Abstract: The present invention relates to an ultrasound imaging system and a method for the measurement of a distance (58) between two points (54, 56) within a volume of a three-dimensional image (50). To avoid the commonly known fore-shortening effect, according to which a distance measured by the system is shorter than an actual distance (58) between the two points (54, 56), an in-depth control of a cursor (53) shown in the image (50) on the display as provided to the user. Further, an indication (72) may be given to the user that the cursor (53) collides with a structure (52) within the volume to allow the user to assess the movement of the cursor out of the plane shown on the display more conveniently. By this, occurrence of the fore-shortening effect may be avoided.

Abstract: A generally spherical vascular remodeling device is permanently positionable at a junction of afferent and efferent vessels of a bifurcation having an aneurysm. After positioning the device at the junction to substantially conform the device to the shape of the junction, the device acts as a scaffolding to inhibit herniation of objects out of the aneurysm and permits perfusion to the efferent vessels. Positioning the device may include deployment and mechanical or electrolytic release from a catheter. Embolic material may be inserted in the aneurysm before or after positioning the device. The device may have a first end, a second end substantially opposite to the first end, and a plurality of polymer filaments extending between and coupled at the first end and the second end. Such devices may be football shaped, pumpkin shaped, or twisted. The device may include a plurality of polymer loops forming a generally spherical shape.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present invention provide devices for occluding vascular vessels. In some preferred forms, these devices are able to move from a first condition to a less compact, second condition in a vascular vessel so as to fully or partially prevent fluid from passing through the vessel. One such device includes a frame and a flexible sheet material. The device also includes an occluding material that is located in an interior region of the frame. The flexible sheet material and frame are associated with one another such that when the device is in the second condition in the vascular vessel, the sheet material is positioned in the vessel lumen so as to block fluid flow through the lumen.

Abstract: An occlusion system can include an expandable implant that can be delivered to a bodily lumen. The implant can be carried on an engagement section of a catheter used in the system. The implant can be assembled onto the catheter by coupling a cover member of the implant with a support member of the implant. When assembled, the system can be advantageously configured to have a low delivery profile to facilitate delivery through catheters having a size of less than 7 Fr, and in some cases, less than 6 Fr.

Abstract: A cutting guide for performing a bone osteotomy procedure is disclosed. The cutting guide includes a first arm having a first cutting guide surface formed therein, a second arm having a second cutting guide surface formed therein pivotably connected to the first arm and a distractor operatively connected to the first arm. The cutting guide is adapted to be affixed to the bone such that the first cutting guide surface is open to the second cutting guide surface. The first arm and second arm are rotatable with respect to each other such that manipulation of the distractor creates a force between the first arm and the second arm causing rotation of the first arm and second arm relative to each other. A method for using the cutting guide in a bone osteotomy procedure is also disclosed.

Abstract: A combination of a first assembly for guiding resection of a femur and tibia of a knee joint and a second assembly including femoral and tibial knee components. The combination of the first assembly and the second assembly provides optimal placement and positioning of the femoral and tibial knee components to achieve near-normal knee kinematics and tension. The preparation for and placement of the prosthetic knee components provides medial-pivoting kinematics mimicking that of the natural knee thereby promoting improved outcome for the patient.
