In certain example embodiments, a VIG assembly is inserted into a multi-chamber apparatus to successively reduce the chamber pressure and thus the pressure between substrates comprising the VIG assembly until a final evacuation pressure is reached. Once the final evacuation pressure is reached, a pump-out port or tube of the VIG assembly is sealed forming a VIG unit while the VIG assembly is still in the vacuum chamber. After sealing, chamber pressures are gradually increased to atmospheric while the gap between the substrates of the VIG unit remains at a pressure less than atmospheric which is close to the final evacuation pressure.

Abstract: A tool includes a housing between an outer wall and an inner wall that surrounds a longitudinal tool bore. First and second axially spaced ports connect the housing to the tool bore. An unlocking piston seals across the first port and an arming sleeve seats across the second port. A locking ring is held in place by a retaining ring and prevents the arming sleeve from sliding towards the unlocking piston to open the second port. An unlocking tool bore pressure at the first port moves the unlocking piston axially to displace the retaining ring and unlock the tool. A lower, arming tool bore pressure moves the arming sleeve in the unlocked tool to open the second port and arms the tool. An actuating tool bore pressure, which is less that the unlocking pressure, actuates a valve piston via the open second port.

Abstract: An operating control line is in communication with an operating piston for the safety valve as well as an equalizing piston such that pressure in the operating control line opens the safety valve and holds the equalizer valve closed. A balance chamber receives fluid from an operating piston in the safety valve when the valve opens to displace a floating piston to the open position. Operating control line pressure reduction allows valve closure and opposite floating piston movement to the closed position. If the floating piston is forced by a tubing seal leak against the open position travel stop, pressure in a balance control line against the equalizing valve member moves it from a seat to then equalize pressure on opposed ends of the floating piston allowing a bias force to move the floating piston off the open position stop so the safety valve can open despite the tubing leak.

Abstract: A method for enhancing the recovery of hydrocarbon deposit includes the step of sensing a material property of an underground volume. A three-dimensional map identifying the spatial variation in the sensed material property of the underground volume is generated. Propagating electromagnetic radiation is transmitted in the volume based on the map. The propagating electromagnetic radiation transmission is varied in at least one of frequency, polarization, wavelength, frequency, amplitude, mode, and phase in response to the variation in the material property of a region within the volume to which the propagating electromagnetic radiation is directed. Accordingly, the volume is heated in a spatially varying manner to heat material in the volume and thereby induce the flow of hydrocarbon deposits from the volume.
