Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a system for translating a boosting algorithm includes an interface communicatively coupled to a processor. The interface is operable to receive a trained boosting model. The processor is operable to identify a plurality of split-node variables associated with the trained boosting model. Each of the plurality of split-node variables comprises a variable name, a cutoff point, and a weight. The processor may aggregate the split-node variables by variable name and cutoff point and then combine the weights of each of the plurality of split-node variables having the same variable name and cutoff point. The processor may then create a linear model based on the combined variables.

Abstract: An improved technique involves a device monitoring system providing alerting rules for a particular computing environment automatically based on existing alerting rules sets for other computing environments. Along these lines, when an IT professional monitors a computing environment through the device monitoring system, the device monitoring system stores alerting rules sets for that computing environment in a database. In storing rules sets and other information about that and other computing environments, the device monitoring system acquires intelligence from a wealth of data concerning how other IT professionals react to configuration changes in their computing environments. In this way, the device monitoring system then suggests alerting rules for a particular computing environment whose alerting rules are found to be suboptimal based on performance data from the particular computing environment.

Abstract: Methods and systems for suggesting one or more semantic tags for a media clip are disclosed. In one aspect, a media clip provided by a user is identified, and a first set of semantic tags is generated for the media clip based on a feature vector associated with the media clip. The first set of semantic tags is then provided to a classifier that is trained based on user selection of semantic tags. Further, a second set of semantic tags is obtained from the classifier and is suggested to the user for the media clip.

Abstract: A truth maintenance method and system. The method includes receiving by a computer processor, health event data associated with heath care records for patients. The computer processor associates portions of the health event data with associated patients and related records in a truth maintenance system database. The computer processor derives first health related assumption data and retrieves previous health related assumption data derived from and associated with previous portions of previous health event data. The computer processor executes non monotonic logic with respect to the first health related assumption data and the previous health related assumption data. In response, the computer processor generates and stores updated first updated health related assumption data associated with the first health related assumption data and the previous health related assumption data.

Abstract: A method determines a power flow of a power grid by optimizing an objective function representing an operation of the power grid using a spatial branch and bound (BB) framework for determining iteratively upper and lower bounds of the objective function. During the optimization, the lower bounds are determined using a semi-definite programming (SDP) relaxation of an optimal power flow (OPF) problem.

Abstract: An artificial intelligence expert system for screening provides characteristic profiles to candidates to perform a particular task. The profiles have individual screening items within them that are expected to be related to whether or not a person is suitable for the task. The responses from the persons to the items are received by a computer implemented expert system. The expert system applies a combined model to the responses to generate a forecasted performance of the person to the task. The combined model is a linear combination of two or more path dependent regressions performed on data from a set of N training persons with known abilities to do the task. The number of parameters in each path dependent model is limited to a fraction of the number N so that the path dependent models are not over fit to the data. A suitable fraction is ?.

Abstract: The likelihood of a disorder can be determined using a variety of techniques. One or more exhibited symptoms may be obtained for a patient. The likelihood that each symptom will be exhibited for the disorder can be computed, and a posterior probability of the disorder given the exhibited symptoms can be computed from the likelihood of the symptoms. Based on the resulting posterior probability of the disorder, a more accurate determination can be made of whether the patient is suffering from the disorder.

Abstract: Electronic communications can be normalized using feature sets. For example, an electronic representation of a noncanonical communication can be received, and multiple candidate canonical versions of the noncanonical communication can be determined. A first feature set representative of the noncanonical communication can be determined by splitting the noncanonical communication into at least one n-gram and at least one k-skip-n-gram. Multiple comparison feature sets can be determined by splitting multiple terms in training data into respective comparison feature sets. Multiple Jaccard index values can be determined using the first feature set and the multiple comparison feature sets. A subset of the multiple terms in the training data in which an associated Jaccard index value exceeds a threshold can be selected. The subset of the multiple terms can be included in the multiple candidate canonical versions.

