

Abstract: Large amounts of data resulting from periodic sampling and capture of data corresponding to variable operational parameters of one or more systems, such as a plurality of vehicles, and stored in a large number of rows of data corresponding to the number of captured samples are summarized in an analytically meaningful way by simply counting the instances of particular values of the operational parameters of interest in the form of a histogram and stored as a single row of data. The reduction in number of rows of data allows acceleration of processing of later queries by a factor of one thousand (assuming an average trip length of ten minutes) or more.

Abstract: Methods and systems for distributing interest categories within a hierarchical classification, wherein a parent interest category is identified and the hierarchical classification is filtered. A sub-interest category is extracted, based on the filtering, and a weighting associated with the sub-interest category is transferred into the parent interest category. Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining priority of data in a database managed by a computing device are provided. The data comprises a list of events, the computing device comprising a processing unit interconnected with a memory device and a display device. The enhanced index can be metadata associated with an enhanced cluster. The enhanced cluster can be a document cluster associated with the metadata. The enhanced cluster can be aggregated into a merged document. The merged document can be a document including the enhanced cluster contents. The ranking algorithm can be executed on the merged document to obtain a final ranking of content within the single document.

Abstract: Techniques for generating content for topics based on user demand are disclosed. In some embodiments, generating content for topics based on user demand includes determining a topic based on a user demand; automatically generating content for the topic; and selecting the content that is contextually relevant for display within a corpus of content (e.g., a web site, a social networking web page, content customized for mobile devices, content customized based on location awareness, or an electronic mail message).

Abstract: Method and system are provided to determine a member profile associated with a reference to a person in a publication and may be used beneficially to identify members of a social network in news articles. The system may be configured to detect a publication that was shared by a member of an on-line social networking system, determine that the publication includes a name entity, and identify a member profile in the on-line social networking system that represents a member referenced by the name entity. The process of identifying a member profile in the on-line social networking system that represents a member referenced by the name entity may include building a list of candidate profiles from the member profiles of the on-line social networking system and selecting a matching profile from the candidate profiles, utilizing one or more disambiguation techniques.

Abstract: A documents database has a plurality of documents, including but not limited to text files, video clips and sound files. Each document is associated with at least one category of a plurality of categories in a categories database, and each category has at least one keyword. A search request having at least one search term is received from a user, and a categories database is searched for categories having a keyword corresponding to the user search term to identify first level categories. The other keywords from the identified first level categories are retrieved and the documents database is searched for documents having a user search term or a retrieved keyword. The identified documents are then ranked and presented to the user. Other search expansion techniques, and display techniques, are also discussed.

Abstract: Personalized media charts are described. In embodiments, a request can be received for a personalized media chart that lists media assets as recommendations in a relevant order for a user. The media assets are initially ordered in the personalized media chart according to a chart rank for each media asset. A relevance factor is then determined for each of the media assets, where the relevance factor for a media asset indicates a relevance of the media asset to the user. A chart rank adjustment is calculated for each of the media assets based on the relevance factors for each of the media assets, and the media assets are then reordered in the personalized media chart according to the chart rank adjustments for each of the media assets.

Abstract: A system searches a first search index based on a search query to obtain first search results and searches a second search index based on the search query to obtain second search results. The system further ranks the first search results using a first ranking algorithm and one or more first ranking parameters to produce ranked first search results, and ranks the second search results using a second ranking algorithm and one or more second ranking parameters to produce second search results, where the one or more first ranking parameters are different than the one or more second ranking parameters and where the one or more second ranking parameters include at least one of previous user feedback associated with custom content that corresponds to the second search index, annotations of the custom content provided by a user, or usage patterns associated with users previously accessing and searching the custom content. The system also provides the ranked first and second search results to a user.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and graphical user interfaces for improved searching via user specified ratings are disclosed. A rating icon for a document in a group of documents is provided. A user rates the document in the group of documents by performing a selection operation on the rating icon. A user-specific rating for the document is generated based on the user rating. A search request is received from a user. A plurality of documents that satisfy the search request are identified (including a first respective document which not previously been rated by the user but is in the group of documents that included the rated document.) A response to the search request is sent. The response includes instructions to display a ranked set of links to at least some of the documents that satisfy the search request including a link to the first respective document displayed with the user-specific rating.
