Abstract: An adaptive lighting system for an automotive vehicle. The adaptive lighting system has a wavelength conversion device for receiving the light radiation (L) from the primary source and re-emitting white light radiation (B). An optical imaging system receives the white light (B) re-emitted by the wavelength conversion device and projects this light (B) in front of the vehicle to form a lighting beam, the wavelength conversion device being situated close to a focal plane of the optical imaging system, and the scanning system and the optical system being situated on the same side of the wavelength conversion device. An intensity of the white light radiation (B) emitted by the wavelength conversion device is capable of being modulated between a minimum value and a maximum value, and the scanning is performed at variable speed.

  • Patent number: 9677738
Abstract: An optical device for transforming an input light distribution from an LED light source to provide an omni-directional output light distribution for solid-state lighting is disclosed. The optical device has a conical form, comprising first and second coaxial cones of different refractive index, defined by coaxial inner and outer cone surfaces, which converge from a cone base to a rounded tip at the apex. Preferably, each of the inner and outer cone surfaces comprises a plurality of conical facets defining a grating structure. The inner cone, i.e. air cavity, is directly coupled to an LED emitter area. Cone angles and spacings of conical facets, defining inner and outer gratings, are tailored to reshape a predetermined input light distribution. Apertures assist in heat dissipation. A lightweight, compact device with high transmission efficiency can be manufactured at low cost by one-step injection molding from an optical-grade polymer, such as PMMA.

Abstract: To provide a user with descriptive images for each function performed by a button, the embodiments described herein use a transforming graphical expression that presents different images depending on the particular function the button is currently performing. For example, if the button is used to increase speaker volume, the graphical expression may display plus sign, but if the button is currently being used to navigate through a display menu, the graphical expression may be transformed into an arrow to indicate the direction a selection element in the menu moves if the button is activated. Thus, as the current function of the button changes, the graphical expression presented to the user also changes. In this manner, the same button may be used to perform multiple functions while presenting to a user a customized graphical expression indicating the current function of the button.

  • Patent number: 9677741
Abstract: Transparent displays enable many useful applications, including heads-up displays for cars and aircraft as well as displays on eyeglasses and glass windows. Unfortunately, transparent displays made of organic light-emitting diodes are typically expensive and opaque. Heads-up displays often require fixed light sources and have limited viewing angles. And transparent displays that use frequency conversion are typically energy inefficient. Conversely, the present transparent displays operate by scattering visible light from resonant nanoparticles with narrowband scattering cross sections and small absorption cross sections. More specifically, projecting an image onto a transparent screen doped with nanoparticles that selectively scatter light at the image wavelength(s) yields an image on the screen visible to an observer. Because the nanoparticles scatter light at only certain wavelengths, the screen is practically transparent under ambient light.
