Abstract: Protective gear for protecting an arm or other body part of a wearer, such as a lacrosse, hockey, baseball, or other sports player, or an occupational worker, is provided. The gear can be in the form of an arm guard including a forearm guard, a biceps guard and a sleeve. The sleeve can be joined with the forearm guard and an upper end of the biceps guard, with a lower end of the biceps guard being free from attachment to the sleeve to facilitate radioulnar rotation of the forearm guard and thus the forearm of the wearer. The arm guard can include a low profile elbow cap that is integral with the forearm guard, and generally free floating within and joined with the forearm guard, rather than being a separate component from the forearm guard.

Abstract: A composite fabric is disclosed in which an information beacon is embedded within the composite fabric to assist with loss prevention, anti-counterfeiting, locating lost individuals or the like. In embodiments, layers of fabric may be joined using adhesive, stitching, quilted stitching, riveting, or other means to securely house an information beacon. In embodiments of the invention, an information beacon may be encased in a housing that provides resistance to environmental factors such as moisture and temperature and allows the fabric to be washed in a conventional laundry cycle. In embodiment, Bluetooth Low Energy device that utilizes a smartphone and mobile application software to provide the location of the beacon. In alternate embodiments, RFID or other technology may be used. The composite fabric of the present invention has myriad uses and may be used to fabricate articles such as clothing, handbags, wallets, shoes, and so forth.

Abstract: A wearable metal detection system. The system includes a glove including a metal detection circuit disposed therein including a power supply, a first speaker, and a wireless transceiver each operably connected to a sensor configured to detect the presence of metal. The system further includes an earpiece including a power supply, a wireless transceiver, and a second speaker. A switch disposed on the glove allows a user to select between the first and second speakers. When the first speaker is selected, the first speaker emits an audible alert upon the sensor detecting metal. When the second speaker is selected, a detection signal is transmitted to the earpiece when the sensor detects a metallic object, and the second speaker then emits an audible alert. The glove may further include an inner lining, an outer layer, and a puncture-proof layer for protecting the wearer from puncture wounds while searching for metallic objects.

Abstract: A necktie holder for securing, around the neck of a wearer, an article of clothing having first and second ends includes: a central portion defining a channel that passes through the necktie holder, the central portion having first and second sides; and first and second wings extending, respectively, from the first and second sides of the central portion. The first and second wings each are arranged with respect to the central portion so that the necktie holder formed by the central portion and the first and second wings is the shape of a knot of a necktie. The channel is configured to permit the first and second ends of the article of clothing to slideably, snugly, and adjustably interact with the channel, whereby the necktie holder can be drawn upwardly over the first and second ends of the article of clothing toward the neck of the wearer.

The cinching tool is a generally flat, substantially two-dimensional and geometrically shaped to accommodate wear underneath clothing, and has a generally rigid perimeter, a generally flexible interior portion having a hole in its center. The hole is adapted to accept cloth pulled therethrough and then hold it tightly until removed by hand.

Abstract: Protective gear such as a helmet includes multiple shell layers connected using one or more shear protection devices. The shear protection devices have a general V-shaped configuration with one vertex point and two endpoints. Elastic bands connect the vertex with each endpoint. The vertex is secured to the inner surface of the outer shell layer and the two endpoints are attached to the outer surface of a middle shell layer. The devices flex downward or contracts when there is an impact on the helmet, such as a direct, rotational, or shear force. The device is able to absorb energy from the impact by flexing and allowing movement of the outer shell layer relative to the middle shell layer.

Abstract: Impact-dissipating liners, helmets having an impact-dissipating liner, and methods of fabricating impact-dissipating liners are provided. The liners include a fluid impermeable enclosure having cavities with sidewalls and a fluid contained in the enclosure. The enclosure may have a central portion and lobes extending from the central portion, wherein the central portion and the lobes are adapted to conform to the shape of an internal surface of a helmet. The helmets may include bodies positioned within the cavities of the liner, where, under impact loading, contact between the bodies and the liner absorbs at least some of the energy of the impact loading. Aspects of the invention are particularly adapted for use for head protection, such as, helmets; however, aspects of the invention are also adaptable to provide impact-dissipation for any body or surface that would benefit from such protection.

