  • Patent number: 8955377
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for determining or monitoring a predetermined fill level, a phase boundary or a density of a medium in a container with an oscillatable unit. The oscillatable unit is placed at the height of the predetermined fill level and is excited to oscillate successively with discrete exciter frequencies following one another in a frequency scanning operation (sweep) within a predeterminable frequency band in the working range of the oscillatable unit. The corresponding oscillations of the oscillatable unit are received in the form of received signals; wherein that exciter frequency is ascertained in the frequency scanning operation, at which the oscillatable unit oscillates with an oscillation frequency, which has a predetermined phase shift between the transmission signal and the received signal; and wherein the transmitting/receiving unit excites the oscillatable unit to oscillate with the ascertained oscillation frequency.

  • Patent number: 8955387
Abstract: High cycle fatigue testing is required with regard to a large number of components in order to evaluate their performance and capabilities. Typically such components are mounted such that an excitation mechanism such as through use of air jets can be utilized in order to stimulate vibration. In order to isolate a desired vibration mode generally, an isolation device is utilized. The isolation device presents an edge to a node within the component in order to inhibit vibration modes other than that of interest. Unfortunately, prior isolation elements tend to wear resulting in spurious results. By providing an isolation element within an isolation device, a fatigue test arrangement can be achieved in which both axial movement in the direction of a spring upon which the element is presented as well as lateral movement can be achieved.

Abstract: An apparatus for removing a nut is described. The apparatus includes a housing, a cage, and a canted coil spring. The housing has a top surface, an interior sidewall, and a bottom surface. The interior sidewall defines an orifice that extends from the top surface to a lip. The interior sidewall includes a three-lobed cam and a groove. Each lobe has a lobe center line, a counterclockwise cam inner surface on one side of the lobe center line, and a clockwise cam inner surface on the opposite side of the lobe center line. The canted coil spring is received by the groove of the interior sidewall and the groove of the cage. The canted coil spring rotatably couples the cage to the housing. During nut removal, the housing rotates counterclockwise relative to the cage. The cage rotates counterclockwise to engage the nut, and the cage interfaces with the interior sidewall.

Abstract: A removal tool includes an elongate rod. A first end of the elongate rod is to be connected to and driven by a drive device, and a second end of the elongate rod is connected integrally to the first end. A direction from the first end toward the second end, which is substantially parallel to a longitudinal center axis of the elongate rod, is defined as a first direction. Along the first direction the second end is conically tapered and formed with plural splines which obliquely extend relative to the longitudinal center axis according a twist direction, wherein the twist direction generally conforms to a direction in which the removal tool is used to unfasten a fastener. Each spline has a circumferential surface having plural first teeth which obliquely extend relative to the longitudinal center axis according to the twist direction along the first direction.

  • Patent number: 8955417
Abstract: A design for a rotary drive both for a tool and for a workpiece to be rotationally driven is proposed. This rotary drive design contains a cylindrical basic shape which deviates from a circular cylindrical shape. The contour or the cross section through this basic shape has a plurality of rounded projections and rounded recesses arranged between said projections. The projections tangentially touch a circle having a maximum radius, while the recesses, for their part, tangentially touch a circle having a minimum radius. Deviating from this cylindrical basic shape, in the regions between the projections are configured conical surfaces, which are not instrumental in the transmission of torques, but take care of centering and alignment between the tool and the workpiece.

Abstract: A threaded fastener driving tool includes a proximal end portion, a distal driving head, and a torsion zone extending proximally from the driving head, The distal driving head has a central portion and a plurality of driving surfaces. Each pair of adjacent driving surfaces define a driving space therebetween. The driving surfaces and driving spaces are configured to engage a threaded fastener. The torsion zone includes a plurality of helical grooves bounded by non-cutting surfaces, each helical groove in communication with and extending proximally from at least one of the driving spaces. The helical grooves are configured to untwist and cause lengthening of the torsion zone when an input torque applied to the proximal end portion is insufficient to overcome an output resistance torque at the driving head. The torsion zone may comprise a plurality of twisted wires or cables. A method of manufacturing the driving tool is disclosed.
