  • Patent number: 9607226
Abstract: Methods and systems for object detection using multiple sensors are described herein. In an example embodiment, a vehicle's computing device may receive sensor data frames indicative of an environment at different rates from multiple sensors. Based on a first frame from a first sensor indicative of the environment at a first time period and a portion of a first frame that corresponds to the first time period from a second sensor, the computing device may estimate parameters of objects in the vehicle's environment. The computing device may modify the parameters in response to receiving subsequent frames or subsequent portions of frame of sensor data from the sensors even if the frames arrive at the computing device out of order. The computing device may provide the parameters of the objects to systems of the vehicle for object detection and obstacle avoidance.

  • Patent number: 9607227
Abstract: A boundary detection apparatus includes an acquisition unit, an extraction unit and a detection unit. The acquisition unit acquires a disparity image based on information obtained by capturing an image of a peripheral environment of a vehicle. The extraction unit extracts predetermined pixel regions from first and second pixel regions of the disparity image based on a disparity gradient direction of the first pixel region and a disparity gradient direction of the second pixel region. The detection unit detects a boundary of a step surface existing alongside a road by joining together at least some of the predetermined pixel regions extracted by the extraction unit. The first and second pixel regions sandwich the predetermined pixel region. An angle formed by the disparity gradient direction of the first pixel region and the disparity gradient direction of the second pixel region is within a predetermined angular range of a right angle.

Abstract: A method includes adapting the universal generative model of local descriptors to a first camera to obtain a first camera-dependent generative model. The same universal generative model is also adapted to a second camera to obtain a second camera-dependent generative model. From a first image captured by the first camera, a first image-level descriptor is extracted, using the first camera-dependent generative model. From a second image captured by the second camera, a second image-level descriptor is extracted using the second camera-dependent generative model. A similarity is computed between the first image-level descriptor and the second image-level descriptor. Information is output, based on the computed similarity. The adaptation allows differences between the image-level descriptors to be shifted towards deviations in image content, rather than the imaging conditions.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for measuring articles contained within and/or dispensed from a receptacle. The present invention incorporates a counter device that measures the displacement of a conductive target relative to an LC circuit using an inductance-to-digital converter. In operation, a change in weight of articles in a receptacle will displace or deform a conductive target relative to the position of the LC circuit and, as such, it will create a measurable differential relating to inductance. Based on the measured differential, the number of articles (e.g., pills) within and/or taken from the receptacle is determined using a processor. In accordance with a further aspect, the counter is configured to compensate for a temperature-dependent variation in the measured electrical parameter algorithmically using the processor and/or through the particular configuration of the receptacle components.

  • Patent number: 9607264
Abstract: Techniques are described for determining and using information related to domains of interest, such as by automatically analyzing documents and other information related to a domain in order to automatically determine relationships between particular terms within the domain. Such automatically determined information may then be used to assist users in obtaining information from the domain that is of interest (e.g., documents with contents that are relevant to user-specified terms and/or to other terms that are determined to be sufficiently related to the user-specified terms). For example, recommendations may be automatically generated for a user by using information about specified preferences or other interests of the user with respect to one or more terms and identifying other particular terms that are sufficiently probable to be of interest to that user, such as based on a generated probabilistic representation of relationships between particular terms for the domain.

  • Patent number: 9607267
Abstract: Descriptive data relating to at least a subset of a plurality of entities on a website is retrieved over a network. Endorsement data relating to the plurality of entities is retrieved from the website. A first set of probabilities is determined reflecting a probability that endorsements can be attributed to specific aspects. A second set of probabilities is determined reflecting a probability that terms can be attributed to aspects. Using the first set of probabilities and the second set of probabilities, a subset of the terms that are most probably associated with each entity are selected. Tags are then generated for each entity using the selected terms.
