Abstract: In one embodiment, a method stores extension logic for a business context for an application in a backend database system. The extension logic is stored with respect to a database table, business logic to handle transactions in the backend system, and an application programming interface to the application. A request for a custom field is received through a runtime version of the application, the custom field specifying a business context in which the custom field is associated. The method determines the extension logic associated with the business context in the backend database system. Further, the method uses the extension logic to extend the database table with the custom field, extend the business logic to handle transactions for the custom field in the backend system, and extend the application programming interface to the application. The custom field is extended during runtime of the application.

Abstract: A system and method for converting data sets. The method includes providing a data provider device (DPD) and a controller communicably coupled to one another. The controller or an interface device between the controller and the DPD includes a processor that is connected to a memory device which stores a data converter program. The memory device stores an earlier in time descriptive data set having an earlier data set format and a different later in time descriptive data set having a later data set format. The data converter program determines if a format associated with a received DPD data set is the later data set format. In response to determining that a data set format associated with the received DPD data set is the later data set format, the received DPD data set is converted into a converted data set that has the earlier data set format.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide an approach for protecting and restoring data within a networked (e.g. cloud) storage computing environment through asynchronous replication and remote backup of data and its associated metadata. Under embodiments of the present invention, data backup and recovery functionality provides data backups by detecting incremental updates to the data and its associated metadata at specific points in time determined by policies. The policies are configurable based on user requirements. Multiple copies of the data backups can be made and stored in separate compressed files at backup/disaster recovery locations. The backups of data and its associated metadata, which includes file system configuration information can be used to restore the state of a computer file system to that of a given point-in-time. Accordingly, a data protection approach is disclosed for protecting data at both the file system level and application level.

Abstract: One or more techniques and/or computing devices are provided for data object retention. For example, a data retention policy may specify that files of a volume are to be locked down for a lockdown retention period (e.g., locked into a read only state for 4 months) when such files are not changed within an auto commit time period (e.g., files not changed within 13 hours). Waiting for a data scanner to evaluate files for lockdown may result in files violating the data retention policy until the data scanner evaluates such files. Accordingly, a file may be considered to be in the locked down state (e.g., instantaneous lockdown), such that commands to modify or delete the file are blocked, based upon a difference between a current time of an internal compliance clock and a current value of a data object change field exceeding the auto commit time period.

Abstract: A data storage management system comprises enhanced capabilities for automatically discovering operational characteristics of data storage devices installed in the system. A user interface enables end-users to submit requests for storage resources ranging from a simple request for a certain amount of storage space to more complex requests that specify the type of storage technology, the manufacturer, the I/O speed of the storage device, etc. The end-user also may include an expiration timeframe for the requested storage space. The system identifies storage devices that are suitable to the end-user's request, automatically provisions the storage space (e.g., LUN), and assigns it to the requestor. The assigned storage space may automatically expire, based on user-requested or system-provided expiration timeframes. Expired storage space is returned to a logical pool of available resources so that it may be assigned in response to other requests.

Abstract: Row jumping is executed continuously at high speed, for sequentially presenting rows of records each having the same value being registered. Record numbers of a table are registered respectively in entries of SOS in an index, sorted by the values registered in the record, and data indicating a range of the entries in SOS is registered in ETRS, the range including record numbers of the records where the same value is registered. Rows of the record numbers where the value selected by a user is registered are determined as rows of target record numbers, referring to ETRS and SOS. Every time of forward jump operation, a row of the record number of the record to be presented is moved forward one row, among the rows of target record numbers.
