Publication number: 20180317766Abstract: A computer-readable medium includes computer-executable instructions that cause a processing unit of a user device to instruct a user to stand a predetermined distance from the user device, acquire an image of the user, and determine a user interpupillary distance based on the acquired image. The user interpupillary distance indicates a distance between the user's pupils in terms of pixels. The computer-executable instructions further cause the processing unit to determine a current distance between the user and the user device based on the user interpupillary distance, a predetermined interpupillary distance, a width of the acquired image in terms of pixels, and a field of view of the camera. Additionally, the computer-executable instructions cause the processing unit to display the current distance between the user and the user device on a display and display an eye chart when the determined current distance is equal to the predetermined distance.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2018Publication date: November 8, 2018Applicant: SIMPLE CONTACTS, INC.Inventors: Joseph Predham, David Quigley, Nicholas Ficano, Joel Wishkovsky

Publication number: 20180317767Abstract: Examples of devices and method for quantifying opacities in an eye are shown. Examples include analysis of still images or video images. In one example a cross section area of opacities within a visual axis are quantified. Opacities in the vitreous of an eye, such as “floaters” can vary in severity from little or no reduction in vision, to bothersome, to high reduction in visual function. It is desirable to be able to quantify a level of severity of visual obstruction within a patient's eye and proceed with a level of treatment to match the condition.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2018Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventor: Edwin Ryan

Publication number: 20180317768Abstract: Glaucoma is the second most common cause of blindness in the global world. It is a multifactorial disease with several risk factors, of which intraocular pressure (IOP) is the most important. IOP measurements are used for glaucoma diagnosis and patient monitoring. IOP has wide diurnal fluctuation, and is dependent on body posture, so the occasional measurements done by the eye care expert in clinic can be misleading. We provide an implantable sensor, based on microfluidic principles, which in one example has 1 mmHg limit of detection, high sensitivity and excellent reproducibility. This sensor has an optical interface, which enables IOP to be read with, for example, a cell phone camera. The design, fabrication, along with the option of self-monitoring are promising steps toward better patient care and treatment for this devastating disease.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 10, 2018Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventors: Yosef Mandel, Ismail Emre Araci, Stephen R. Publication number: 20180317808Abstract: In respiratory monitoring, a breathing cycle detector (44) detects a breath interval in airway pressure and/or flow data. A respiratory parameters estimator and validator (30) asynchronously fits the airway pressure and airway flow data to an equation of motion of the lungs relating airway pressure and airway flow to generate asynchronously estimated respiratory parameters for the breath interval, using a sliding time window that is not synchronized with the breath interval. The asynchronously estimated respiratory parameters for the breath interval are validated using at least one physiological plausibility criterion defined with respect to the breath interval. Responsive to failure of the validation, the airway pressure and airway flow data are synchronously fitted to the equation of motion of the lungs to generate synchronously estimated respiratory parameters for the breath interval. The synchronous fitting is performed in a time window aligned with the breath interval.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2016Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventors: DONG WANG, FRANCESCO VICARIO, ANTONIO ALBANESE, NIKOLAOS KARAMOLEGKOS, NICOLAS WADIH CHBAT, LIMEI CHENG

Publication number: 20180317811Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for determining a stroke during sleep capable of determining whether or not a stroke occurs during sleep of a user (a patient). Accuracy of determination for whether or not the stroke occurs is improved by applying a sleeping position (SP) filter (a processing process of deleting a measurement result when a user is not lying with his/her breast facing upward) and then comparing a ratio between left and right motions to determine whether or not the stroke occurs.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2016Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventors: Yang Soo LEE, Yong Won KIM

Publication number: 20180317812Abstract: A heart rate detection method and an apparatus, where the method is applied to an electronic device, and the electronic device includes a heart rate sensor. The method includes detecting, by the electronic device, a current motion status of a user carrying the electronic device, determining, based on a prestored correspondence between a motion status, a startup period, and a sampling rate, a startup period and a sampling rate corresponding to the current motion status, where the startup period is a period in which the heart rate sensor is started to detect a heart rate of the user carrying the electronic device, and the sampling rate is a sampling rate of collecting heart rate data by the heart rate sensor, and starting the heart rate sensor at regular intervals based on the startup period to collect heart rate data at the sampling rate.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2016Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventors: Huaiyong Wang, Tao Yi, Xiangyang Wang, Guangze Zhu, Kui Zhang

Publication number: 20180317813Abstract: Technologies for a monitoring system for monitoring a user's movement include a sensor module and a monitoring device. The sensor module is attached to the user or wearable by the user. The monitoring device detects the sensor module positioned in proximity to the monitoring device, receives sensor data from the detected sensor module, analyzes the received sensor data to determine a position and an orientation of the detected sensor module relative to the monitoring device, compares the determined positions of the detected sensor module to predefined planned positions, and initiates an alert notification in response to a determination that a difference between the determined positions of the detected sensor module and the predefined positions is greater than a reference threshold.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2018Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventors: Mark T. Publication number: 20180317814Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate generally to biosensing garments, and in particular, to systems and methods for monitoring respiration in a biosensing garment, whereby an improved integration of the respiration monitoring circuit into the garment is achieved, resulting in improved signal quality and durability. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes an elongate member having a longitudinal axis and configured to be stretchable along its longitudinal axis. The elongate member includes a plurality of elastic members (e.g., a first elastic member, a second elastic member, and a third elastic member) that extend along the longitudinal axis. A conductive member is coupled to the first, second and third members, and forms a “curved” pattern along the longitudinal axis of the elongate member. The conductive member is configured to change from a first configuration to a second configuration as the elongate member stretches along its longitudinal axis.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2018Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventor: Maria Elina NURKKA
