  • Patent number: 9578279
Abstract: A system and method for generating preview data from video data and using the preview data to select portions of the video data or determine an order with which to upload the video data. The system may sample video data to generate sampled video data and may identify portions of the sampled video data having complexity metrics exceeding a threshold. The system may upload a first portion of the video data corresponding to the identified portions while omitting a second portion of the video data. The system may determine an order with which to upload portions of the video data based on a complexity of the video data. Therefore, portions of the video data that may require additional processing after being uploaded may be prioritized and uploaded first. As a result, a latency between the video data being uploaded and a video summarization being received is reduced.

  • Patent number: 9578280
Abstract: A progressive displaying terminal and a video playing method and an image processing apparatus thereof are provided. The video playing method includes: extracting an odd field and an even field of each frame of an interlaced video, where the interlaced video has an initial resolution higher than a screen resolution of a progressive displaying terminal, and scaling the odd field and the even field of each frame respectively and then playing the odd field and the even field of each frame. In this way, the present disclosure eliminates the need of de-interlacing when playing an interlaced video on a progressive displaying terminal, so the hardware configuration requirements and the cost are reduced and a good picture quality is ensured during playing of the video.

  • Patent number: 9578310
Abstract: Described herein is a method of calibrating a three-dimensional imaging system. During calibration, a position and an orientation of the three-dimensional imaging system is determined with respect to a first parameter comprising a real world vertical direction (Vw) and to a second parameter comprising an origin of a three-dimensional scene captured by the imaging system. The first and second parameters are used to derive a calibration matrix (MC2w) which is used to convert measurements from a virtual coordinate system (Mc) of the three-dimensional imaging system into a real coordinate system (Mw) related to the real world. The calibration matrix (MC2w) is used to rectify measurements prior to signal processing. An inverse calibration matrix (Mw2c) is also determined. Continuous monitoring and adjustment of the setup of the three-dimensional imaging system is carried out and the calibration matrix (Mc2w) and its inverse (Mw2c) are adjusted accordingly.

The method is simple and effective to utilize a small quantity of user interactions to successfully extract moving objects from stereo video which are same in time and as consistent as possible between left view and right view to develop multiple constraint conditions to guide the integration and deformation of parallax of moving object and dynamic scene and allow moving object to conform to the rules of perspective of dynamic scene. Moreover, the deformation result of moving object is smooth and consistent and can avoid effectively the occurrence of “dithering” phenomenon.

Abstract: In embodiments of imaging structure emitter calibration, an imaging unit includes an emitter structure that direct emits light, and optics direct the light along a light path in the imaging unit to illuminate a projection surface. A reflective panel reflects a portion of the light to illuminate a light sensor. An imaging application receives the sensor data from the light sensor, where the sensor data corresponds to emitted light output from the emitter structure. The imaging application can then initiate a calibration input to the emitter structure to adjust the emitted light output from the emitter structure.

Abstract: This invention is concerned with a video quality measurement method, in particular where the video signal having: an original form; an encoded form in which video signal has been encoded using a compression algorithm utilizing a variable quantizer step size such that the encoded signal includes a quantizer step size parameter; and, a decoded form in which the encoded video signal has been at least in part reconverted to the original form. The method comprises the steps of: a) generating a first quality measure which is a function of said quantizer step size parameter; b) generating a masking measure and c) combining the first and second measures. The masking measure is which is a function of the spatial complexity of parts of the frames represented by the video signal in the decoded form, these parts being selected by generating a second measure which is a function of the prediction residual and identifying one or more regions of the picture for which the second measure exceeds a threshold.

Abstract: Frames of a video data stream can be encoded using statistically-based spatially differentiated partitioning. Statistically-based spatially differentiated partitioning involves forming a difference frame between a current video frame and a temporally nearby video frame and then calculating the variance of the difference frame on a block-by-block basis. A histogram can be formed from the calculated variances and a threshold determined on the histogram. The determined threshold can be used to select parameters for the encoding process that will more efficiently encode static or slow-motion areas without a significant loss in resulting quality.
