Patent number: 9211572Abstract: A system and method for sanitizing pneumatic conveying piping is provided. The system includes a motorized hose reel with a pig attached to the end of the hose. The pig is smaller in diameter than the inner diameter of the pipe through which it is conveyed. The decreased size of the pig keeps the conveying speed of the pig through the pipes down, while at the same time providing sufficient force to pull the supply hose attached to the pig through the pipes with the pig. The pig of some embodiments of the inventive concept is shaped as a hollow cone or frustoconical shape. Such a shape reduces weight of the pig and also allows the hose to be inserted through the body of the pig with a spray nozzle at the end. The hollow cone shape deflects relatively easily to allow the pig to go around corners or other obstructions. Also, such a pig design automatically centers the nozzle within the pipe during spraying.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2013Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: Horizon Systems, Inc.Inventor: Todd Baker

Patent number: 9211604Abstract: In resistance welding, an end portion and a flange portion are welded together at contact surfaces thereof by applying a voltage between a first electrode and a second electrode while an inner casing and a main metal piece are pressed in directions toward each other. When a shearing stress due to the pressure is applied to a ceramic guide pin, the guide pin is more resistant to wear compared to a phenolic resin guide pin. In addition, a clearance is between a large-diameter portion of the guide pin and an inner surface of a guide-pin insertion hole. Accordingly, the guide pin is capable of tilting in the radial direction, so that the guide pin can tilt so as to partially absorb the shearing stress. Therefore, the guide pin is more resistant to breakage compared to a guide pin made of ceramic that is not capable of tilting.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2012Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: NGK INSULATORS, LTD.Inventor: Nobukazu Ikoma

Patent number: 9211611Abstract: A method and system are provided for crystallizing thin films with a laser system. The method includes obtaining a thin film comprising a substrate and a target layer that contains nano-scale particles and is deposited on the substrate. The heat conduction between the target layer and the substrate of the thin film is determined based on thermal input from the laser system to identify operating parameters for the laser system that cause crystallization of the nano-scale particles of the target layer in an environment at near room temperature with the substrate remaining at a temperature below the temperature of the target layer. The laser system is then operated with the determined operating parameters to generate a laser beam that is transmitted along an optical path to impinge the target layer. The laser beam is pulsed to create a localized rapid heating and cooling of the target layer.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2012Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: Purdue Research FoundationInventors: Gary J.
