Among other things, the tailpiece includes: a treble side; a bass side opposite the treble side, wherein the treble side is longer than the bass side at a tip of the tailpiece such that the treble side extends further towards a bridge of the musical instrument along an axis oriented from a tail end of the tailpiece towards the tip of the tailpiece; and a plurality of string holes for holding a plurality of strings of the musical instrument.

Optionally, musical chord patterns are identified by colors. Optionally, key numbers are shown beneath corresponding lyric text, to provide an indication of rhythm pertaining to a musical piece defined in the system of musical notation. Optionally, note numbers are arranged on at least one horizontal line when presented for musical performance. The apparatus, and method employed in association therewith, are capable of expediting students when learning to play an instrument controlled via a keyboard, thereby improving student musical enjoyment and improvement in musical performance skill.

Abstract: In the present invention, a CPU obtains the number of notes for each skill type from note data included in a phrase segment for which musical performance input has been performed, compares the note data included in the phase segment for which the musical performance input has been performed and musical performance data inputted by the musical performance so as to obtain the number of correctly played notes for each skill type, and accumulates evaluation values for the respective skill types each found by multiplying an accuracy rate for each skill type obtained from the obtained number of notes and the obtained number correctly played notes for each skill type by a skill value of each type so as to obtain an overall musical performance evaluation value.

Abstract: A method and system for generating a synthetic simulation of a media recording is disclosed. One embodiment accesses a sound reference archive and heuristically creates a new sound that is matched against at least one sound in the sound reference archive. The media recording is analyzed and a synthetic sound based on the analyzing of the media recording is generated.

Abstract: A flexible mosaic armor system that defeats threats at any attack angle includes top and middle solid elements layers separated by uniform gaps that intersect at apexes. The top elements can have a “hem” shape with raised edges. The middle elements can be flat, or can also have a hem shape. In embodiments, the edges of the top and middle layers are aligned and separated by an offset that is three or four times the gap width. Off-axis spike and needle strikes are thereby trapped between the two solid element layers, without added textile reinforcement. Embodiments include an apex layer of solid elements that overlap the first layer apexes, the apex layer being the second layer or a third layer beneath the 2 upper layers. The apex layer can be sandwiched between two textile backer layers that provide a full uninterrupted bonding surface to all of the solid element layers.

Abstract: A composite armor plate includes a fracture layer placed adjacent to a ceramic layer. The ceramic layer provides a ballistic resistant layer that receives a ballistic impact and propagates a compression wave. The fracture layer is placed behind the ceramic layer and absorbs a portion of the compression wave propagating out in front of the ballistic impact. The absorbed compression wave causes the fracture layer to at least partially disintegrate into fine particles, which dissipates energy in the process. To cause a higher degree of fracturing (and thus larger dissipation of compression wave energy) the fracture layer includes a plurality of resonators embedded in a fracture material.

A pressure sensor is provided for acquiring an internal pressure of the working space. An evaluation unit of the pneumatic drive is adapted to process the value of a path distance of a movement of the piston acquired by the path transducer as well as a variation of the internal pressure in the working space acquired by the pressure sensor. The variation of the internal pressure is associated with the movement of the piston in the working space. Based on these values, a power of the pneumatic drive can be determined.
