Abstract: Clonostachys rosea strains have novel usefulness as inoculants of plants promoting plant vigor, health, growth, yield and a reduction of competitive stress caused by other fungi when used alone or sequentially with many fungicides in an integrated pest management system (IPM). Seed and foliar uses are shown to inoculate and subsequently achieve endophytic colonization of the portion of the plant treated. While the germinating conidia of this organism has been shown to tolerate several fungicide groups, the established mycelium of Clonostachys rosea is significantly more tolerant to systemic fungicides facilitating use in seed and foliar applications. Seed treatment and colonization may occur at any time after harvest resulting in endophyte enhanced seed that ignores or is marginally altered by other fungal organisms and may be suitable for Feed, Food and Seed uses.

Abstract: Biologically pure cultures of Bacillus subtilis Maseca-1 strain were isolated from the pericarp of nixtamalized corn. The Bacillus Maseca-1 strain was characterized and found to produce peptides and/or other compounds that have antimicrobial activity. An extract prepared from the Bacillus Maseca-1 strain is active against microorganisms such as bacteria and mold and may be used as an agent to inhibit the growth of undesirable microorganisms and thereby prevent spoilage and extend the shelf life in foods.

Abstract: A method for preparing an instant noodle, a flour composition for an instant noodle, and an instant noodle are disclosed. The method for preparing the instant noodle includes preprocessing a non-wheat cereal to form processed non-wheat cereal flour. The method further includes providing a non-wheat cereal component having the processed non-wheat cereal flour, and mixing the non-wheat cereal component with a wheat component to form a flour composition. The amount of the non-wheat cereal component is at least 50 weight percent of the total weight of the flour composition, and the amount of the wheat component is 7.5-50 weight percent of the total weight of the flour composition. The flour composition is then formed into the instant noodle.

Abstract: Novel yeast-raised and other bakery products and methods of making those products are provided. The products are formed from dough comprising a thermally-stable amyloglucosidase, and a raw starch degrading amyloglucosidase and/or an anti-staling amylase. The level of added sugar included in the dough can be substantially reduced, and even eliminated, while still achieving a sweet product. Additionally, the resulting bakery product is free of, or at least substantially free of, fructose. The final baked product will also have improved texture properties, including superior firmness, resilience, and adhesiveness and can be made with a reduced amount of yeast.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for loading live poultry onto an overhead shackle conveyor system is used in poultry processing plants. The birds (25) are placed on a horizontal moving conveyor (22) that includes dividers (34) that form a series of spaces on the surface conveyor for receiving birds. The shackles are tilted upwardly from the surface conveyor and tend to engage the legs of the bird and lift the birds out of the conveyor system and along the processing path of the poultry plant.
