  • Patent number: 9679156
Abstract: Aspects of the subject matter described herein relate database virtualization. In aspects, clusters of database servers may be located at various locations of the Internet. When a client seeks to access a logical database, the client may send a logical server and logical database name in a data structure. These names may be used to find a physical server(s) and database(s) that correspond to the logical database. Once the location is determined, a proxy component is used to intercept and/or forward communications between the client and the physical server(s) and database(s) corresponding to the logical database. Using this system, a client may access data from a logical database without knowing the physical address of the logical user database.

  • Patent number: 9679171
Abstract: RF tags using source addresses to locate stations on a Wi-Fi network are secured. An RF location server receives a pseudo source address of an RF (radio frequency) tag from a station. The station obtains the pseudo source address while being within radio range of the RF tag and the station receiving a beacon frame from the RF tag. A source address for the RF tag is looked-up utilizing the pseudo source address, and a specific location for the RF tag is looked-up utilizing the source address. Some embodiments store the locations in association with the pseudo address. Either way, the specific location of the station is identified based on the source address of the RF tag. An action is determined in response to at least the specific location of the station. Information related to the action is sent to the station for output to a user of the station. For example, a location-based offer or service can be provided in real-time with a consumer's presence to relevant products or services.

A face portion of a person depicted in a portrait photo is detected and a 3-Dimensional model of the person depicted in the portrait photo constructed. In one embodiment, constructing the 3-Dimensional model involves fitting hair portions of the portrait photo to one or more helices. In another embodiment, constructing the 3-Dimensional model involves applying positional and normal boundary conditions determined based on one or more relationships between face portion shape and hair portion shape. In yet another embodiment, constructing the 3-Dimensional model involves using shape from shading to capture fine-scale details in a form of surface normals, the shape from shading based on an adaptive albedo model and/or a lighting condition estimated based on shape fitting the face portion.

Abstract: A method of capturing biometric data is provided that includes activating a security application in a device. The security application is activated by an operator of the device and is configured to cause the device to display an outline image. Moreover, the method includes displaying the outline image in a stationary position on a display of the device, positioning desired biometric data proximate the device such that the desired biometric data appears as a biometric image on the device display, and monitoring the outline and biometric images shown on the device display. Furthermore, the method includes positioning the device and the desired biometric data to better align the outline and biometric images when the outline and biometric images do not align and capturing the desired biometric data from an individual after approximately aligning the outline image with the biometric image.

Abstract: Methods for obfuscating an image of a subject in a captured media are disclosed. For example, a method receives a communication from an endpoint device of a subject indicating that the image of the subject is to be obfuscated in a captured media. The communication may include a feature set associated with the subject, where the feature set contains facial features of the subject and motion information associated with the subject. The method then detects the image of the subject in the captured media. For example, the image of the subject is detected by matching the facial features of the subject to the image of the subject in the captured media and matching the motion information associated with the subject to a trajectory of the image of the subject in the captured media. The method then obfuscates the image of the subject in the captured media.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method, computer program product, and system for a computer implemented method for processing tabular data. In various embodiments, an electronic document is received through a network, along with associated metadata. A plurality of table markers, or tabular data markers, are identified, in response to analyzing the received electronic document for said markers. References and citations associated with the plurality of tabular data markers are identified. A graphical representation of the relationship between identified tabular data markers and the identified references is generated. A uniqueness score is calculated, based on the generated graph and an ingestion plan is generated for the received electronic documents based on the calculated uniqueness score value.

Abstract: The cross-modal sensor fusion technique described herein tracks mobile devices and the users carrying them. The technique matches motion features from sensors on a mobile device to image motion features obtained from images of the device. For example, the acceleration of a mobile device, as measured by an onboard internal measurement unit, is compared to similar acceleration observed in the color and depth images of a depth camera. The technique does not require a model of the appearance of either the user or the device, nor in many cases a direct line of sight to the device. The technique can operate in real time and can be applied to a wide variety of ubiquitous computing scenarios.

  • Patent number: 9679200
Abstract: In queues, persons—or objects (120) in general—move inside an area (110) to a target (112), such as to a counter. The queue has movement characteristics in terms of speed, waiting times and queue form. A computer-implemented approach obtains the characteristics by receiving a sequence (140) of image frames (141, 142, 143, 49) that represent the surveillance area (110); calculating flow vectors that indicate an optical displacement for the sequence (140) of image frames (141/142, 142/143); extending one of the flow vectors as lead vector in extension directions; determining intermediate vectors by using flow vectors along the extension directions; and selecting one the intermediate vectors as the new lead vector. The steps are repeated to concatenate the lead vectors to the movement characteristics (190).
