Abstract: A central computer system identifies a mobile item container in a retail shopping facility as being abandoned. The central computer system then directs a motorized transport unit through the retail shopping facility to the abandoned mobile item container and causes that motorized transport unit to physically attach to the abandoned mobile item container. The central computer system then directs that motorized transport unit through the retail shopping facility with the attached abandoned mobile item container to a specified destination within the retail shopping facility. Abandonment can be determined as a function, at least in part, of determining that the mobile item container is both stationary and unattended for at least a predetermined amount of time. By one approach the central computer system can use different predetermined amounts of time when assessing abandonment depending upon where in the retail shopping facility the mobile item containers are located.

Abstract: Some aspects of this disclosure include systems, methods, and/or computer programs that may be used to reduce power consumed to measure affective response of a user to content presented via a display of a head-mounted system such as an augmented reality system or a virtual reality system. In one embodiment, a controller selects a mode of operation for a sensor coupled to the head-mounted system based on a received indication. The mode of operation is selected from a set comprising first and second modes of operation, and the sensor is configured to consume significantly less power while operating at the first mode of operation compared to the power it is configured to consume while operating at the second mode of operation.

Abstract: In some implementations, a rack management controller can dynamically manage power supply units in a server rack system. For example, the rack management controller can determine how many power supply units should be powered on based on the power requirements of the server rack system. The management controller can configure a power management controller to turn on the determined number of power supply units. The rack management controller can receive status signals from the power supply units in the server rack. The rack management controller can detect when a power supply unit fails based on the status signals. The rack management controller can dynamically reconfigure the power management controller to replace the failed power supply unit by turning on a reserved power supply unit.

Abstract: A touch controller apparatus configured to sense a gesture performed on an electronic device is provided. The touch controller apparatus includes a touch controller, a system controller, an accelerator sensor, and a proximity sensor. The touch controller is configured to operate in a smart idle mode. The system controller, the accelerator sensor and the proximity sensor are configured to operate in a deep sleep mode. The gesture wakes up the touch controller, and the touch controller wakes up the system controller. The system controller wakes up the accelerator sensor and the proximity sensor to generate a sensing data. The system controller controls the electronic device to change from the smart idle mode to a normal mode according to the sensing data. Furthermore, a method for waking up an electronic device is also provided.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for power management of cache duplicate tags is disclosed. An IC includes a cache, a coherence circuit, and a duplicate tags memory that may store duplicates of the tags stored in the cache. The cache includes a number of ways that are separately and independently power controllable. The duplicate tags memory may be similarly organized, with portions that are power controllable separately and independently of others. The coherence circuit is also power controllable, and may be placed into a sleep mode when idle. The IC also includes a power management circuit. During operation, the cache may change power states and provide a corresponding indication to the power management circuit. Responsive to the indication, the power management circuit may awaken the coherence circuit if in a sleep state. The coherence circuit may then power manage the duplicate tags in accordance with the change in power state.
