  • Patent number: 9458677
Abstract: A system and method is provided for the controlled entry of a tubing string, and cable adjacent thereto, into a wellbore. A stationary housing is fit to a wellhead and has a bore in communication with the wellbore. The cable can be laterally displaced from the bore into a cable access formed into the side wall of the stationary housing for fitting a sealing assembly to the bore and engages a sealing surface therein. The sealing assembly seals tubulars passing therethrough. The cable access interrupts the sealing surface. A cable bypass sub is fit to the cable access and permits the cable to extend sealingly from above the sealing surface to the wellbore wherein the cable bypasses the sealing assembly and sealing surface. A seal reconstitutes the interrupted portion of the sealing surface at the cable access.

  • Patent number: 9458679
Abstract: An apparatus and method for damping vibration, especially torsional vibration due to stick-slip, in a drill string, Sensors measure the instantaneous angular velocity of the drill string at one or more locations along the length of the drill string. One or more vibration damping modules are also spaced along the length of the drill string. When torsional vibration above a threshold is detected, the damping module imposes a reverse torque on the drill that dampens the torsional vibration. The reverse torque can be created by imparting a frictional resistance to the rotation of the drill string. The frictional resistance can be created externally, by extending friction pads from the damping module so that they contact the bore hole wall and drag along the bore hole as the drill string rotates, or internally by anchoring a housing mounted on the drill string to the wall of the bore hole and then imposing frictional resistance on a fluid, such as a magnetorheological fluid, flowing within the drill string.

  • Patent number: 9458706
Abstract: A submersible pump for oil wells that is attached to two strings of tubing that are run into a well. One is for injection of water down to the pump and the other is for producing oil from the well. The pump has a reciprocating piston that will suck in oil and discharge it at a higher pressure and push it up to the surface. This happens simply by pouring water at zero pressure into the injection tubing at the surface. This results in a hydrostatic pressure in the bottom that tubing. A directional switching control valve alternately directs the hydrostatic pressure to one side of a piston and then the other side of the piston in the pump thereby utilizing the energy with just the weight of the water to operate it. The directional switching valve first receives the hydrostatic pressure and diverts it to the pump chambers alternately. No pumping jack is needed no sucker rods are needed, no electricity is needed. There must be water available to be funneled into the tubing to cause it to pump.

  • Patent number: 9458712
Abstract: A stacked-ring, slow-wave acoustic telemetry isolation system and method for use with tubular assemblies such as drillpipe or production tubing comprising an acoustic wave transmitter, the acoustic isolator behaving such that a “down” wave propagated toward the isolator is reflected back substantially in phase with an “up” wave propagated from the acoustic wave source away from the isolator. The acoustic isolator is similarly effective in reflecting “up” propagating waves originating from below the isolator, hence further protecting the acoustic wave source from possible deleterious interference. It causes substantially all of the emitted wave energy to travel in a chosen direction along the drill pipe, thus aiding the efficiency of acoustic telemetry said pipe.

Abstract: A rotor assembly is mounted in each of an intake-compression chamber and an exhaust-power chamber of a rotary internal combustion engine. The rotor assembly includes a split rotor main body and at least three split blades, which all include a left and a right half. Each blade is turnably assembled to the rotor main body via a pivot shaft. The left and right half bodies are correspondingly provided on their joining faces with at least one recess each, and an elastic element is received in between two facing recesses to normally generate an outward push against the two half bodies while a sufficient looseness is always maintained between the rotor assembly and the cylinder wall to allow smooth rotation of the rotor assembly. Front tips and curved backs of the blades have rollers mounted thereto, so that the blades are in rotary contact with the cylinder wall with reduced friction.