Abstract: Methods and systems for feature extraction of LIDAR surface manifolds. LIDAR point data with respect to one or more LIDAR surface manifolds can be generated. An AHAH-based feature extraction operation can be automatically performed on the point data for compression and processing thereof. The results of the AHAH-based feature extraction operation can be output as a compressed binary label representative of the at least one surface manifold rather than the point data to afford a high-degree of compression for transmission or further processing thereof. Additionally, one or more voxels of a LIDAR point cloud composed of the point data can be scanned in order to recover the compressed binary label, which represents prototypical surface patches with respect to the LIDAR surface manifold(s).

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for determining an attribute for an online user of a candidate computing device is provided. The method implemented uses a host computing device. The method includes identifying a first set of model data including device data from a plurality of model computing devices including location data and access data, and a plurality of categories for an attribute of a population segment including an online user. Each category defines a segment of the attribute. The method further includes training a classification model by the host computing device with at least the first set of model data and the plurality of categories. The method also includes identifying device data associated with the candidate computing device. The method further includes applying the device data of the candidate computing device to the classification model to determine a category of the plurality of categories for the online user.

Abstract: A system and method for implementing a learning model for predicting the geographic location of an Internet Protocol (IP) address are disclosed. A particular embodiment of the system and method includes receiving a model to predict a geographic coordinates position of an Internet Protocol (IP) address, the model including one or more parameters and one or more variables associated with coordinates of the IP address and corresponding information associated with the IP address; receiving training data including a plurality of pairs of coordinates of a target IP address and corresponding information associated with the target IP address; determining, by use of a processor, the one or more parameters based on the training data and the model; and returning a result including information indicative of the determined parameters.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing network communications are described. An example resource management system includes a communications manager configured to access information regarding communication protocols used by corresponding broker systems and to provide message translations based on an origin and/or destination of the message to be transmitted. A message processor is coupled to the communications manager and is configured to serialize incoming and/or outgoing broker messages and to facilitate queuing of incoming and outgoing message traffic with broker systems. A communications configurer is configured to track one or more communication attributes of broker systems and changes thereto to ensure communications between the resource management systems are broker systems are conducted in accordance with the communication attributes of the broker systems. A communications rules provider is configured to determine which broker system is to be communicated with in order to fulfill a resource request.

Abstract: Certain example embodiments described herein relate to techniques for enabling a business process model (BPM) to be transparent (in whole or in part) from the source of data that triggers it. More particularly, certain example embodiments relate to techniques enabling transparent composition and decomposition of e-form data from one or more e-form formats into data that is directly usable by a Business Process Model Engine. Information from an e-form may, for example, be used in a business process, e.g., after a template or document type is created that represents the e-form in a format that the BPM Engine understands, and the e-form may be transparently composed into and decomposed out from the business data in certain example embodiments.

Abstract: Program code on one or more computers receives a request from a first end-user to join a crowdsourced network of language translators (crowdsourced network). The program code determines the first end-user is a registered member of the crowdsourced network. The program code adds the first end-user as a language translator within the crowdsourced network. The program code receives from a second end-user a request for language translation service to translate plain text from the second end-user. The program code selects one of the language translators from the crowdsourced network who is qualified to perform the language translation service requested. The program code generates an interactive chat session to connect the language translator selected with the second end-user, wherein the language translator selected translates the plain text, via the interactive chat session that allows plain text to be translated at least more frequently than on an hourly basis.

Abstract: A business can use an improved workforce management system which includes capabilities for supporting intraday dynamic staffing. This dynamic staffing can include identifying wages which should be offered to workers to induce them to meet the business' needs, based on, for example, historical information stored in a database. Systems which include dynamic intraday staffing can be run using remote servers and interfaces accessed through various types of devices, such as internet enabled personal computers.

Abstract: A system for managing product inventory includes an Internet-connected server and software executing on the server from a non-transitory physical medium, the software providing establishment of a first association of at least one stock keeping unit (SKU) and any associated metadata including product availability counts to at least one point in time and or at least one time range identified within an interactive shopping media presentation, establishment of a second association of at least one potential consumer to the interactive shopping media presentation, monitoring for and tracking of interaction sequences initiated by the at least one potential consumer, the interaction sequences enabled from within the interactive shopping media presentation or from within an interactive display associated thereto, and adjustment of the SKU-based product availability counts in the SKU metadata relative to the latest interaction results.

