  • Publication number: 20180250529
Abstract: Radiotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for cancer and its success depends critically on accurate targeting and delivery of the correct radiation dose. Accurate dosimetry is therefore essential to maintain and improve patient survival rates. However, size and long wait times currently limit water and graphite based calorimeters to standards laboratories leaving field-based dosimetry to ionization chamber measurements which depend upon a reference field-specified calibration factor. It would therefore be beneficial to provide radiotherapy equipment operators a direct approach of clinical reference dosimetry wherein the dosimeter provides increased independence on dose, dose rate, radiation energy, and energy type, etc. It would be further beneficial for such novel clinical dosimeters to be compact, function as secondary standards used routinely for measurements and allow radiotherapy doses to be measured directly and in an absolute manner.

Abstract: A facemask assembly can include airflow vents that can be configured to direct inward airflow to strike an interior air filter. In some embodiments airflow strikes the air filter at an oblique angle. In some embodiments, the filter insert assembly is pleated. In some embodiments, the air filter contains biocidal elements. Some internal filter designs enhance the capture of exhaled moisture which activates silver ions in the filter material creating a biocidal environment. Some facemasks have a filter permanently sealed internally with a filter material than can withstand boiling and autoclaving temperatures so the entire mask system—without disassembly—become sterilisable. Some facemasks have snap-in zones that can accommodate a wide variety of strap(s), and can accommodate a single, continuous band. This band can be tension adjusted by adding twists and then being snapped back into the snap-in zones.

Abstract: Roughly described, a computer system uses a behavior-driven algorithm that is better able to find optimum solutions to a problem by balancing the use of fitness and novelty measures in evolutionary optimization. In competition among candidate individuals, a domination estimate between a pair of individuals is determined by both their fitness estimate difference and their behavior difference relative to one another. An increase in the fitness estimate difference of one individual of the pair over the other increases the domination estimate of the first individual. An increase in the behavior distance between the pair of individuals decreases the domination estimate of both of the individuals. Individuals with a higher domination estimate are more likely to survive competitions among the candidate individuals.

Abstract: Golf clubs and golf club heads having a weight member that is configurable in multiple positions to alter the performance characteristics of the golf club head are presented. In some examples, the weight member may be arranged in a sole of the golf club head and may include ends having different weighting characteristics. For instance, one end may be heavier or denser than another end of the weight member. The difference in weight characteristics may be due to different materials used to form the different ends, different construction of the ends, and the like. The position of the weight member may be adjusted to alter the performance characteristics of the golf club head. For instance, the weight member may be removed and rotated to position a heavier end where a lighter end was previously positioned.

Abstract: A composite ball bat comprising a handle, a tapered portion extending from an attachment end of the handle, and a barrel portion extending from the tapered portion to an end-cap end. The barrel portion includes an inner surface and an outer surface, with a uniform thickness between the inner and outer surfaces. The barrel portion also includes a preferred impact area. At least one increased-thickness section is molded and cured integrally with the barrel portion. That composite material forming the barrel portion and at least one increased-thickness section is therefore uniform. At least one of the increased-thickness sections is positioned at or near the preferred impact area, and each increased-thickness section has a thickness greater than the uniform thickness.

Abstract: An improved golf club grip 10a, 10b, 10c with a well-defined and pronounced reminder rib 20a, 20b, 20c includes in one embodiment of the present disclosure a groove 32 positioned in the exterior surface 34 on each side of or surrounding a ridge 24a that extends lengthwise inside the body 14a of the grip 10a. When the golf grip 10a is installed on a golf club shaft 12, the groove 32 facilitates the flexing of the grip material for forming the reminder rib 20a. In another embodiment of the present disclosure, the grip 10b, 10c is provided with a raised portion 36 of a selected material in a select region on the grip 10b, 10c. When the golf grip 10b, 10c is installed on a golf club shaft 12, the raised portion 36 becomes the reminder rib 20b, 20c.
