  • Patent number: 9681924
Abstract: A three-pin skull clamp, including a U-shaped frame defined by an interconnectable base piece with a slot that receives the ratchet arm of a ratchet piece, also includes a plate movably connected to the base piece, thereby to permit inspection and cleaning of the slot which receives the ratchet arm. To increase the adjustability of the ratchet piece relative to the base piece, the base piece includes at least two pawls with offset engagement teeth, preferably with the offset equal to half the pitch of ratchet teeth located along the ratchet arm. This feature facilitates positioning of the skull clamp relative to a patient, and is particularly beneficial for radiolucent skull clamps.

  • Patent number: 9681925
Abstract: A system and method for instrument placement using an image based navigation system is disclosed. A target of interest is identified in a medical image of a patient. An image plane is displayed that goes through a center of the target. The image plane has a configurable orientation. The image plane is used to select a path for an instrument from a position on the patient's skin to the center of the target. A trajectory plane is viewed from a tip of the instrument to the center of the target. The trajectory plane reflects an orientation of the instrument. A particular trajectory plane is selected that is representative of a desired orientation of the instrument. An image of the particular trajectory plane is frozen. The instrument can then be inserted using a virtual guide and is navigated toward the target.

  • Patent number: 9681945
Abstract: A Double Accommodating Intraocular Lens (DAIOL), which not only axially moves its flexible optic to accommodate, but also peripherally compresses or decompresses the optic to change its convexity or power, thus, double accommodating simultaneously upon contraction or expansion of the ciliary muscles and subsequently the lens capsule. The DAIOL includes a deployable semi-rigid or elastic haptic assembly and a flexible single optic. The DAIOL is further composed of three or four ring haptics and three or four deployable resilient lazy tongs, attached to a single elastically flexible plate encompassing a flexible optic. Accordingly, the radial compression of the capsular bag by the contraction of the ciliary muscles axially moves and radially compresses the flexible optic in the lens and vice versa upon radial expansion of the capsular bag, backward axial movement, and decompression of the optic, due to the resilient lazy tongs action, for double accommodation.

The secondary component may be manipulated, removed, and/or exchanged for a different secondary component for correction or modification of the optical result, on an intra-operative or post-operative basis, without the need to remove the primary component and without the need to manipulate the capsular bag. The primary component may have haptics extending therefrom for centration in the capsular bag, and the secondary component may exclude haptics, relying instead on attachment to the primary component for stability. Such attachment may include actuatable interlocking members.

Abstract: The socket system includes a socket and a vacuum liner. A one-way valve is positioned within the closed distal end of the socket and provides controlled fluid communication between the interior socket space and an external environment. The closed distal end of the vacuum liner includes a distal portion formed of a higher durometer elastomeric material than the surrounding portions of the liner, and including a concave section extending from an external surface thereof towards the interior liner space. The socket, on the interior of the closed distal end thereof, includes a receiving portion that corresponds to and receives the distal portion of the vacuum liner (e.g. matching the perimeter and depth of the distal portion). The receiving portion includes a bottom surface (e.g. a flat surface) opposite to the concave section of the vacuum liner when received therein, and defining an exterior liner space therewith.

  • Patent number: 9681969
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for delivering a stent to a lumen internal to a body of a patient and for sheathing a stent just prior to an insertion procedure. One embodiment comprises a delivery device having a partially sheathed configuration, a fully sheathed delivery configuration, and a deployed configuration. A panchor (combination pusher and anchor) is configured to engage and limit proximal and distal movement of the implantable device. An outer sheath surrounds a distal portion of an inner member and retains the implantable device near the distal end. The outer sheath is slidably moveable relative to the inner member to deploy the implantable device. Proximal movement of a trigger results in movement of the outer sheath to deploy the implantable device. A sheathing mechanism is configured to crimp and fully sheathe the implantable device prior to a deployment procedure.
