Abstract: Methods for producing cellulose articles having controlled release of active ingredient include dispersing pulp in aqueous direct solvent for cellulose to form a slurry. Organically modified or ion-exchange-activated phyllosilicate is homogenized in a direct solvent for cellulose with exfoliation by shearing, then mixed with the slurried pulp. A mixture of active ingredient and a lipophilic matrix material or a water-in-oil (“W/O”) emulsion containing active ingredient is stabilized with thickener, converted into a gel-like paste, and mixed with the slurried pulp. Water is stripped from the mixture until all cellulose is dissolved, the mixture is formed into shaped articles, and dried. Exemplary active ingredients include cosmetic active ingredients, fat-soluble vitamins or apolar plant extracts. Domains of active ingredient and matrix material or emulsion containing active ingredient are present as fine divisions within the inventive articles.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are coating compositions that may include at least one urethane (meth)acrylate oligomer having a molecular weight between about 2,000 g/mol and about 50,000 g/mol and at least one cycloaliphatic (meth)acrylate. The coating compositions may also optionally include at least one photo-initiator, adhesion promoter, pigment, dye and/or plasticizer. The coating compositions may be hardened, after application, by curing by exposure to radiant energy, by exposure to electron beam radiation, by exposure to heat, by exposure to chemicals and combinations thereof. Upon hardening, the coating composition typically has two phases, a soft phase which has a Tg between ?50° C. and 0° C. and a hard phase which has a Tg between 60° C. and 120° C. Methods of using the coating compositions are also described.

  • Publication number: 20170333338
Abstract: A composition that achieves sustained oral drug release is provided. The composition includes liposomes, micelles, or polymeric particles, for example, having a hydrophobic core and an amphipathic corona, wherein the core contains a therapeutic, diagnostic, nutraceutical, cosmeceutical or prophylactic agent to be released, and the corona has targeting ligands immobilized to it. In a preferred embodiment the targeting ligands are bisphosphonate molecules, which enable binding to hydroxyapatite present on teeth. The incorporation of short polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains prevents chain entanglement and ionic interactions, minimizes mucus adhesion, increases particle diffusion rates in mucus, and increases the overall stability of particles in saliva. In a preferred embodiment the agent incorporated is a dental bleaching agent and the ligands selectively bind hydroxyapatite.