Abstract: Various embodiments of a system and method for managing shipment release from a storage area in a materials handling facility are described. Embodiments may include a system configured to determine that a shipment including multiple units is expected to be conveyed from a storage area to a packing station in a materials handling facility. The system may also be configured to evaluate each respective unit of the shipment according to one or more criteria related to physical characteristics of the unit in order to generate an order in which the units of the shipment are to be provided to the packing station. The system may also be configured to generate an instruction to provide the units of the shipment to the packing station according to the generated order.

Abstract: A method and system is provided that may be used to dynamically modify membership of a collaboration group participating in a collaboration session using dynamic situational information associated with collaboration session and/or collaboration group member candidates. A change in collaboration session purpose may trigger a modification of group membership in accordance with a concomitant change in group membership criteria. A change of situational information associated with any group member candidate may trigger the modification of group membership, to add or delete the candidate from the group.

Detailed user e-mail preferences data stored at a central server may be selectively altered such that incoming correspondence is redirected in accordance with the user's preferences. Computer program code at the central server may parse incoming e-mail header information and data content, selectively extract data from identified types of correspondence, and forward the extracted data in accordance with the user's preferences. Additional computer program code may manipulate the extracted data in accordance with format requirements and display the manipulated data to a user in a desired format.

Abstract: A gateway service platform is disclosed that provides access to a payment processing system via an open network such as the internet. The gateway service platform also provides access to service systems that provide a variety of services and applications offered by or affiliated with the payment processing system. The gateway service platform allows the payment processing system to reach users and to facilitate transactions on a wide variety of devices that may not otherwise be able to connect to payment processing system. Other devices, such as payment terminal devices, can also interact with a payment processing system through the gateway service platform using the same network and protocol. Embodiments of the invention allow devices on these open networks to connect with the payment processing system without having to change the existing infrastructure of the payment processing system.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed generally to systems, methods, and apparatuses for authenticating a cardholder using multiple tokenization authentication. Embodiments of the invention are directed at a method. The method includes receiving at a first entity a first token from a consumer and determining a second token associated with the first token. Once the second token is determined, the second token is sent to a server computer at a second entity. The server computer then determines an account identifier associated with the second token and processes a transaction using the account identifier.

Abstract: Electronic data interchange (EDI) documents are validated by creating an inventory of all rules, dynamically adjusting the inventory based upon entity specific rules derived from a plurality of companion guides, determining a profile containing pointers to select rules in the inventory for each companion guide and storing the profile for each companion guide in a storage. A runtime checker can then be used to check a received EDI document with a corresponding rule set, forward the EDI document if the EDI document matches its current rule set and return the EDI document if the EDI document does not match its current rule set. EDI rules may be enforced, for example, by determining entity-specific rules from corresponding companion guides, by expressing each rule in a neutral and machine readable format, by classifying the rules and/or by creating an inventory of rules and pointers to entity-specific rules.

Abstract: A system and method for interconnecting multiple point of sale devices creating a mesh-like network structure which reduces connectivity costs while providing greater reliability due to multiple network paths is disclosed. By linking point of sale devices within a virtual network, the need for individual connections to a point of sale controller is eliminated and alternative network paths are provided, thereby ensuring maximum up-time and optimal connection speeds.

Abstract: Unauthorized copying of a transaction barcode is prevented by including a sensed condition or other publicly-accessible data with the transaction barcode for use as a comparison with the publicly accessible data determined at a barcode reader. If the sensed condition included in the transaction barcode indicates that the transaction barcode was generated for a different transaction, then the barcode reader invalidates the transaction. For instance, if the barcode was generated too distant in time, position, or sequential transactions, then the barcode reader invalidates the transaction barcode as an unauthorized copy of a transaction barcode generated for a different transaction.