Abstract: A composite multi-axial impact protection liner for a helmet is provided that reduces rotational acceleration, rotational strain rate, and rotational strain that cause concussions. In a protective helmet so equipped, one or more layers of fluid polymer, including strain thinning and strain thickening polymers, are positioned between the wearer's head and a hard helmet shell. The liner offers greater injury protection, performance, and personal comfort using the rate dependent and combined effect of strain thinning and strain thickening of fluid polymer layers.

Abstract: A modular helmet is described herein. The module helmet includes an inner shell adapted to be positioned onto a user's head and an outer shell coupled to the inner shell. The outer shell is spaced a distance radially outward from the inner shell to define a climatic zone between the inner shell and the outer shell. A cooling assembly is positioned within the climatic zone between the inner shell and the outer shell. The cooling assembly includes a plurality of cooling packets that are coupled to the outer shell.

Abstract: Software for designing, configuring, and manufacturing a smart, biomechanically aware helmet is described. The software has numerous modules. One module creates instructions on designing and configuring a baseline helmet where number of shell layers, air vents, sensors, lining layer, and other features are provided. Another module is used for creating instructions on the number of energy and impact transformer layers and the mechanical and non-mechanical means used in each to absorb energy from mechanical impacts to the helmet. These dampers can include ball bearings, elastic devices, conical structures, liquids, gels, foams, and other structures that function in the transformer layers which are between the hard shell layers.

A fastener comprises a first fastener segment and a second fastener segment, the first fastener segment joined to the second end of the first attachment member and the second fastener segment joined to the second end of the second attachment member. The first attachment member is manipulable to engage with the second attachment member at their respective said fastener segments, thereby connecting said left shoe and said right shoe.

Abstract: An apparatus for a Dual Toe Anchor Footwear is disclosed. The apparatus includes a sole, a first strap and a second strap. The first strap includes a first end and a second end. The first end of the first strap is coupled to the sole at a position between a great toe and a second toe of a user's foot when the user's foot is positioned on the sole. The second strap also includes a first end and a second end. The first end of the second strap is coupled to the sole at a position between a second toe and a third toe of a user's foot when the user's foot is positioned on the sole. Abstract: Joining a bottom unit, such as an athletic shoe sole, with an upper is achieved with an over molding process. A midsole core may be formed with a direct attach to an underfoot portion of the upper. The forming of the midsole core may be achieved with open cast molding or injection molding, for example. A shell may encapsulate the midsole core and also mechanically engage with the upper to further join the bottom unit with the upper. The shell and the midsole core may be formed from an elastomeric polymer such as polyurethane, thermoplastic polyurethane, ethyl-vinyl acetate, and/or silicone-based materials.

Abstract: A multi-purpose device that can function as both a storage pouch for coins, or other material, and a personal defense weapon. The device includes a pouch that is connected to a handle by at least one flexible member. The device can be folded along the flexible member and securely stored around the belt of a user by connecting the pouch to the handle. The user can quickly disconnect the handle from the pouch and remove the device from their belt. In its open configuration, the user can either (i) access the pouch to store or remove material by opening the zipper closure; or (ii) use the device as a self-defense weapon by gripping the device at the handle and using the movement of their arm or wrist to project the weighted pouch at a person or object.

Abstract: A luggage tracking and surveillance system uses a zipper pull attached to a conventional suitcase closure zipper and a retaining fastener attached to conventional fastening straps securing contents inside the suitcase. An observer is not aware of the specially designed zipper pull and retaining fastener because they mimic the appearance of their conventional counterparts. The external zipper pull communicates wirelessly with the retaining fastener inside the suitcase when a zipper pull touch sensor senses that the suitcase has been opened. This awakens a retainer fastener power supply and activates a recording system in the fastener to create a record of the person who opened the suitcase. The retaining fastener can also sense the presence of a human and independently activate the recording system. Recorded still pictures, video, and audio, along with location information supplied by GPS circuitry in the zipper pull and/or retaining fastener, are transmitted to a remote database.
