Patent number: 9301926Abstract: Drug-eluting devices and methods for the treatment of tumors of the pancreas, biliary system, gallbladder, liver, small bowel, or colon, are provided. Methods include deploying a drug-eluting device having a film which includes a mixture of a degradable polymer and a chemotherapeutic drug, wherein the film has a thickness from about 2 ?m to about 1000 ?m, into a tissue site and releasing a therapeutically effective amount of the chemotherapeutic drug from the film to treat the tumor, wherein the release of the therapeutically effective amount of the drug from the film is controlled by in vivo degradation of the polymer at the tissue site.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2014Date of Patent: April 5, 2016Assignees: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The General Hospital CorporationInventors: Laura Indolfi, Elazer R. Patent number: 9301927Abstract: The present invention provides single sheet and compound para-xylene films for therapeutic uses. For example, the present invention provides single sheet para-xylene films useful as tissue separators and/or adhesion barriers in a subject, where the top and/or bottom surfaces of such films have a water contact angle between 75 and 95 degrees (e.g., to prevent adhesion formation). The present invention also provides compound films composed of at least two para-xylene polymer films with a therapeutic molecule layer in between. Such compound films, when used in vivo (e.g., as a tissue separator and to treat inflammation or atrial fibrillation) allow either therapeutic molecule elution through one of the para-xylene layers, or therapeutic molecule release when the compound film is pierced, such as when it is sutured in place.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2014Date of Patent: April 5, 2016Assignees: Northwestern University, University of Maryland, Baltimore, Ann & Robert H. Patent number: 9301928Abstract: The disclosed conformable coating provides a highly durable and resilient film useful for protecting and repairing surfaces such as skin and mucous membranes. The coating comprises 0.1% to 65% wt. of a polymerized cyanoacrylate monomer and at least 35% wt. of an elastomer phase. The conformable coating composition comprises a polymerizable cyanoacrylate monomer, an elastomer, and a volatile liquid. The cyanoacrylate monomer is 0.1 to 65% wt. of the nonvolatile portion, the elastomer in an elastomer phase is at least 35% wt. of the nonvolatile portion, and the volatile liquid is at least 40% wt. of the total composition.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2012Date of Patent: April 5, 2016Assignee: 3M INNOVATIVE PROPERTIES COMPANYInventors: Robert A. Patent number: 9301930Abstract: A refreshment towel with applied solution is an apparatus consisting of a carrying agent, most likely a high quality cotton towel or towelette, that has been saturated with an aqueous solution comprised of various ingredients. The resulting saturated towel can be rubbed on a user's skin such that the aqueous solution that has been absorbed by the towel is transferred. The aqueous solution is compounded specifically to provide cooling, insect repellant, sun protection, freshness, cleansing and other uses. More specifically, the aqueous solution is specially formulated so that desired sensory results take place when the towel comes in contact with the skin.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2013Date of Patent: April 5, 2016Inventors: A Jeffrey Whitmire, Mona L Whitmire
