Abstract: An articulating member adapted to articulate about multiple axes and method for making same is disclosed. The articulating member may comprise an articulating section that allows for the articulating member to articulate laterally, vertically, or both so that the articulating member may be articulated to fit along the contour of a substrate and be adhered or affixed thereto. The articulating section may be arranged in a corrugated pattern with alternating ridges and furrows. The geometry of the articulating section is such that the stress concentrations along the various surfaces of the articulating member may be reduced when the member is articulated laterally, vertically, or both. The method comprises the steps of providing a die being shaped with geometry that will produce an articulating member, and machining a sheet of material to produce an articulating member.

Abstract: A composite reinforcing bar is formed by providing a reinforcing material supply of fiber strands ravings; a resin supply bath, and a puller for pulling the resin-impregnated reinforcing material through the resin bath. The material is wound on a holder, while the resin remains unset, rotated about its axis on a drive system so that the material is wrapped around a plurality of guides at spaced positions around the axis such that the fed length of the body is wrapped from one bar to the next to form bent portions of the body wrapped partly around each guide and straight portions between the guides. The guide surfaces are shaped by a machining, blasting or similar process to form projections and recesses which retain a roughness on the outside surface of the reinforcing bar during the curing action while supported on the surface. This arrangement can be used with an optional sand coating to prevent the sand particles from being compressed into the resin or body.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods, processes, and systems for the manufacture of three-dimensional articles made of polymers using 3D printing. A layer of prepolymer is deposited on a build plate to form a powder bed. The deposited powder bed is heated to about 50° C. to about 170° C. Then, a solution of activating agent is printed on the powder bed in a predetermined pattern, and a stimulus is applied converting the prepolymer to the final polymer. After a predetermined period of time, sequential layers are printed to provide the three-dimensional article. The three-dimensional object can be cured to produce the three-dimensional article composed of the final polymers.

Abstract: A three-dimensionally printed object includes build portions formed with a build material, first support portions formed with a first support material, and second portions formed with a second support material that is different than the first support material. The first and second support portions are arranged with the build portions such that the build portions are supported and protected during fabrication of the object. The arrangement is optimized to minimize a time period for removing the first and second support materials from the object and releasing the build portions. A method of producing the object includes operating ejectors of a three-dimensional object printer to form the build portion, first support portions, and the second support portions. The portions are formed with reference to the arrangement.
