Abstract: A method for passive optical motion detection uses an optical sensor arrangement comprising an optical sensor having at least one signal channel. The optical sensor arrangement is initialized for repeated signal acquisition and an initial frame comprising a tuple of sensor data is collected from the at least one signal channel. The initial frame is set as a previous frame. A loop of motion detection is entered and the following steps are repeated. First, a current frame comprising another tuple of sensor data is collected from the at least one signal channel. Then, a motion parameter is computed from a motion metric depending on the current and previous frames. The so computed motion parameter is compared with a threshold value. A motion event parameter is set depending on the comparison of the motion parameter with the threshold value. The current frame is set as previous frame so that the loop can start all over again.

Abstract: This application relates to techniques that adjust the sleep states of a computing device based on user proximity detection procedures. The technique includes detecting a first pattern, using a first subset of sensors of one or more sensors coupled to the computing device, to determine if the object is proximate to the computing device. Provided the first pattern is not indicative of the object being proximate to the computing device, the technique detects a second pattern, using a second subset of sensors of the one or more sensors, to determine if the object is proximate to the computing device. Furthermore, provided either the first pattern or the second pattern is indicative of the object being proximate to the computing device and provided a first portion of a computer system within the computing device is operating within a low-power sleep state, the technique causes the first portion to enter into a high-power sleep state.

Abstract: This application relates to techniques that adjust the sleep states of a computing device based on proximity detection and predicted user activity. Proximity detection procedures can be used to determine a proximity between the computing device and a remote computing device coupled to the user. Based on these proximity detection procedures, the computing device can either correspondingly increase or decrease the amount power supplied to the various components during either a low-power sleep state or a high-power sleep state. Additionally, historical user activity data gathered on the computing device can be used to predict when the user will likely use the computing device. Based on the gathered historical user activity, deep sleep signals and light sleep signals can be issued at a time when the computing device is placed within a sleep state which can cause it to enter either a low-power sleep state or a high-power sleep state.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a power management method to improve a power-on effect of a multinode system. In the power management method provided in the present disclosure, after a power management module delivers a power-on instruction to each node in the multi-node system, a PCH of each node loads a BIOS from a local flash to perform a power-on process. Compared with the prior art in which a PCH of a master node is responsible for loading BIOSs of all nodes in a multi-node system, the method provided in the present disclosure can reduce burden on the PCH of the master node, and accelerate a power-on speed of the system, so that a better power-on effect is achieved. The present disclosure further provides a related multi-node system.

Abstract: Processors may include cache circuitry that is a significant source of power consumption. A cache is going to be placed into a lower power mode. Based at least in part on this anticipated transition, the contents of the cache data lines are copied into persistent storage. While the cache is in the lower power mode, the tag circuitry is kept operational. When an access request is made to the cache, a relatively fast lookup of the tag in the tag array can be made. The location where the associated cache line is stored in the persistent storage may be determined from the tag data. Upon a tag hit, the system is able to find the contents of the requested cache line in the persistent storage without returning the storage array of the cache to a fully operational state.

Abstract: Network hardware of a computing device receives a network packet over a network to which the network hardware is connected. The network hardware determines that the network packet includes a power-cycling command. The network hardware, in response to determining that the network packet includes the power-cycling command, triggers a physical line between the network hardware and a power supply of the computing device. The power supply is connected to a power source and currently provides power from the power source to the computing device. In response to the network hardware triggering the physical line, the power supply interrupts providing the power to the computing device for a length of time to cause the computing device to restart and cold reboot.

Abstract: A method from managing power state transitions in a computing system is disclosed. A processor may initiate a change in power state from a first initial power state to a first new power state and, in response to initiating the change, send an initial notification to a system integrated circuit using a first communication channel, and deactivate the first communication based on responses to the initial notification. The processor may enter the first new power state in response to the deactivation of the first communication channel, and send a final notification to a management controller using a second communication channel. The management controller may send a message to the system integrated circuit upon receiving the final notification. The system integrated circuit may then transition from a second initial power state to a second new power state based on the message.

Abstract: A touch-enabled device can simulate one or more features in a touch area. Features may include, but are not limited to, changes in texture and/or simulation of boundaries, obstacles, or other discontinuities in the touch surface that can be perceived through use of an object in contact with the surface. Systems include a sensor configured to detect a touch in a touch area when an object contacts a touch surface, an actuator, and one or more processors. The processor can determine a position of the touch using the sensor and select a haptic effect to generate based at least in part on the position, the haptic effect selected to simulate the presence of a feature at or near the determined position. Some features are simulated by varying the coefficient of friction of the touch surface.