Abstract: A method, programmed medium and system are provided for implementing a prebuilt and encrypted personal identification information (PII) profile which resides only on a user's computer and is prevented from being permanently stored in a server's database. When a user visits a web site and creates a new account, the site submits a request to query the user's profile using an extension to the HTTP protocol. The user is prompted by the user's browser to grant the site permission to do so and the site automatically uploads a non-personal identifying number (ID) to the user's system to create an account. User-selected fields of the PII are transmitted to the server for processing a user-requested transaction. All personal information remains on the user's computer within the user's encrypted PII profile and is deleted at the server after the completion of the requested transaction.

Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed which relate to an NFC-enabled security token that is removably coupled to a mobile device. The security token may be provisioned with the information by the mobile device, then decoupled from the mobile device and used to authenticate the user or perform a transaction at a POS terminal equipped with an NFC reader. The security token includes logic for user-controlled restrictions on allowable purchases, such as payment limits, timeouts, vendor identifiers, allowed purchases, and location-based restrictions. The security token is further equipped with “self-destruct” security features, such as deactivating itself or erasing any sensitive information upon being unable to contact the mobile device for a specified duration, or being subject to an unauthorized or restricted transaction, until such time as it is re-coupled to the mobile device.

Abstract: A DRM compliance system can include one or more DRM servers, capture devices capable of continuously encrypting content at capture, and one or more rights compliance software applications. Methods of ensuring DRM compliance can include registering and verifying capture devices prior to the presentation of protectable content. Unique IDs associated with the capture devices may be stored as DRM liens in a DRM server along with particular time periods an identified DRM policy is in effect. The rights compliance software application can consult a DRM server to determine if encrypted content captured by a device is subject to a DRM policy. The server can make such a determination based on attempting to match data identifying the capture device and time of capture to one or more DRM liens. When matches are found, applicable DRM policies are applied by decrypting the content and then rendering the content in a DRM-compatible form.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an apparatus comprising a memory and a processor is provided. The memory is operable to store information associated with a user account. The processor can receive a message indicating that a transaction associated with a card has occurred and receive a first input indicating that the transaction is fraudulent. The processor can receive a second input indicating that a report should be filed and present, on a display, a plurality of questions to determine whether the card has been stolen. The processor can receive a third input indicating an answer to each of the plurality of questions and present, on the display, an affidavit. The processor can receive a fourth input indicating the affidavit has been electronically signed and present, on the display, a confirmation message indicating that the report has been filed.

Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for delivering content based on physical object characteristics. When a physical object is detected within a specified proximity of a component of a computer system, the computer system submits an accessed object identifier for the physical object to a content portal. The content portal identifies content and corresponding layout information for the computer system by at least determining the commonality between object keywords for the physical object and target keywords for content providers and determining content placement priorities corresponding to content providers. The content portal sends the content and layout information to the computer system. The computer system filters a subset of content from the received and presents the filtered subset of content on a presentation surface in accordance with corresponding layout information.

Abstract: An operations dashboard may be used to present recommended solutions to various challenges faced by a retail store that is part of an enterprise. In some implementations, a metrics engine may be used to track and diagnose challenges related to various performance metrics, such as inventory, pricing, customer satisfaction, and the like at one or more of the enterprise's retail store locations. The operations dashboard may, in certain embodiments, display one or more of the retail stores along with their corresponding diagnosed business challenges. A knowledge engine may be used to identify one or more solutions to the diagnosed business challenges, and the solutions may also be displayed on the dashboard. In some implementations, each of these solutions may have a corresponding recommendation score relating to the expected efficacy of the solution to solve the challenge.

In one design of location logging, a terminal periodically determines its location, e.g., during its paging slots. The terminal determines whether there is a change in its location and stores its location if a change in location is detected. In one design of location and time based filtering, the terminal obtains a location and time criterion with a target area and a time period. The terminal determines its location during the time period, e.g., based on the location log. The terminal evaluates the location and time criterion based on the target area and its location during the time period, e.g., based on at least one sector ID for the target area and one or more sector IDs for its location. The terminal determines whether to download and/or present broadcast information based on the result of the evaluation.

