Abstract: Described here are devices, systems, and methods for moving and/or supporting an internal organ or other tissue, such as during minimally-invasive surgery. Generally, a system for moving and/or supporting tissue may comprise a magnetic control component and a retractor having at least one magnetic portion. The retractor may have a first low-profile configuration for passing through an incision into a surgical site within a patient and a second expansive configuration for engaging tissue. The magnetic control component may be placed over the surgical site external to the patient and generate a magnetic field to manipulate the retractor and engaged tissue.

Abstract: In a method and an apparatus to provide updated images during a robotically-implemented surgical procedure, 3D data is obtained of a volume of a patient, which includes anatomy involved in the procedure. The anatomy is segmented from a reconstructed image of the volume. During the procedure, the surgeon applies forces on the anatomy, causing a geometric change of the anatomy. Force sensors in the surgical robot detect these forces, which are supplied to a processor that controls display of the segmented anatomy at a display screen. From the applied forces and the physical properties of the anatomy, the processor calculates the geometric change of the anatomy that has occurred and modifies the appearance and/or position of the displayed segmented anatomy on the display screen in real time during the procedure, so as to visualize the geometric change.

Abstract: The present application discloses a body support device for surgery with a dynamic support for the torso. This device stimulates the adoption of a more natural posture and provides the dissipation of the load placed on the bone and muscle structures in the spinal column through the combination of the torso support (1) to the posterior support (13). The posterior support (13) consists of the systematization of the human vertebral column, comprising a set of segments (13?) chained and aligned by the passage of an elastic medium (14) therein, controlled by the user's action. Thus, this technology allows for minimizing surgeon's physical fatigue resulting from a prolonged posture in surgery.

Abstract: A dental mirror permits the mirror face to be flipped from a first angle to a second angle relative to the handle, while the tool is still in the patient's mouth. Mirror and handle connect at a pivot point that is spaced away from the handle's distal end. The neck of the mirror has a detent nub that mates with recesses in the neck of the handle for positioning and holding the mirror in place relative to the handle. The mirror can be shifted from one position to another by pushing or pulling the mirror against the patient's cheek while the mirror is still in the patient's mouth, as the nub slides from one recess to another. In one embodiment the mirror is flipped from a position 145 degrees relative to the handle to 90 degrees relative to the handle. Stops are incorporated to limit angular travel at either position.

Abstract: Described is a catheter for being retained inside the body for extended periods, and a catheter mating device that can connect to the catheter to move the catheter inside of the body or remove it from the body. The catheter mating device has a stem with an apparatus at its distal end. The apparatus is moveable between a first position and a second position. When in its first position, the distal end is configured to fit in the proximal end of the catheter. When in its second position, the distal end engages the proximal end of the catheter and connects the catheter mating device to the catheter.

Abstract: The disclosure relates generally to an extended use systems and devices for management of bladder function for people with urinary dysfunction. The system includes a catheter which can include a sensor that can determine bladder condition and a valve that can control fluid flow. The catheter can be placed inside the bladder using devices that facilitate insertion and extraction. The placement of the catheter can be done by a trained individual such as a patient, as well as a clinician, a nurse, or a caretaker. Once placed inside the bladder, the catheter can be fully-internal, meaning no portion of the catheter is visible from outside of the patient's body.

Abstract: A filter with translating hooks is described. The filter can include strut members having first and second struts connected by a connecting portion. A translating hook is disposed adjacent the connecting portion of the strut members, the hook including a first elongate member attached at one end to the first strut and a second elongate member attached at one end to a second strut, the opposite ends of the elongate members connected together to define a tip. The translating hooks are configured to bend toward a central axis of the filter when the filter is in a collapsed configuration for delivery to a blood vessel and recovery from a blood vessel, and away from the central axis of the filter when the filter is in an expanded configuration within a blood vessel such that the hooks engage a vessel wall.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an intravascular stent for being implanted into blood vessels and a method for manufacturing the same. The intravascular stent is woven by at least one weaving wire, and the stent is in a tubular structure. The at least one wire has an even number of free ends, and the free ends of the at least one wire are aligned and jointed together with each other, which have cutting portions. The cutting portions of the two free ends that are aligned and jointed with each other match each other to make the two free ends be engaged into a joint portion with a diameter identical to that of the wire. The intravascular stent has seamless connection, and the distribution of radial force and axial force of the free ends is uniform, leading to convenience for laser welding. Moreover, the intravascular stent has great flexibility, excellent operability and perfect appearance.
