    Abstract: A new firefighting nozzle has a series of moveable vanes that extend inwardly from a peripheral wall of a base. The inner side of the vanes extends between ? and ? of the diameter of the central channel. The vanes rotate between a linear position, in which the vanes are generally parallel to the direction of the channel, and a vortex position, in which the vanes are significantly angled with respect to the direction of the channel. In the linear position, smooth bore linear flow is produced. In the vortex position, any of a range of fog patterns are produced. An externally mounted controller connects to the vanes and enables a firefighter to change the shape of the nozzle's spray without interrupting the flow. The controller and base have a series of pins that slide in a spiral groove and cause the shaper to move axially with respect to the base when the shaper is rotated about the base. Radial stems that ride in a circumferential slot translate that axial movement into rotation of the vanes.

    Abstract: A treatment method for stabilizing at least a portion of at least one heavy metal contained in a sodic fly ash to reduce leachability, wherein the sodic fly ash is provided by a process whereby a sodium-based sorbent is injected in a combustion flue gas to remove pollutants therefrom. The treatment method comprises contacting the sodic fly ash with at least one water-soluble source of silicate and at least one additive comprising calcium and/or magnesium. The material obtained from the contacting step is preferably dried. The additive may be selected from the group consisting of lime kiln dust, fine limestone, quicklime, hydrated lime, dolomitic lime, dolomite, selectively calcined dolomite, hydrated dolomite, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate, magnesium oxide, and any mixture thereof. A particularly preferred additive comprises lime kiln dust and/or dolomitic lime. The heavy metal to be stabilized in the sodic fly ash may comprise selenium and/or arsenic.

The frequency of oscillation is a known mathematical function of the bladder pressure. At least one pressure readout device is positioned externally to the football at the outside of the cover-liner. The pressure readout device wirelessly stimulates the pressure transducer device to oscillate. The pressure readout device reads the frequency of oscillation and calculates the value of the pressure. In another preferred embodiment, the value of the football's pressure is measured by physical contact with a Durometer. Both embodiments display the pressure to game officials locally; and transmit the value of the football's pressure to spectators remotely.

As the fan is kinetically decoupled from the rotor, the cooling system therefore operates independently of the speed of rotation of the main shaft of the motor.
