Abstract: A tracking system that tracks persons and/or objects of interest without the need for triangulation techniques is disclosed. The tracking system utilizes very low power active radio frequency tags with limited effective broadcast range that operate only in the transmit mode with no need to establish two-way communication with any part of the system. The person or object of interest is provided with a radio frequency tag incorporating a unique identifier. Gateways connected to a common network interface are positioned relative to specific areas within the facility to be monitored. A computer connected to the same network as the gateways analyzes data relating to the strength of the of the radio frequency signals received by the radio frequency receivers from the radio frequency tags to determine if, and when, persons and/or objects of interest are present within particular subareas within the facility.

Abstract: Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) has become a prime tool for studying the distribution of biomolecules in tissue. Although IMS data sets can become very large, computational methods have made it practically feasible to search these experiments for relevant findings. However, these methods lack access to an important source of information that many human interpretations rely upon: anatomical insight. In this work, this need is addressed by (1) integrating a curated anatomical data source with an empirically acquired IMS data source, establishing an algorithm-accessible link between them; and (2) demonstrating the potential of such an IMS-anatomical atlas link by applying it toward automated anatomical interpretation of ion distributions in tissue.

Abstract: Motion capture system with a motion capture element that uses two or more sensors to measure a single physical quantity, for example to obtain both wide measurement range and high measurement precision. For example, a system may combine a low-range, high precision accelerometer having a range of ?24 g to +24 g with a high-range accelerometer having a range of ?400 g to +400 g. Data from the multiple sensors is transmitted to a computer that combines the individual sensor estimates into a single estimate for the physical quantity. Various methods may be used to combine individual estimates into a combined estimate, including for example weighting individual estimates by the inverse of the measurement variance of each sensor. Data may be extrapolated beyond the measurement range of a low-range sensor, using polynomial curves for example, and combined with data from a high-range sensor to form a combined estimate.

Abstract: Aspects of the technology described herein detect visible abnormalities within a webpage or other document. The technology improves computing accuracy by identifying data and/or programing errors that cause the abnormalities. The abnormalities are detected through image analysis of portions of a document. Initially, a portion of a webpage associated with a particular feature is identified and then converted to a digital image. The digital image can capture the website as it would appear to a user viewing the website, for example, in a web browser application. The image is then analyzed against an established feature-pattern for the feature to determine whether the image falls outside of a normal range. When the image of a portion of the webpage falls outside of the normal range, a notification can be communicated to a person associated with the webpage, such as a system administrator.

Abstract: Robust low-level image features have been proven to be effective representations for a variety of visual recognition tasks such as object recognition and scene classification; but pixels, or even local image patches, carry little semantic meanings. For high-level visual tasks, such low-level image representations are potentially not enough. The present invention provides a high-level image representation where an image is represented as a scale-invariant response map of a large number of pre-trained generic object detectors, blind to the testing dataset or visual task. Leveraging on this representation, superior performances on high-level visual recognition tasks are achieved with relatively classifiers such as logistic regression and linear SVM classifiers.

Abstract: A wearable apparatus is provided for capturing and processing images from an environment of a user. In one implementation, a system for facilitating collaboration between individuals includes a transceiver and at least one processing device. The at least one processing device is programmed to obtain and analyze one or more images captured by an image sensor included in a wearable apparatus. The at least one processing device is further programmed to detect, by the analysis, a visual trigger in an environment of a wearer of the wearable apparatus. The visual trigger may be associated with a collaborative action to be taken. The at least one processing device may be further programmed to use the transceiver to transmit an indicator relating to the visual trigger associated with the collaborative action to be taken.

Abstract: The presentation style of a video is identified. A set of features that represents the video is computed. A pre-learned video presentation style classifier is then used to weight each of the features in the set of features and determine a presentation style that is predominately employed in the video based on the weighting of the features.

Abstract: The object detection device 1 detects an object being recognized (such as a pedestrian) in a frame image 42, and identifies an area 42a where a detected object which is detected in the frame image 42 is present. A frame image 43 is input after the frame image 42. The object detection device 1 detects the object being recognized in the frame image 43, and identifies an area 43a where a detected object which is detected in the frame image 43 is present. When a distance from center coordinates 42b of the area 42a to center coordinates 43b of the area 43a is smaller than a reference distance, the object detection device 1 determines that the detected object which is detected in the frame image 43 is identical to the detected object which is detected in the frame image 42.

The video clip repository may allow users to browse and view video clips in the repository. A supercut creation tool may operate to identify, based on comparison of search criteria received from a user to the set of tags, video clips, from the set of video clips, that are relevant to the search criteria; determine, based on scores of the video clips, an ordering of the video clips; and generate a supercut of the video clips as a single video corresponding to the video clips and arranged in the determined order.

One method includes detecting, by the doorbell camera, that a person is located within a distance threshold to an entry of a structure based on received sensor data; identifying, by the doorbell camera, a suggested security action for the security and automation system to perform based on the detecting; transmitting the suggested action to the security and automation system based on the identifying; and broadcasting, via the doorbell camera, in response to the transmitting a message to the person located within the distance threshold.

Abstract: A system and method for verifying detection of partially occluded objects (e.g., pedestrians) in the vicinity of a vehicle. An image input device captures an image and/or video of surroundings. An object detector detects partially occluded pedestrians and other objects in received image information. The detection of a partially occluded pedestrian is verified when a detection window of the partially occluded pedestrian overlaps with a detection window of an occluding object, and the occluding object window is closer to the image input device than the partially occluded object window. Optionally, a range-finding sensor, such as a LIDAR device, determines a range to objects located in the direction of the partially occluded object. The detection of the partially occluded object is verified when the range of one of the other objects located in the direction of the partially occluded object is less than that of the partially occluded object.

Abstract: The present invention is generally directed to methods and systems of estimating visibility around a vehicle and automatically configuring one or more systems in response to the visibility level. The visibility level can be estimated by comparing two images of the vehicle's surroundings, each taken from a different perspective. Distance of objects in the images can be estimated based on the disparity between the two images, and the visibility level (e.g., a distance) can be estimated based on the farthest object that is visible in the images.
