  • Patent number: 9889864
Abstract: A railway vehicle and a head car cowcatcher thereof are provided. The head car cowcatcher includes a flow guiding plate; a front-end frame mounted at a front end of an inner side surface of the flow guiding plate; and longitudinal sills mounted at two sides of the inner side surface of the flow guiding plate. Two ends of the front-end frame are respectively connected to the longitudinal sills located at the two sides. The rigidity of a connecting part of the longitudinal sills and the front-end frame is smaller than the rigidities of any parts of the longitudinal sills and the front-end frame. When obstructions are cleared or a train collision occurs, the connecting part of the front-end frame and each of the longitudinal sills would be largely deformed if the impact force the cowcatcher bears is beyond the maximum load the cowcatcher can bear.

  • Patent number: 9889873
Abstract: A method of operating a driver assistance system of a motor vehicle for performing an automatic steering intervention involves detecting how firmly a driver is holding a steering wheel, and determining an intensity value i.e. control value dependent on how firmly the driver is holding the steering wheel. The control value is higher when the driver is holding the steering wheel more firmly, and lower when the driver is holding the steering wheel less firmly. The method then applies an automatic steering intervention with an applied intensity that is controlled in accordance with the control value, so that the applied intensity of the automatic steering intervention is higher when the driver is holding the steering wheel more firmly, and lower when the driver is holding the steering wheel less firmly. A steering assistance system includes a memory, a processor, sensors and an automatic steering control system, to implement the method.

  • Patent number: 9889878
Abstract: A method of tuning a calibration table for an electric power steering system includes connecting the electric power steering system to an actuator machine, and communicating a control input from a vehicle simulator to the actuator machine. Input forces and steering angles are applied to the electric power steering system with the actuator machine, based on the control input. The electric power steering system is controlled with a steering controller, to apply a steering setting, i.e., and assistive torque. The steering controller uses the calibration table to define the steering setting, based on the applied input forces and steering angles. A steering torque in the electric power steering system generated in response to the applied steering setting is sensed, and communicated to the vehicle controller, thereby establishing a closed loop, feedback system. The calibration table may then be re-defined based on the sensed steering response for the applied input forces.

  • Patent number: 9889879
Abstract: A steering control device capable of transmitting road surface state to a driver is provided. An ideal vehicle model computes first spring reaction force torque based on a target pinion angle and second spring reaction force torque based on at least lateral acceleration as components of a spring component of a steering assist force. The ideal vehicle model combines the first and second spring reaction force torques with specified proportions of use to compute the spring component. The ideal vehicle model decides the proportions of use of the first and second spring reaction force torques on the basis of a distribution gain set in accordance with the difference value between the first and second spring reaction force torques. The ideal vehicle model increases the proportion of use of the second spring reaction force torque as the difference value between the first and second spring reaction force torques is increased.

  • Patent number: 9889899
Abstract: Disclosed is a safety device designed to alert motor vehicle drivers about the proximity of a bicyclist. The device includes a flexible antenna or rod that readily and preferably mounts in a substantially horizontal orientation to the handlebars of a bicycle. A bright red light or LED at the end of the antenna emits light in a rearward direction and thereby provides a second point of reference to motor vehicle drivers when used in conjunction with a traditional frame-mounted reward facing light. With two points of reference, motor vehicle drivers are able to determine with increased accuracy the proximity of the bicyclist. The antenna is extendable up to about twenty-four to thirty-six inches beyond a lateral edge of a bicycle. The device warns motor vehicle drivers of the proximity of a bicyclist and creates a safety buffer zone for the bicyclist.

Abstract: A front end assembly that simplifies assembling of bicycles includes a threaded center bolt, a stem body, a stem tube, a frame head tube, and a fork steering tube with a wedge immovably fixed therein. The wedge includes a stem interface that complementarily fits with the stem tube to rotationally align the fork, and a bolt interface that engages the center bolt. The steering tube is inserted into the head tube from the bottom, and the stem tube is inserted into the head tube from the top. The center bolt threadably engages the bolt interface of the wedge to secure components together. The position of the wedge within the stem tube vertically aligns the stem body with respect to the fork steering tube. Automated alignment and tensioning eliminates much guesswork, and the assembly process is shortened.

Abstract: A device is temporarily attached to one side of the stern of a boat in order to modify the wake pattern of the boat by effectively making one side of the boat longer than the other side. The delayed wave on the opposite side of the boat from the wake shaping device allows the wave to crest over the natural wave on the side where the device is installed. In one example, the device has a frame with a side surface angled outwardly 12 degrees from the side of the boat, a mounting surface with a platform index notch configured to be positioned over a portion of a boat platform. A wedge shape utilizes water pressure to distribute the load evenly across the fastening side of the device, thereby allowing for a tight fit to the back of the boat.
