Abstract: The present invention relates to antimicrobial compositions which can be used in food preservation. The compositions according to the invention are based on the lactoperoxidase system (LPS), and comprise very low concentrations of lactoperoxidase, glucose oxidase, thiocyanate, and optionally glucose. The invention further relates to the use of such compositions, in particular in synergistic combination with heat treatment, in food preservation, methods for food preservation, and food products comprising these compositions.

Abstract: A method of forming a carbon material from the stalk or roots of a plant of the Nicotiana species is provided herein, wherein the method includes i) receiving a tobacco material comprising at least one of a stalk material and a root material of a harvested plant of the Nicotiana species; and ii) pyrolyzing the tobacco material to remove volatiles and to form a tobacco-derived carbon material. Optionally, the method can further include activating the tobacco-derived carbon material. The tobacco-derived carbon material can be incorporated into a tobacco product. A carbon material derived from pyrolyzing a tobacco material in the form of at least one of a tobacco stalk material and a tobacco root material of a harvested plant of the Nicotiana species is also provided herein.

Abstract: There is provided a method of controlling aerosol production in an aerosol-generating device, the device comprising: a heater comprising at least one heating element configured to heat an aerosol-forming substrate; and a power source for providing power to the heating element, comprising the steps of: controlling the power provided to the heating element such that in a first phase power is provided such that the temperature of the heating element increases from an initial temperature to a first temperature, in a second phase power is provided such that the temperature of the heating element drops below the first temperature and in a third phase power is provided such that the temperature of the heating element increases again. Increasing the temperature of the heating element during a final phase of the heating process reduces or prevents the reduction in aerosol delivery over time.

In particular, described herein are methods for controlling the power applied to a resistive heater of a vaporization device by measuring the resistance of the resistive heater at discrete intervals. Changes in the resistance during heating may be used to control the power applied to heat the resistive heater during operation. Also described herein are vaporization devices that are configured to measure the resistance of the resistive heater during heating and to control the application of power to the resistive heater based on the resistance values.

In a particular aspect, a semi-rigid shapeable device includes a rear region that forms a substantially semi-circle shape having a first and second end. In another aspect, a method that facilitates forming a shirt collar support is provided, which includes shaping a semi-rigid shapeable device into a substantially semi-circle shape. A garment may include first and second tubular sleeves with a continuous front region extending between the sleeves and from a neck opening down to a torso opening, a continuous back region extending between the sleeves and from the neck opening down to the torso opening. Abstract: Techniques to determine depth for a number of wearable devices, which may be worn in layers are provided. A wearable device can receive measurements from sensors to include sensors from a number of other wearable devices. Based on the sensor measurements, the wearable device can determine a depth for the wearable devices. The depth can include an indication of which wearable device is closest to a user, which wearable device is closest to an external environment, or the like.

Abstract: A convertible garment and a method of converting a convertible garment is disclosed. A convertible garment includes a piece of fabric possessing a periphery, and a plurality of fasteners disposed on the piece of fabric along the periphery at substantially regular intervals. One of the plurality of fasteners is configured to fasten to each of the other fasteners to form armholes. The convertible garment is configured to adopt a first configuration in which the fasteners are not fastened to one another so that the convertible garment is wearable as a scarf. The convertible garment is configured to adopt a second configuration in which one of the plurality of fasteners is fastened to each of the other fasteners so that the convertible garment is wearable as a vest.

The protective garment also includes a grounding member providing a movable connection between the conductive body shield and a local ground plane. Various configurations of the basic garment are contemplated, including a hooded jacket, hooded raincoat, padded vest, rain poncho, and the like. In various embodiments, the grounding member is a strap-like tail attached to the electrical body shield at an upper end, and having a weighted lower end for maintaining a sliding contact with the ground. In other embodiments, the lower end is attached to a wearer's shoe.

