Abstract: The invention relates to a planning system and method for operating one or more road milling machines. In that context, material properties of a road are captured and are geographically associated with one or more roads or road segments. Based on the material properties, an expected milling output of a road milling machine is ascertained, in the context of carrying out milling tasks on the road, or an expected wear on the milling tools. An optimized sequence of milling tasks to be carried out is created on the basis of those data. Accordingly, the invention may enable optimized deployment of the one or more road milling machines and of resources necessary for carrying out the road milling tasks. Aspects of the planning system may be remotely implemented for centralized application with respect to each of the road milling machines, or locally implemented for individual road milling machines.

Abstract: High-density bales for erosion control or for forming a flood barrier are made by the compaction of tree leave material. The bales are made substantially from tree leave material that retains at least a portion of the vein structure. The vein structure improves the structurally integrity of the bale. A baler may be used to form the bale and it may compact the leave material up to an 8:1 compaction ratio, forming bales with a density of 0.3 to 0.8g/cc or more. The bales may have a retainer wire or mesh configured around a portion of the bale to retain the bale shape. The bales may contain seeds for growing plants directly from the bales as the leave material degrades to provide the nutrients for plant growth. This plant growth from the bale provides an aesthetically appealing bale that blends into the natural environment.

Abstract: A submergible marine barrier protecting marine installations in a protected zone against intrusion and providing a containment barrier against spread of floating spills or bodies. The body of the barrier is supported above water by a main body thus preventing intrusion and containing floating spillage. A weight in main body keeps the barrier upright, and a rigid floatation chamber in the main body keeps it afloat when full of air. A skimming pipe collects floating pollution. Flooding the floatation chambers causes the barrier to submerge allowing access to the protected zone and protecting the barrier from storms. Body, main body, and floatation chambers are made of extruded material with flotation properties (e.g. plastic pipes). Floatation chambers are connected by air hoses and have air venting tubes at their bottom. Sensors detect approaching intruders and pollution, while spikes, barbed-wire and diver-net or any known barrier are used to stop them.

Abstract: A system for preventing overflow of a toilet includes a sensor, a processor and an actuator. The sensor senses a parameter caused by fluid dynamics within the toilet during a flush cycle. The parameter may involve vibration, sound, pressure, fluid flow rate or other detectible characteristics of the toilet. The processor uses information regarding the parameter that is gathered by the sensor to evaluate the condition of the flush cycle to determine if an impeded flush condition exists. In the event of an impeded flush condition, the processor directs the actuator to close a valve, which may be the toilet flapper valve in some embodiments. Also disclosed are methods for preventing toilet overflow, detecting an impeded flush condition and calibrating the system.