Abstract: A system and method for increasing displaying time of online advertisements. Upon receiving a search request, a search engine identifies a list of search results and displays them on one side of a result page. The search engine also obtains a list of advertisements and displays them on the other side of the result page. When a user scrolls down to look at search results at a lower portion of the result page, the list of advertisements are moved down, following the movement of the screen. Thus, at least a part of the list of advertisements continue to be displayed on the current screen. Since online advertisements are visible to the user for a longer time, there are more opportunities for the online advertisements to get the user's attention, and consequently more opportunities for the user to click on an advertisement. Thus, the efficiency of online advertising may be improved.

Abstract: Systems and methods of generating and using a bitmap index are disclosed. The bitmap index stores bit strings. In a particular implementation, each bit string in the bitmap index corresponds to an attribute of an audience. Each location in each bit string corresponds to the same audience member. The bitmap index supports parallelized and distributed execution of queries with respect to data indexed by the bitmap index. For example, the described bitmap index can be used to index advertising data, healthcare data, financial data, etc.

The channel options may be related to categories of computing devices, operating systems executed by computing devices, one or more sites, various forms of communication, client device applications, etc. A service provider that offers deals on behalf of merchants may determine one or more options for each communication channel with respect to merchants offering deals and with respect individuals that may participate in deals offered by the service provider. After determining the channel options for a deal offered by a particular merchant and for individuals designated to receive information about the deal, communications with respect to the deal may be exchanged over the channels via certain channel options.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a customized on-line shopping interface and/or manufacturing is disclosed. The system uses customer's computer, location, URL, IP address, email domain, embedded promotion code, or other predetermined criteria to provide special product offerings and pricing for a particular class or subclass of customers. If an unauthorized user attempts to access the system, a series of screens containing non-customized pricing is presented to the intruder so as not to alert the intruder that he or she has reached the restricted content. Based on the authentication information, automated manufacturing processes and equipment may be utilized to produce the customized products.

The method and system may further include operations to identify one or more seller ads associated with the matching identification entry, as determined by a distance measured between the matching identification entry and at least one extracted identification entry extracted from a selected content page and included in the set of identification entries. The identification of the one or more seller ads may also be determined by a relevance function based on the financial metrics.

Abstract: A method of substituting digital alternative media for a physical media article at an article dispensing machine to a customer is provided. The method includes receiving a request related to the media article through a user interface from the customer, identifying an associated content provider, and determining the alternative media selection at the associated content provider that corresponds to the media article. The method also includes receiving a unique customer identifier and identifying the associated content provider based on the unique customer identifier. The method further includes mapping the media article to the alternative media selection based on metadata. The media article may be available at the article dispensing machine or may be unavailable due to being out-of-stock or reserved to another customer. The associated content provider may be linked to the customer based on a subscription. The digital alternative media selection may be accessed by an audio/visual display interface.

Abstract: Systems and methods for information retrieval are provided that permit users and/or processing entities to access and define synthetic data, synthetic objects, and/or synthetic groupings of data in one or more collections of information. In one embodiment, data access on an information retrieval system can occur through an interpretation layer which interprets any synthetic data against data physically stored in the collection. Synthetic data can define virtual data objects, virtual data elements, virtual data attributes, virtual data groupings, and/or data entities that can be interpreted against data that may be stored physically in the collection of information. The system and methods for information retrieval can return results from the one or more collections of information based not only on the data stored, but also on the virtual data generated from interpretation of the stored data.

Abstract: In one implementation, a computer-implemented method includes accessing, by a computer system, information that describes use of one or more computer-based services by a particular user from one or more computing devices that are associated with the particular user; identifying one or more native applications that are associated with the one or more services, wherein the one or more native applications are configured to be installed and executed by one or more types of mobile computing devices; determining whether to recommend the one or more native applications based on the information and one or more threshold levels of use of the one or more computer-based services; and providing, based on the determining, a recommendation that is associated with the particular user and that identifies at least one of the one or more native applications.
