Patent number: 9808716Abstract: A method of providing input to a program, such as a video game, that expects input from a mouse and keyboard is disclosed. A plurality of large virtual cells are created on a display, each cell corresponding either to a smaller graphical button displayed by the program or to one or more keystrokes that the program will accept as input. A controller capable of moving the cursor is used to move the cursor onto a virtual cell, and a controller button pressed. An instruction is sent to the program, in the format the program expects, to perform the command corresponding to the user's action. The large virtual cells allow a user to select a command rapidly using various controllers without having to locate the cursor on the small graphical buttons of the program, and are thus well suited to large displays located at some distance from a user.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2017Date of Patent: November 7, 2017Assignee: Sixense Entertainment, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey J. Patent number: 9808753Abstract: Systems and methods for automated fabrication of pleated filters that promote user-selected adjustment of the pleat spacing generated by the system. A lower conveyor of a pleat spacing station is operated at a selected conveyor rate. A gathered pleated segment of filter material is received at the pleat spacing station. The pleat spacing station expands a pleat spacing of the gathered pleated segment in forming a pleated filter segment. Expansion of the pleats at the pleat spacing station is accomplished by initially engaging the filter material along the lower conveyor, with the conveyor rate being alterable by a user, including on the fly alteration, to establish a desired pleat spacing and thus pleat density in the pleated filter.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2014Date of Patent: November 7, 2017Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Jonathan M. Patent number: 9808757Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a carbon-dioxide (“CO2”) sequestration system comprising a CO2 source, a process-water source, a membrane module, and a sequestration duct. The membrane module comprises a first section, a second section, and a membrane. The first section can be configured to receive gaseous CO2 at a first pressure from the CO2 source. The second section can be configured to receive process-water at a second pressure from the process-water source, wherein the first pressure is greater than the second pressure. The membrane can be positioned between the first section and the second section and can comprise a plurality of apertures configured such that the gaseous CO2 passes through the plurality of apertures and dissolves into the process-water to form a process-water-CO2-solution. The sequestration duct can be in fluid communication with the second section and configured to transport the process-water-CO2 solution to a sequestration site.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2013Date of Patent: November 7, 2017Assignee: THE SOUTHERN COMPANYInventor: Dhansukhbhai V. Patent number: 9808758Abstract: A method for removing ammonia from a gas stream divides the gas steam into a plurality of separate gas streams and sprays a dilute acid solution into the streams. The acid solution is aqueous sulfuric acid and ammonium sulfate is produced. A device is used to divide the gas stream, the device having a plurality of conduits in fluid communication with a plenum. Spray nozzles are located in each conduit to spray the acid solution into the gas streams. The device creates less than 10 Pa back pressure to the gas stream.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2016Date of Patent: November 7, 2017Assignee: Ohio State Innovation FoundationInventors: Lingying Zhao, Lara Jane S. Patent number: 9808761Abstract: Industrial waste derived adsorbents were obtained by pyrolysis of sewage sludge, metal sludge, waste oil sludge and tobacco waste in some combination. The materials were used as media to remove hydrogen sulfide at room temperature in the presence of moisture. The initial and exhausted adsorbents after the breakthrough tests were characterized using sorption of nitrogen, thermal analysis, XRD, ICP, and surface pH measurements. Mixing tobacco and sludges result in a strong synergy enhancing the catalytic properties of adsorbents. During pyrolysis new mineral phases are formed as a result of solid state reaction between the components of the sludges. High temperature of pyrolysis is beneficial for the adsorbents due to the enhanced activation of carbonaceous phase and chemical stabilization of inorganic phase. Samples obtained at low temperature are sensitive to water, which deactivates their catalytic centers.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2016Date of Patent: November 7, 2017Assignee: RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORKInventor: Teresa J.
