Patent number: 9346216Abstract: A protective wrap material enclosing a stack of cut sheets of paper is folded so that overlapping flaps of the wrap material cover opposite ends of the stack. The overlapping flaps are secured and sealed together only at selected areas that comprise a minor portion of the overlapped flaps, wherein the sealed areas have sufficient burst strength to avoid inadvertent opening of the wrap but at the same time are relatively easy to separate when it is desired to open the wrap to gain access to the cut sheets of paper. In a preferred embodiment the wrap material is heat sealable, and a modified heat plate for applying heat only to the selected areas has a grooved front surface defining heat focusing bars that concentrate heat sufficient to fuse the wrap material only in the selected areas.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2007Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventor: Sergio Sobreira De Oliveira

Patent number: 9346220Abstract: A blend of two partly incompatible polymers is extruded to form a film under conditions such that the alloy in the blend comprises fibrils extending mainly in one direction, the width and thickness of each fibril having a mean lower than 5 ?m, the fibrils being formed of the polymer component having a higher melting point, and the fibrils being surrounded by a matrix of the second polymer, which has a lower coefficient of elasticity. The special morphology is achieved by providing grids in a grid chamber upstream of the exit orifice of the extrusion die, and by sequential hot stretching at a temperature at which the higher melting polymer is at least partly crystalline, and cold stretching, at which both polymers are substantially solid. The second, cold stretching step, is carried out under conditions to give an elongation at break at 20° C. of at least 25%. The films are of particular value for forming crosslaminates having high shock resistance.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2004Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Inventor: Ole-Bendt Rasmussen

Patent number: 9346255Abstract: The present invention provides kits and methods for selectively transferring a portion of an image from a substrate (e.g., paper) to a dough (e.g., Silly Putty®) comprising pressing the dough onto an image printed on the substrate. The image comprises transferable ink and non-transferable ink. At least a portion of the image comprising transferable ink transfers from the substrate to the dough and the non-transferable ink does not transfer from the substrate to the dough. The dough can be used to reveal an image that was “hidden” within the visible image printed on the substrate. The present invention also provides methods for making a substrate with an image comprising transferable ink (e.g., cold-set web ink) and non-transferable ink (e.g., sheet-fed offset ink) printed thereon, comprising using a sheet-fed offset press to print the image onto the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2015Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: Crayola LLCInventors: David McClure, Keith Ketchman, Michael Craig

Patent number: 9346256Abstract: A method for producing printed products in a production plant, equipped with a digital printing press and at least one post-print processing machine arranged downstream of the digital printing press. The printed products are produced according to work orders for which the digital printing press prints on a print material web. The post-print processing machine processes the print material web into printed products. The production plant is converted for producing different printed products to be produced in a following work order, relative to a preceding work order. A time interval is initially determined for adjusting the post-print processing machine with the longest adjustment time. The post-print processing machine to be adjusted begins with the adjustment as soon as the last printed product of the preceding work order leaves this post-print processing machine.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2015Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: MUELLER MARTINI MARKETING AGInventors: Markus Bracher, Daniel Lutziger

Patent number: 9346259Abstract: A method for closed-loop or open-loop control of ink feed in lithographic offset printing presses having at least one inking unit, a control unit and an operating element for adjusting the ink feed across a predetermined ink feed control range, includes subdividing the predetermined control range into partial ranges in the control unit. At least one adjustment parameter of the inking unit or the printing press is assigned to each partial range in the control unit. The control unit determines the appropriate partial range as a function of the ink feed selected with the operating element and adjusts the selected ink feed in the inking unit with associated adjustment parameters in the inking unit and/or in the printing press.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2011Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Jürgen Michels, Dieter Schaffrath, Wolfgang Schönberger

Patent number: 9346260Abstract: A flexographic printing system uses a flexographic printing plate to produce printed patterns on a substrate. An ink recirculation system is used to reduce variability in system performance resulting from ink viscosity changes. A recirculation pump moves ink through an ink recirculation line connected to an ink reservoir. A metering pump adds a controlled flow rate of solvent from a solvent replenishment chamber into the ink recirculation line, thereby providing replenished ink which is returned to the ink reservoir. A control system is used to control the flow rate of solvent provided by the metering pump responsive to feature characteristics determined by analyzing a captured image of the printed pattern.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2014Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANYInventors: James Douglas Shifley, Peter Steven Alexandrovich, James Albert Reczek

Patent number: 9346261Abstract: A gas flow duct for use in redirecting drops of liquid ejected from a printhead in a continuous inkjet printer, including a sump, a first duct portion upstream of the sump, and a second duct portion downstream of the sump. The first duct portion rises from an entrance to an apex and then turns downward and exits into the sump, and the second duct portion rises from the sump toward an exit port. A cross-sectional area of the first duct portion is adapted to produce a gas flow velocity sufficient to transport entrained liquid through the first duct portion past the apex and into the sump. A cross-sectional area of the second duct portion is larger than the cross-sectional area of the first duct portion and is adapted to produce a gas flow velocity insufficient to transport entrained liquid through the second duct portion.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2015Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANYInventors: Michael J.
