  • Patent number: 9718221
Abstract: Cured flexible sealant may be removed from a substrate if the cured flexible sealant includes within its volume a susceptor such as metal susceptor particles. Removal proceeds by exposing the sealant with the susceptor to radio-frequency radiation sufficient to cause dielectric heating in the susceptor. The consequent heating in the cured sealant reduces the bond strength of the cured sealant. The reduced bond-strength sealant may be removed by physical methods, such as scraping etc., much more easily than the original (unexposed) cured sealant. Also disclosed are sealant compositions with susceptor, susceptor tools to introduce susceptor into cured sealant, and handheld radio-frequency heaters to apply radio-frequency radiation to cured sealant.

  • Patent number: 9718226
Abstract: A method for an injection molded product having a molten resin containing an aluminum pigment. The injection mold includes resin reservoirs connected to both sides of a cavity, positioned where the molten resin meets as it partly flows therein. The cavity has a design surface of an injection-molded product and both side surfaces continuing from the surface forming the design surface. One of the resin reservoirs is connected to one of the side surfaces and the other resin reservoir is connected to the other side surface, across the position where the molten resin meets. When the molten resin partly flows into the resin reservoirs, flow of the molten resin, which is substantially in parallel from the surface forming the design surface to the resin reservoirs, is generated and aluminum pigment makes an orientation angle of 120° to 140° on the design surface at the position where the molten resin meets.

  • Patent number: 9718258
Abstract: A film that contains a core layer positioned adjacent to an outer layer is provided. The core layer contains a relatively high percentage of thermoplastic biopolymers that are both biodegradable and renewable. Despite being biodegradable and renewable, many biopolymers tend to be relatively stiff in nature. The present inventors have discovered, however, that through selective control over the components in the core and outer layers, a film can be readily formed having good mechanical properties. Among other things, this is accomplished by blending the biopolymer in the core layer with a polyolefin. A polyolefin is also employed in the outer layer. In addition to providing functionality to the film (e.g., heat sealing, printing, etc.), the polyolefin-containing outer layer also helps counteract the stiffness of the biopolymer in the core layer, and helps improve processability, stiffness, and ductility.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for electroforming metal screen. The method deposits photoresist over a mandrel, and then exposes the photoresist with light through a plurality of openings in a photo tool to form hardened resist pillars. Unexposed photoresist is removed without affecting the resist pillars. The method then electroforms the metal screen in areas free of the hardened resist pillars such that the metal screen forms apertures defined by each of the resist pillars, a space between at least two of the resist pillars defining a support bar that forms at a reduced thickness as compared to portions of the metal screen that are not between the resist pillars. Finally, the method detaches the metal screen from the mandrel.
