Publication number: 20160050894Abstract: The present invention provides Maternal Sterility Constructs (MSC) and methods of producing sterile progeny lacking germ cells. Female fish carrying the MSC transgene will give rise to a sterile generation, as the MSC specifically eliminates Progenitor Germ Cells (PGCs) of her progeny. These females are called lineage ending females. Male fish carrying the MSC transgene, however, give rise to fertile progeny (assuming the male is not derived from an MSC-transgenic female). Thus, MSC transgenic males can be used to propagate the transgenic line. The invention can be advantageously applied to provide effective population control and improve culture performance of farmed species, such as fish.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2015Publication date: February 25, 2016Inventors: Xavier LAUTH, John T. Publication number: 20160050934Abstract: Advantageously, para-chloroaniline (PCA) is minimal in antimicrobial articles prepared according to the method of the invention. A method of forming an antimicrobial article according to the invention comprises steps of: providing a polymerizable composition; incorporating an antimicrobially effective amount of at least one chlorhexidine-containing antimicrobial agent into the polymerizable composition; and, polymerizing the polymerizable composition to form chlorhexidine-containing polymer of the antimicrobial article, wherein processing temperature during the method is less than about 80° C.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2015Publication date: February 25, 2016Applicant: entrotech life sciences, inc.Inventor: James E. Publication number: 20160050935Abstract: Silver particles are prepared by aggregating silver ions in accordance with a method including steps of (a), in preparing a mixed solution by adding a thiol compound to a solution containing silver ions, adjusting an amount of the thiol compound added to the solution and (b) adding a reducing agent to the mixed solution. This allows a particle size and antibacterial activity of the silver particles to be easily adjusted.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 3, 2014Publication date: February 25, 2016Inventors: Tsutomu Furuzono, Yasumichi Kogai, Karl Kazushige Kawabe

Publication number: 20160050936Abstract: A composition that can be used as an additive to paints, adhesives and resins to provide a prolonged effectiveness to kill microorganisms exposed to the coating is disclosed. The biocidal coating is comprised of a calcium hydroxide particulate that is within the matrix forming material (e.g. paint, adhesive, resin, etc.). The calcium hydroxide is hygroscopic and attracts waters at a surface of the biocidal coating to limit conversion of the calcium hydroxide particulate at the surface to calcium carbonate in order to maintain a high alkalinity of the biocidal coating. The calcium hydroxide particulate is produced through calcination of crushed limestone, hydration, and then grinding and classification to a particle size less than 25 microns. The calcium hydroxide particulate is then mixed with water in a desired ratio prior to adding to the matrix forming material. The mixture is then applied shortly after mixing.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2014Publication date: February 25, 2016Inventor: Donald Mark Meade
