Patent number: 9915107Abstract: A vortex-controlled variable flow resistance device ideal for use in a backpressure tool for advancing drill string in extended reach downhole operations. The characteristics of the pressure waves generated by the device are controlled by the growth and decay of vortices in the vortex chamber(s) of a flow path. The flow path is designed to produce alternating primary and secondary vortices—one clockwise and one counter-clockwise—where the primary vortex is stronger and produces higher backpressure than the secondary vortex. This in turn generates alternating weak and strong pressure pulses in the drill string. The weak pulses may be barely perceptible so that the effective frequency of the pulses is determined by the stronger primary vortices.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2016Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: Thru Tubing Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Roger L. Integrated pump and compressor and method of producing multiphase well fluid downhole and at surface
Patent number: 9915134Abstract: An integrated system is disclosed to handle production of multiphase fluid consisting of oil, gas and water. The production stream is first separated into two streams: a liquid dominated stream (GVF<5% for example) and a gas dominated stream (GVF>95% for example). Patent number: 9915137Abstract: A method of fracturing multiple zones within a wellbore formed in a subterranean formation is carried out by forming flow-through passages in two or more zones within the wellbore that are spaced apart from each other along the wellbore. The flow-through passages are arranged into clusters, where the directions of all flow-through passages, which belong to the same cluster, are aligned within a single plane (cluster plane). At least one cluster of flow-through passages is formed in each zone. The clusters within each zone have characteristics different from those of other zones provided by orienting the cluster planes at different angles relative to principal in-situ stresses and by placing them into different locations along the wellbore in each of the two or more zones. A propellant pre-fracturing treatment is then performed in the two or more zones to create initial fractures (pre-fractures) in each of the two or more zones.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2015Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Olga Petrovna Alekseenko, Alexander F. Patent number: 9915138Abstract: A drill bit that includes one or more cutters on a surface thereon configured to penetrate into a formation. The drill bit includes at least one pad at the surface, an actuation device configured to supply a fluid under pressure to the pad to extend the pad from the surface. The drill bit also includes a relief device configured to drain fluid supplied to the pad to reduce the pressure on the at least one pad when the force applied on the at least one pad exceeds a selected limit.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2012Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: BAKER HUGHES, A GE COMPANY, LLCInventors: Thorsten Schwefe, Chad J. Patent number: 9915139Abstract: A method includes performing a directional drilling operation. The method also includes receiving data from one or more sensors, wherein at least one of the one or more sensors output data related to a performance attribute of a downhole component that is from a group consisting of a downhole drilling motor and a rotary steerable tool. The downhole component comprises part of a drill string that is used to perform the directional drilling operation. The performance attribute is selected from a group consisting of rotations per unit of time of the downhole component, operating differential pressure across the downhole component and torque output of the downhole component. The method also includes displaying the data in a graphical and numerical representation on a graphical user interface screen.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2015Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Victor Gawski, John Kenneth Snyder

Patent number: 9915140Abstract: Optical analysis systems, methods, and apparatuses for analyzing fluids may be useful for in situ monitoring fluids that relate to cementing operations. For example, a method may include containing a cement fluid composition in a flow path comprising a wellbore; and optically interacting the cement fluid composition with an integrated computational element, thereby generating an output signal corresponding to a characteristic of the cement fluid composition, the integrated computational element being coupled to a tool.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2015Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Michael T. Patent number: 9915141Abstract: A system and method for installing casing in a blind horizontal well for blind horizontal directional borings. The system and method may include an example of an offset transmitter sonde assembly that contains an open central passage through which well casing can be inserted, and an example of a drill bit assembly that may be remotely uncoupled from a drill string, leaving the bit in the bore created. Remote uncoupling of the drill bit assembly tends to allow a casing to be installed in the bore while the drill string and bit remain in the bore for support during casing installation. After installation of the casing the drill bit assembly may be uncoupled from the drill string, allowing the drill string to be withdrawn from the bore, with the drill bit assembly remaining in the bore.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2014Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Inventors: Michael D. Patent number: 9915142Abstract: A downhole tool having opposing interfaces for incorporation of the downhole tool into a downhole tool string, and a housing extending between the opposing interfaces. An accelerometer is disposed within the housing for detecting acceleration of the downhole tool in response to a mechanical impact generated elsewhere within the downhole tool string. The accelerometer generates an accelerometer signal indicative of the detected acceleration. A strain sensor is disposed within the housing for detecting strain of the downhole tool. The strain sensor generates a strain signal indicative of the detected strain. The downhole tool includes a processor for processing the accelerometer signal utilizing the strain signal.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2017Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: Impact Selector International, LLCInventor: Jason Allen Hradecky

Patent number: 9915143Abstract: A downhole tool may include a tool housing extending along a longitudinal axis and having a circumference which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, the tool housing being adapted to be lowered into the inside of the borehole or borehole casing. The downhole tool may include a longitudinal transducer for transmitting a probing signal longitudinally from an end part of the tool housing into a fluid flowing in said borehole or borehole casing and for receiving a reflected signal reflected from reflective entrained surfaces in the fluid flowing along a longitudinal direction towards the end part of the tool housing. The downhole tool may include a plurality of electrodes arranged spaced apart around the longitudinal axis in the periphery of the downhole tool so that the fluid flows between the electrodes and a borehole wall or borehole casing wall.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2012Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: WELLTEC A/SInventors: Jørgen Hallundbæk, Jimmy Kjærsgaard-Rasmussen

Patent number: 9915144Abstract: A logging tool for use downhole includes sensor modules that monitor fluid flow in a wellbore. The sensor modules are disposed on flexible arms that project radially outward from the logging tool, so that the modules are located at discrete radial positions in the wellbore. The sensor modules include a flow sensor, an optical sensor, and a fluid conductivity sensor. The rate and type of fluid flowing in the wellbore can be estimated due to employing the different sensor types. A location sensor estimates the radial location of the modules so that a flow profile of the flowing fluid can be obtained.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2014Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: Baker Hughes, a GE Company, LLCInventors: Muhammad A.
