  • Patent number: 9599254
Abstract: An apparatus for installation and protection of subsea cables comprises at least a first tubular member (1) and at least a second tubular member (2). Both these are arranged to be installed subsea with a subsea foundation (3). This allows passage of cable (29) through it. The first tubular member (1) is arranged telescopically within the second tubular member (2) so as to extract outwardly towards seabed (5) from an end portion (7), with respect to the second tubular member (2), only up to a prefixed length. This ensures that a continuous conduit for the cable is obtained through the scour protection of the foundation (3). The present invention also includes a methodology for installation of the apparatus and a method for installing a cable through the scour protection of the foundation, by using the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 9599258
Abstract: Mechanical pipe joints formed between first and second sections of metal pipe or tubing. A pin section on the end of the first pipe section has a cylindrical pin section and a formed pin section that provides the bottom contour of a tapered annular cavity and is coated with sealant. A socket on the end of the second pipe section has a cylindrical socket section and a tapered socket section that forms the remaining contour of the tapered annular cavity. The pin is hydraulically forced into the socket until the end of the formed pin section engages the tapered socket section. The cylindrical socket section of the socket has an inside diameter less than the outside diameter of the cylindrical pin section to form an interference fit that provides the strength of the joint. Sealant is extruded longitudinally and trapped in the tapered annular cavity to prevent leaking.

  • Patent number: 9599260
Abstract: A pipe coupling has an outer shell with a flexible inner liner therein. The liner is secured to the shell by a clamping arrangement, which uses inner rings at the ends of the shell and an inner ring intermediate of the ends. The inner rings are hydraulically expanded out to the shell to form a seal between the shell and the liner at the ends and to retain the liner to the shell at the intermediate ring. In use, compressed fluid is provided to cavities between the liner and the shell to force the liner to seal against a pipe joint. The intermediate inner ring prevents the intermediate portion of the liner from expanding into the pipe joint. A protective handle is provided.

  • Patent number: 9599292
Abstract: A light emitting module includes at least one LED mounted on a reflective base and surrounded by reflective walls to form a cavity. A partially diffusive layer containing a phosphor is mounted above the LED with a gap therebetween. Some of the light emitted by the phosphor is backscattered toward the LED, base, and walls. The LED absorbs a significant amount of the light, while the reflective base and walls efficiently reflect over 90% of the light back toward the phosphor layer for exiting the module. Various equations are provided that allow the designer to select an optimal gap between the LED and the partially diffusive layer to maximize light extraction efficiency out of the diffusive layer. The optimal gap range for maximizing light extraction efficiency is a product of LED largest linear length, LED surface area, base area, wall area, and reflective coefficients of the various elements.
