Abstract: Disclosed herein is a wireless implantable communication system, method and sensing device, wherein an implantable data conversion module is adapted for operative coupling to a distinct or integrated implantable sensing device for the conversion of a characteristic signal for transmission thereof to an external receiver, e.g. by way of an inductive element. Upon positioning an external inductive element in the vicinity of the implanted device, a corresponding signal is induced within the external element allowing for reconstruction of the converted signal, and thereby allowing for recovery of the characteristic signal. Embodiments for the communication of data across a biological barrier, including communications from an external transmitter to an implanted receiver, an implanted transmitter to an external receiver, and an implanted transmitter/receiver pair are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for activating a circuit of an implant device. Consistent with one implementation, an implant device is provided with a sensor including a working electrode (WE) and a counter electrode (CE). The sensor may be configured to generate a first current at the CE when the implant device is implanted in a body of a subject. A sensing circuit may also be provided that is electrically coupled to the WE of the sensor. The sensing circuit may be activated based on the first current and utilize the sensor to measure one or more parameters of an individual or other subject.

Abstract: A biological signal detection device includes a reference pulse generation unit, a photo-reflector, a reference voltage control unit, a variation amount detection unit, and a biological signal generation unit. The reference pulse generation unit generates a reference pulse train having a variable frequency. The photo-reflector generates a photo-reflector output signal train in response to the reference pulse train. The reference voltage control unit provides a reference voltage. The variation amount detection unit receives the reference voltage and the photo-reflector signal train and generates a variation amount detection signal train. The variation amount detection signal train is provided to the biological signal generation unit to correct the frequency of the reference signal pulse train and to the reference voltage control unit to adjust the reference voltage signal.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) device includes: a light source; a mirror to reflect a light from the light source; a light receiver to output the light from the light source to skin and receive a light reflected from the skin; a detector to detect an interference signal between the light reflected from the mirror and the light received by the light receiver; an image sensor to convert the detected interference signal into an image signal; a processor to output a second signal by filtering a first signal based on the image signal, calculate an error by using the first signal and the second signal, and output an error-compensated image by compensating for the calculated error; and a display to display the error-compensated image. In this configuration, the OCT device may reduce noise caused by the image sensor, to display a skin image with improved quality.

Abstract: A label free single or multi-photon optical spectroscopy for measuring the differences between the levels of fluorophores from tryptophan, collagen, reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH), and flavins exist in brain samples from a of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and in normal (N) brain samples with label-free fluorescence spectroscopy. Relative quantities of these molecules are shown by the spectral profiles of the AD and N brain samples at excitation wavelengths 266 nm, 300 nm, and 400 nm. The emission spectral profile levels of tryptophan and flavin were much higher in AD samples, while collagen emission levels were slightly lower and NADH levels were much lower in AD samples. These results yield a new optical method for detection of biochemical differences in animals and humans for Alzheimer's disease.
