Spring support sections having different firmness levels in different mattress support sections can provide a varying support level to a user of the adjustable bed foundation combined with a mattress thereon. Spring support sections that are discrete from each other can permit articulation of the corresponding mattress support surface sections without creating bending, elongation, and/or compression stresses which might otherwise cause uneven support from or damage to a continuous spring support element spanning multiple mattress support surface sections.

Mattress-mounted heating units can be included. The mattress thermal management system can be incorporated into a conventional mattress/bed system or into an adjustable bed system.

Abstract: A method for adjusting pressure within an air bed comprises providing an air bed that includes an air chamber and a pump having a pump housing, selecting a desired pressure setpoint for the air chamber, calculating a pressure target, adjusting pressure within the air chamber until a pressure within the pump housing is substantially equal to the pressure target, determining an actual chamber pressure within the air chamber, and comparing the actual chamber pressure to the desired pressure setpoint to determine an adjustment factor error. The pressure target may be calculated based upon the desired pressure setpoint and a pressure adjustment factor. Furthermore, the pressure adjustment factor may be modified based upon the adjustment factor error determined by comparing the actual chamber pressure to the desired pressure setpoint.

In this manner, the coils and air chambers can move independently but can be made to cooperate to provide firmness control, contouring and/or support of a user thereof. Air pressure within the air chambers can be independently adjusted to manipulate firmness and/or contour properties in specific zones defined by the presence and location of the air chambers, e.g., pressure of the air chambers corresponding to the lumbar region can be adjusted to eliminate high pressure points. Still further, the pressure within the air chambers can be automatically adjusted to different applied loads as a function of movement. A plunger is received within the bottom opening. During use the patient fills the adjustable drinking cup with a liquid and after a predetermined amount of liquid is consumed the plunger is pressed upwards to raise the liquid to a predetermined position near the top opening. This is repeated each time a predetermined amount of liquid is consumed.

The proper combination of type, thickness, size and shape of chromatography paper used allows for the pre-setting of different desired steep times. Chromatography paper becomes translucent when wet and attached colors become visible to indicate the progress and the completion of the desired steep time.

Abstract: A suction head for a vacuum cleaner or the like is described, said suction head comprising: a base plate with a base plate channel open towards a surface to be vacuumed, a suction channel in fluid communication with the base plate channel, main wheels for moving said suction head on the surface to be vacuumed, and a bracket for connecting said main wheels to said base plate, wherein said bracket is connected to said base plate in a rotatable manner so that said base plate is tiltable with respect to the main wheels.