The inner pants and outer shell are coupled together by the belt while the outer shell is movable relative to the inner pants.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure relate generally to protective clothing comprising one or more pockets operable to hold cushioning pads in strategic places on the clothing, such as knees, elbows, and shoulders, for example. Applicants propose an improved pocket opening design, comprising a first opening layer and a second opening layer offset from the first opening layer. The opening would not comprise any other fastening elements, such as Velcro, hooks, closures, zippers, etc. which may be easily damaged. The offset or distance between the two opening layers would allow for easy insertion of the cushioning pad, while also preventing a cushioning pad from accidentally coming out of the pocket. Additionally, the two layers would prevent dust from entering the pocket, when the opening is located on the exterior of the protective clothing.

In an embodiment, the foot glove has a leg portion, which is elastic to form a seal around the leg, a foot portion to enclose the foot, and a plurality of individual toe compartments. The second fiber is woven together with the first fiber and insulated from the first fiber. The brace also includes a selectively electrically activated cross-linking agent between the first and second fibers. The agent is constructed to cross-link in a first active mode when the first and second fibers are electrified and is constructed to not cross-link in a second inactive mode when the first and second fibers are not electrified. The brace surrounds a body part, such as a knee or neck. The agent can include an ER fluid and/or EAP. A brace system includes a selectively electrically activated brace for the part of the body.

Abstract: The present invention provides a protective mask comprising an ultrafine fibrous coating comprising partially gelled submicron fibers interweaved with nanofibers and a biocide encapsulated in, surface-attached onto, blended with, physically trapped, and/or chemically linked to said submicron fibers and nanofibers. In an example, a microfibrous substrate with the coating assembles with other microfibrous substrates to form a protective mask having N95 level of protection and bacteria-killing capability.

Abstract: A plate dispensing and supporting apron has a plate dispenser and support that can be stowed in a vertical configuration and released so that it extends horizontally in a deployed position. It can then support a plate with food, condiments, utensils, etc. The plate can be easily retained on the plate dispenser and support so that the wearer can cook, serve food, grill, etc. while having ready access to the materials on the plate dispenser and support. A horizontal pocket can be incorporated in the plate dispenser and support that can hold extra plates. A vertical pocket can be incorporated as well to hold additional items (such as utensils, napkins, etc.).

Abstract: A pocket system that integrates a bag and apparel, including a fabric storage compartment when in use as a bag, and a bag component storage compartment when in use as apparel, with a continuous compartment for storing items while as a bag, apparel and through conversion from bag to apparel and vice versa. When in a bag embodiment, the fabric of the apparel is drawn out of the fabric storage compartment, inverting said compartment, forming a new compartment into which the bag components are drawn and stored. When in apparel mode, the process is reversed to complete the transformation, i.e. the bag components are removed from the storage pocket, drawing the apparel material into the newly formed pocket.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a glove that includes discrete elements and component systems, such as, but not limited to, lights, electrical cautery, suction, and irrigation, attached to the surgical glove. The gloves produced by this method can be used as surgical gloves or for other industrial applications. In a particular application, the method includes providing a former comprising a hand-shaped portion and a first surgical system comprising a first surgical instrument, and a first switch for controlling the first surgical system. The former includes a first depression for receiving the first surgical system. The first depression is adapted to produce an interference fit with at least a portion of the first surgical system. The first surgical system can be loaded into the first depression and a polymer coating can be applied over the loaded former to form a surgical glove.

Abstract: Disclosed are a patch for sportswear, which is fixed on the surface of a T-shirt or team uniform, and a method of producing the same, wherein the patch includes a substrate layer, including a polyester fabric layer having a pattern, a colorless polyurethane base coating layer, and first, second and third polyurethane-mixed coating layers, which are sequentially formed; an anti-migration shielding layer, including a hot-melt adhesive sheet layer, a first primer coating layer, a first barrier coating layer, a second barrier coating layer and a second primer coating layer; and a double-sided adhesive layer for bonding the substrate layer and the shielding layer to each other, whereby the patch can be simply fixed on a finished sportswear product, does not migrate over time, and is not stripped even after washing at least 50 times, thus exhibiting high durability, and whereby environmentally friendly production of the patch is possible.
