Abstract: Hydrodynamic bearings exploit the properties of pumping action in a fluid to support a bearing load. Conventionally, the pumping action is provided by grooved surfaces in a bearing surface of the bearing. The provision of grooves leads to functional and practical problems, though. The action of grooves on a lubrication material leads inevitably to shear stress being exerted in the fluid. This has a detrimental effect on the load performance of a hydrodynamic bearing. In practical terms, the accurate manufacture of grooves is onerous. This application discusses a way of producing a hydrodynamic bearing using a portion of a bearing surface with an interleaved pattern of materials, wherein the materials have alternate high and low (or zero) fluid slip characteristics. The varying fluid slip characteristic of the surface induces a pumping effect analogous to that provided by a grooved surface.

Abstract: A movement control apparatus for a heliostat device may include a step motor, a decelerating motor, a ball screw assembly, a nut, a connecting shaft, and a linear moving shaft. In one embodiment, the nut is movably connected with the ball screw assembly and is secured on a first connecting board and a second connecting board through the connecting shaft. The nut is driven by the ball screw assembly to travel along the screw shaft and since the nut is connected to the connecting boards through the connecting shaft, and the connecting boards are connected to the moving shaft, the movement of the nut can further drive the connecting shaft to rotate to drive the moving shaft to move in a linear manner on the sliding rail to rotate a mirror assembly of the heliostat around a post.

Abstract: An electric actuator to be primarily used on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) having implements such as snow plow is disclosed. The main purpose of the actuator is to allow the driver to rotate the blade when it is not touching the ground without having to get out of the vehicle. The actuator is composed of a stator assembly and a motor assembly. An electric motor is concealed in the motor assembly and drives a screwed or grooved part that engages the threaded or grooved inner surface of the stator assembly. Rotation of the screwed or grooved part induces a translational movement alongside the longitudinal axis of the actuator assembly. The translation movement induces the elongation or the retraction of the actuator depending on the rotating direction of the electric motor.

Abstract: An infinitely variable transmission (IVT) includes a double planetary gearset with first, second, and third transmission components. The IVT includes a single planetary gearset with fourth, fifth, and sixth transmission components. In one mode, a first set of clutches is engaged, allowing transmission of engine power to the first transmission component, and allowing transmission of IVP power between a second IVP machine and the second transmission component. The third transmission component combines the engine power and the IVP power into first combined power that is transmitted from the third transmission component to the fourth transmission component. The fifth transmission component transmits return power to an engine shaft, and the sixth transmission component combines the first combined power and the return power into second combined power that is output to an output shaft for rotating the output shaft at a range of rotational speeds.

Accordingly, when welding the input member and the carrier supporting a planetary gear, a degree of freedom of processing and welding workability are improved and the differential device is reduced in size. Moreover, grinding and finishing of a welding bead are unnecessary, and therefore manufacturing cost is suppressed.
