Abstract: Systems and methods for smoothing a lens are disclosed herein. A monomer used to make or augment the lens according to an additive method is deposited on the lens surface to be smoothed. A film or membrane with certain elastic properties is pressed against the layered (stepped) surface, with the monomer in between the lens and the membrane. The pressure of the membrane spreads the monomer over the surface of the lens, filling the spaces between the layered (stepped) surface and the membrane. A curing agent is applied to transition the monomer into a polymer coating matching the curve of the membrane. The membrane is removed, leaving a clean, smooth lens surface.

Abstract: An apparatus for vulcanizing a tire comprises: a side mold segment provided with a face for shaping the outer surface of a tire sidewall portion, and an opposite face not serving for shaping; and a heater part for vulcanizing the raw tire. The heater part is disposed adjacently to the side mold segment to heat the raw tire abutting on the side-shaping-face from the side of the face not serving for shaping. The side mold segment is provided with a flow path through which a first fluid whose temperature is lower than the vulcanization temperature of the raw tire can flow to prevent over-vulcanization of the sidewall portion.

A paper guide is connected to the frame for receiving and guiding the paper web intermediate the paper trough and the crumpling mechanism. The paper guide is spring biased to maintain the paper web in tension between the paper roll and the crumpling mechanism. The paper guide can be a spring biased, pivotally mounted guide bar. Alternatively, the paper guide can be a cantilevered sheet of springy material having a free end that engages the paper web.
