Abstract: A process for simulating correction of human eyeball for better visual acuity includes a processor and coupled memory. The memory stores program for processor to obtain geometric data and a wave-front aberration of human eyeballs and simulate an eyeball model. The eyeball model and an ophthalmic lens model are combined to form a correction system for visual acuity. According to the convex/concave lens imaging rule, and using an object placed in front of the eyeball, a determination is made of an optically uncorrected first image formed at a retina of the eyeball, and a visually-corrected second image formed at the retina of the eyeball. The first object image and the second object image can be output for comparison.

Abstract: Methods for improving gaze tracking are presented. These methods eliminate the need for a separate initial calibration step to determine whether the subject is properly centrally fixated during testing. In one embodiment, whether the subject is centrally fixated is determined by identifying inlier and outlier gaze descriptors; the inliers are assumed to be associated with central fixation. This reduces the total time required for testing. These methods also improve the accuracy of gaze tracking during testing without the need for individual subject calibration. Instead, a database of reference eyes is used. The subject's eye can be compared to the reference eyes, and the mapping function for one or more reference matches can be used to estimate the subject's gaze direction. In another embodiment, previous calibration data from the same subject can be used to determine whether the subject is properly centrally fixated and/or the direction of the subject's gaze.

Abstract: Systems and methods for registering pre-operative medical images, such as computed tomography (“CT”) images, to the coordinate space of an ultrasound treatment system are provided. The registration is generally based on minimizing distances between locations associated with an anatomical feature, as identified from the medical images, and spherical surfaces defined by time-of-flight measurements for ultrasound data acquired from the anatomical feature by transducer elements. The locations associated with the anatomical feature, which may be a skull of the subject, can be points or planar surfaces define on the anatomical feature. The registration methods described here can be useful for aberration correction and targeting using an array of high-frequency ultrasound elements. In combination with cavitation monitoring and control, this ultrasound-based registration of CT images could eliminate the need for MRI during these treatments.

Abstract: An analog front end (AFE) system for substantially eliminating quantization error or noise can combine an input of an integrator circuit in the AFE system with an input of the digital-to-analog converter (DAC) circuit in the feedback loop of the AFE system. By combining the input of the integrator with the input of the DAC circuit in the feedback loop, the in-band quantization noise of the filter can be substantially eliminated, thereby improving measurement accuracy.

Abstract: A system and method is useful for treating amblyopia and other conditions by visual stimulation of the brain. Automatic discrimination between a pair or more of similar body organs, such as the eyes is accomplished for improved safety and efficacy of a treatment. Automatic measurement of a physiological parameter or state in response to a stimulation treatment (responsiveness) over time is also accomplished. Measurements are done over time, within the same treatment session, or between the same treatment session to allow for adapting the visual stimulation used for test and assessment purposes, visual stimulation used for treatment, or a combination of testing and treatment.

Abstract: A system and method for tracking catheter electrode locations with the body of a patient during an MRI scan sequence includes mitigation logic configured to identify one or more impedance measurements that were taken during potentially noise-inducing conditions (i.e., magnet gradients, RF pulses), and were thus subject to corruption by noise. The mitigation logic is configured to replace the potentially corrupt impedance measurements with previously-obtained impedance measurements taken from an immediately preceding acquisition cycle (e.g., from a previous time-slice).

Abstract: An electrophysiology mapping system is provided with modules which can be attached thereto, each module including an item of subcutaneous interventional equipment and information about the item of subcutaneous interventional equipment, including shape information and size information. At least one sensor is placed upon the item of subcutaneous interventional equipment at a known location thereon. This sensor allows for position, and also preferably orientation, of the item within an image presented on a display of the electrophysiology mapping system. The at least one sensor can be at least one electrode or two or more electrodes, with different known positions for the electrode, or electrodes. The at least one sensor can be one or more magnetic field sensors interacting with a magnetic field associated with the electrophysiology mapping system. Transthoracic ultrasound fitted with sensors thereon can also be utilized as a further module attachable to the electrophysiology mapping system.

Abstract: An electrophysiology mapping system utilizes multiple surface electrodes on a body of a patient for visualization of internal bodily structures, and especially cardiac structures. Some such systems can further utilize a magnetic field source adjacent to the patient for internal bodily structure visualization. In place of an intra-cardiac electrode or other intra-cardiac sensor, an echo probe is utilized external to the body. The electrode or other sensor on the echo probe is spaced a known distance from a sound wave detector, such as a piezoelectric crystal which also generates sound waves, the sensor assisting in correlating echo probe sensed patient structural data with patient structural data otherwise gathered by the EP mapping system. This data is integrated together for visualization on the EP mapping display without requiring an intra-cardiac electrode or other intra-cardiac sensor.

Abstract: A medical evaluation system includes an I/O module, a processing module, and an analysis module. The I/O module receives sensory data obtained by a motion sensor disposed in a mobile device carried by a patient at least when the patient is in a non-clinical environment. The processing module extracts medically relevant data from the sensory data received from the sensor in the mobile device. The relevant data includes one or more features of interest in the sensory data. The analysis module derives one or more surrogate biomarkers from the relevant data. The surrogate biomarkers represent at least one of a state or a progression of a medical condition of the patient. The mobile device may be a mobile phone carried by the patient and the sensor may include at least one of an accelerometer or a gyroscope that generates the sensory data to represent movements of the patient.

Abstract: A method for distinguishing blinking events and instrument gazes on the basis of an eye-opening width. The eye-opening width represents an instantaneously detected clearance between the eyelids of an eye. In a step of ascertaining, a blinking event is ascertained using at least one blinking limit value. The blinking event is ascertained when an opening width value, which represents the eye-opening width, is smaller than the blinking limit value. In a step of determining, an instrument gaze is determined using a maximum blinking duration. The instrument gaze is determined when the detected blinking event is detected as lasting longer than the maximum blinking duration. The steps of the method are able to be carried out anew when the opening width value is greater than an open limit value following the determination of the instrument gaze.
