  • Patent number: 9593885
Abstract: An air-cooled heat exchange system includes a heat exchanger and an axial fan assembly. The heat exchanger has a heat exchange surface area. The axial fan assembly has a propeller-type impeller rotatably supported within an annular housing. The annular housing defines an air passageway from an air inlet end of the housing, across the impeller, and to an air outlet end of the housing. Rotation of the impeller within the annular housing causes air to flow into the air inlet end of the housing, along the air passageway, and out the air outlet of the housing. The axial fan assembly also has a wind-turning vane assembly extending beyond the air inlet end of the annular housing.

  • Patent number: 9593890
Abstract: A thermal control insert and a thermal resistant hollow block. The thermal resistant hollow block includes a hollow block having a cavity and an elongate member positioned within the cavity that has a generally spiral shaped pathway which forms a generally closed pathway to receive a heated fluid when the elongate member is positioned within the cavity of the hollow block. The generally spiral shaped pathway passes the heated fluid in a forward direction through the generally closed pathway toward a central open area at an inner end of the generally closed pathway of the elongate member. As fluid accumulates in the central open area, the fluid loses kinetic energy and becomes stagnant to provide a relatively high thermal resistance to heat transfer.

Abstract: A digital positioning system that interfaces with a portable weapon to automatically realign the weapon through and after a firing shock that saturates electronic components of the portable weapon. The digital positioning system includes a digital fire control device that receives target destination data. The digital fire control device transmits the target destination data to an automatic calibration and pointing device, which, in turn, generates a reference orientation from the target destination data. In response to the firing shock, the automatic calibration and pointing device acquires a current orientation of the portable weapon, independently of the saturated electronic components, and compares the current orientation to the stored reference orientation for causing a mechanical alignment and orientation mechanism to reposition the portable weapon.

  • Patent number: 9593924
Abstract: An explosive system for fracturing an underground geologic formation adjacent to a wellbore can comprise a plurality of explosive units comprising an explosive material contained within the casing, and detonation control modules electrically coupled to the plurality of explosive units and configured to cause a power pulse to be transmitted to at least one detonator of at least one of the plurality of explosive units for detonation of the explosive material. The explosive units are configured to be positioned within a wellbore in spaced apart positions relative to one another along a string with the detonation control modules positioned adjacent to the plurality of explosive units in the wellbore, such that the axial positions of the explosive units relative to the wellbore are at least partially based on geologic properties of the geologic formation adjacent the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 9593926
Abstract: A thread gauge inspection apparatus includes a receiving member to hold a reference thread gauge and a motor to bi-directionally rotate the reference thread gauge. A counter counts a number of turns the reference thread gauge is rotated by the motor, and a torque monitoring device monitors the torque produced by the motor as the reference thread gauge is rotated. A controller, when the monitored torque exceeds a predetermined value, causes the motor to stop rotating the reference thread gauge and causes the counter to stop counting the number of turns the reference thread gauge is rotated. The controller compares the count produced by the counter with an inputted specific turn count and indicates the thread quality of threaded hole or a threaded stud passed inspection when the count produced by the counter is equal to the inputted specific turn count.

  • Patent number: 9593927
Abstract: A method for providing dynamic state information for a coordinate measuring machine that includes a base, a probe head, a machine structure linking the probe head to the base and a drive mechanism that moves the probe head. A dynamic model with first state variables represents an actual state of physical properties of the coordinate measuring machine. The first state variables are provided in a database and the actual state of the coordinate measuring machine is determined using the dynamic model. The state variables are monitored and, based thereon, the change of the state variables is determined. Updated, second state variables are set regarding the determined change of the first state variables. The dynamic model is updated using the second state variables in place of the first state variables, wherein the actual state of the coordinate measuring machine is calculated based on the second state variables.

Abstract: A method for providing dynamic state information for a coordinate measuring machine that includes a base, a probe head, a machine structure with structural components linking the probe head to the base and a drive mechanism that moves the probe head relative to the base. A dynamic model is defined with actual state variables related to physical properties representing an actual state of the coordinate measuring machine. The actual state is derived by a calculation based on the dynamic model. A filtering process using the dynamic model includes deriving prediction variables based on the state variables that describe an expected proximate state of the coordinate measuring machine, measuring at least one of the state variables and determining observables, deriving successive state variables by comparing the prediction variables with the observables and updating the dynamic model using the successive state variables as the actual state variables.

  • Patent number: 9593930
Abstract: The present invention provides a probe apparatus and an associated method for measuring a magnetite deposit thickness, which apparatus and method is independent of the porosity and magnetic permeability of the magnetite deposit. The probe apparatus of this invention is an axial scanning and inside surface-following probe that can accurately and reliably measure the inside diameter of a tube. The probe apparatus of the present invention optionally comprises two modules: the first module is the surface-following module and the second module is a conventional eddy current probe.

  • Patent number: 9593931
Abstract: The thickness of a palladium coating on copper (or another substrate) is measured by passing a cathodic current through a predetermined area of the coating in contact with an electrolytic solution and measuring the potential as a function of time. Protons from the electrolytic solution are electrochemically reduced to palladium hydride at cathodic potentials less negative than required for evolution of hydrogen. As formation of the PdH0.58 beta-phase throughout the Pd coating is completed, the cathodic potential increases rapidly to a cathodic potential plateau corresponding to evolution of hydrogen gas on the PdH0.58 surface. This step in the cathodic potential provides an endpoint time for the measurement. The absolute thickness of the Pd coating is calculated from the integrated cathodic charge passed up to the endpoint time and the predetermined area of the coating in contact with the electrolytic solution.

  • Patent number: 9593932
Abstract: A capacitive sensor device includes a sensor electrode coupled to a first switch and coupleable either to a sensor operating voltage or to an evaluation circuit, configured as a power source circuit. A first current path is coupleable to the sensor electrode at an input end and to ground via a collector and emitter of a first transistor by an auxiliary resistor. A second current path is coupled to a reference potential at one end. A capacitor is coupled between the reference potential and a second transistor. A second auxiliary resistor is arranged in the second current path. The first transistor's base and collector are coupled to the base of the second transistor.
