Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for driving a plunger in a drug reservoir. In some embodiments, a variable friction element interconnects between a pushing shaft and a wall of the reservoir. For example, rotation of a driving element in a first direction relative to the pushing shaft may advance the pushing shaft in the reservoir. The friction element may have increased friction resistance to rotation of the pushing shaft in the first direction in comparison to frictional resistance to advancing the pushing shaft. Abstract: The present invention provides a kit comprising a unibody auscultation interface for use with mechanical ventilation or intubation, formed from a single contiguous nonmetallic piece, the piece being shaped into a cylindrical member having opposing ends respectively adapted to frictionally connect to the external end of an endotracheal tube and either the stem of a Y piece or the patient end of a common conduit, the cylindrical member having an opening in its wall, the perimeter of which seamlessly elaborates a flared turret whose roof is adapted for non-adherent contact with the chest piece of a stethoscope; and, packaging moans for enclosing the auscultation interface aseptically. The present invention additionally provides an endotracheal tube, Y piece, breathing circuit and mechanical ventilation system incorporating the auscultation interface.

  • Patent number: 10086166
Abstract: A gas flow valve assembly. The assembly includes a cylindrical housing and a resiliently-biased valve supported substantially centrally within the housing. In the default or “off” condition, the resilient bias causes the valve to be seated on a valve seat shutting off axial flow of gas through the valve housing. When the patient breathes, negative pressure is applied to one side of the valve effective to sufficiently overcome the resilient bias imposed on the valve to move the valve off the valve seat axially (or otherwise open in another direction) within the housing, thereby allowing flow of gas through both the valve seat and the valve housing, and into the breathing circuit connected thereto. When the patient's breathing pauses and begins to exhale, the valve bias returns the valve to its default or off condition shutting off flow of gas through the valve.

  • Patent number: 10086167
Abstract: A deflectable catheter including an outer member having a proximal portion and a distal portion, an elongated column member extending distally from the outer member and an inner member positioned coaxial with the outer member and attached to the column member. The inner member extends distally of the outer member and has a distal tip portion. A reinforcement member is positioned over the column member to restrict axial movement of the column member such that when one of the inner member or outer member is moved with respect to the other, axial compression of the column member is restricted by the reinforcement member causing the distal tip portion of the inner member to deflect laterally.

Abstract: An external catheter stabilizer device for stabilizing and retaining a catheter tube at a stoma includes a base portion and a central portion. The base portion is configured to be affixed at a patient so as to generally surround a stoma. The central portion has a passageway therethrough that is configured to receive a tube that passes through the stoma. The base portion is attached to the central portion via at least two spaced apart spokes. A catheter tube retaining element is disposed radially outboard of the passageway and is configured to receive and retain a portion of the catheter tube therein. When the base portion is affixed at a patient, the central portion is spaced away from the patient. The device may include features that provide both stabilization and selectable modes of operation, such as a free-flow mode and a no-flow mode.

  • Patent number: 10086169
Abstract: Improved methods for percutaneously creating, entering and/or dilating an opening in the wall of a blood vessel or other anatomic structure. The improvement comprises deploying a guide element having a proximal segment and a distal segment, the diameter of said distal segment being greater than the diameter of said proximal segment at their juncture, and which at said juncture forms an abrupt circumferential step comprising a proximally-facing surface. Said proximally-facing surface abuts the catheter's tip and shields said tip, thereby facilitating passage of said catheter as it enters and passes through said opening in said wall of a blood vessel or other anatomic structure.

Abstract: A catheter insertion device includes a housing, a needle, a catheter, and a guide wire. The needle has a proximal end positioned in the housing and a distal end extending beyond a distal end of the housing. The catheter is positioned coaxially over the needle, and includes a flexible tube and a catheter hub on a proximal end of the flexible tube. A proximal portion of the flexible tube and the catheter hub are positioned in the housing. The guide wire has a proximal end positioned in the housing and a distal end positioned in a lumen of the needle. The catheter insertion device also includes a handle coupled to the catheter, wherein movement of the handle relative to the housing moves the catheter hub from a position in the housing to a position outside of the housing.
