The fuel tank includes a rear portion extending between the first portion and the second portion and facing in a rear direction transverse to the first and second directions. The airbag assembly is connected to the first portion, the second portion, and the rear portion of the fuel tank. During a vehicle impact, an inflatable member of the airbag assembly in an inflatable position may deflect impact debris away from the fuel tank and/or may prevent underbody components from coming contacting the fuel tank.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2015Publication date: February 9, 2017Applicant: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventors: Saeed David Barbat, Iskander Farooq, Dean M. Publication number: 20170036627Abstract: A method of mounting a bumper to the body structure of a motor vehicle using a locating member having an lamp-engagement portion for engaging a lamp, and a fixing portion. The fixing portion is movably coupled to the lamp-engagement portion. The method includes attaching the fixing portion to the body structure so that the locating member is movable relative to the body structure. The locating member is positioned such that the lamp engagement portion engages the lamp and the locating member is fixedly mounted to the body structure. The bumper is located in an aligned position in relation to the lamp using an alignment portion of the locating member. The bumper is then fixed in the aligned positioned.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2015Publication date: February 9, 2017Inventors: Craig MAWSTON, Phil HARRISON

Publication number: 20170036629Abstract: A vehicle side impact sensing assembly includes a side impact sensor installed on a center tunnel and a bracket, for mounting the sensor, arranged on an upper end portion of the tunnel. The sensor senses a side impact load acting sideways on a body. The bracket has a substantially M-shaped section, is a member put on the upper end portion of the tunnel and includes left and right vertical-plate-like legs and a horizontal-plate-like middle portion. T legs are overlaid on and joined to left and right side surfaces or an upper surface of the tunnel. The middle portion is lower than upper ends of the legs, and overlaid on and joined to the upper surface of the tunnel. Left and right mounting portions for mounting the side impact sensor are formed between the middle portion and the upper ends of the legs.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2016Publication date: February 9, 2017Inventor: Yuta ISHIZAKI

Publication number: 20170036630Abstract: The present invention discloses embodiments of an apparatus, system and related method for diagnosing initiators in air bag systems. An embodiment of the system comprises a diagnostic circuit electrically connected between acceleration switches and one or more squib, that is user-activated via a momentary switch, and with user-feedback, wherein a user can diagnose the health of the one or more squib with no power drain while inactive. An embodiment of a method related to the system comprises activating a momentary switch, completing a circuit whereby a diagnostic circuit may function, indicating to the user that the diagnostic circuit is functioning, regulating the current into the diagnostic circuit so that the squib does not fire, boosting the signal to a window comparator, detecting the desired voltage by the window comparator, giving feedback to the user that the voltage is good, too high, or too low.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 17, 2016Publication date: February 9, 2017Applicant: TAKATA PROTECTION SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Mario Schnetger, Ray Garcia, Craig William White, Ahad M. Publication number: 20170036631Abstract: A method for ascertaining an inner resistance of a supply network for supplying energy to an occupant protection system of a vehicle. The occupant protection system includes a charging unit connected to the supply network using a primary interface and to an energy buffer store using a secondary interface for the temporary storage of energy for activating occupant protection devices system and for supplying the system after being separated from the supply network. The method includes impressing a first charge current value at the secondary interface, and a first current/voltage at the primary interface during the impression. Further, a second, different, charge current value is impressed at the secondary interface. The method also includes determining a second current/voltage at the primary interface during the impression, and ascertaining the inner resistance of the supply network, using the detected first current and second current and/or the first voltage and the second voltage.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2015Publication date: February 9, 2017Inventors: Carsten List, Hartmut Schumacher
