Abstract: The invention provides a method of redistributing magnetically responsive beads in a droplet. The method may include conducting on a droplet operations surface one or more droplet operations using the droplet without removing the magnetically responsive beads from the region of the magnetic field. The droplet operations may in some cases be electrode-mediated. The droplet operations may redistribute and/or circulate the magnetically responsive beads within the droplet. In some cases, the droplet may include a sample droplet may include a target analyte. The redistributing of the magnetically responsive beads may cause target analyte to bind to the magnetically responsive beads. In some cases, the droplet may include unbound substances in a wash buffer. The redistributing of the magnetically responsive beads causes unbound substances to be freed from interstices of an aggregated set or subset of the magnetically responsive beads.

Abstract: A method is provided for continuously clarifying a flowable suspension with a discontinuously solid-discharging—self-discharging—separator, which has a rotatable drum with a vertical axis of rotation, a feed for the suspension to be clarified and at least one liquid discharge for continuously discharging at least one clarified liquid phase, and discontinuously openable solid-discharge openings for discontinuously discharging the solid phase. The method involves a) measuring one or more of the suspension parameters mass, mass of solid substance in the suspension, mass flow, temperature, density, cumulative density; and b) initiating a time-limited discharge of solid substance as a result of a repeated determination on the basis of step a) in the event of or after the exceeding of a limit value.

Abstract: An electrostatic coater capable of realizing high-level coating quality is provided. Shaping air SA, discharged from an air port, is directed radially outward. An elevation angle thereof preferably ranges from 10 to 20 degrees. Further, the shaping air SA is a flow in a state of being twisted in a direction opposite to the rotation direction R of a bell cup. The twisting angle about the axis O of the bell cup preferably ranges from 38 to 60 degrees. A liquid thread of paint extends radially outward from the outer peripheral edge of the bell cup, and the paint separated from the tip end thereof becomes a particle. It is preferable that the shaping air SA collides with the paint particle at a point P where the momentum of the paint particle is decreased of the paint particle is decreased.
