When used with a whipstock and anchor, the running tool can be dovetailed to the whipstock ramp to allow transmission of torque and downward force on the whipstock when positioning. The running tool is then released and a passage is opened for cementing. Release of the running tool results from shifting the ball seat that supports the collet.
