Abstract: A silicon ingot has opposite ends. A specific resistance, measured along an axis between the opposite ends of the silicon ingot, has at least one point of inflection where a concavity of the specific resistance changes along the axis. According to another embodiment, a silicon ingot has a first ingot part and a second ingot part between opposite ends of the silicon ingot. The first ingot part has a different specific resistance than the second ingot part. In a region of the silicon ingot between the first and second ingot parts, the specific resistance has at least one point of inflection where a concavity of the specific resistance changes.

Abstract: In the present invention, in producing a SiC single crystal in accordance with a solution method, a crucible containing SiC as a main component and having an oxygen content of 100 ppm or less is used as the crucible to be used as a container for a Si—C solution. In another embodiment, a sintered body containing SiC as a main component and having an oxygen content of 100 ppm or less is placed in the crucible to be used as a container for a Si—C solution. SiC, which is the main component of these, serves as a source for Si and C and allows Si and C to elute into the Si—C solution by heating. Since the oxygen content of SiC is 100 ppm or less, generation of gas in the Si—C solution is suppressed.

Abstract: A compressible liquid retaining berm having a plurality of linear wall members and right angle corner members composed of a compressible, resilient material such that the wall members and corner members will rebound to a neutral state after being compressed. A longitudinal slot is disposed in the top wall of the wall members and the corner members, with the corner member longitudinal slots communicating with a recess positioned in the corner member. A liquid impermeable liner member is disposed on the interior side of the wall members and corner members, the liner member extending across the wall members and corner members. The liner member is secured to the wall members and corner members by positioning elongated anchor members atop the liner member in alignment with the longitudinal slots, such that the weight of the anchor members results in the anchor members being received within the longitudinal slots.
